Аннотация: Spectral brightness coefficients are correlated with indices of vertical attenuation of horizontal irradiance, water transparency, phytoplankton chlorophyll content, and phytoplankton distribution. Data were obtained from Krasnoyarsk Reservoir and the Dnieper reservoirs. When diatoms and pyrrhophytes predominate, the maximum spectral brightness is in the vicinity of 580 nm, but when blue-green algae predominate the maxima are in the vicinity of 550 and 720 nm. -from Authors

Аннотация: Using experimental microecosystems the kinetics of phenol disappearance in river and reservoir water were investigated. In river water the disappearance kinetics could be described by A first-order equation, the same kinetics took place in reservoir water before and after the period of ''bloom'' of blue-green algae. During the ''bloom'', the phenol seemed to be mineralized by bacteria which grew at the expense of another compound, and the model of best fit was the model of exponential growth and low concentration of the test substrate. In the river, two sections differed according to the difference between the mean values of the specific disappearance rates. In the reservoir these rates were lower than those in the river. In general the specific disappearance rate values did not correlate with the values of initial bacterioplankton density, the concentrations of inorganic nutrients nor the chemical oxygen demand. Conclusions about the integral influence of ecosystems on the disappearance rates and dependence of self-purification kinetics on the type of aquatic ecosystem were made.

Аннотация: The notion of ecological biophysics as a scientific discipline investigating physical processes and phenomena caused by functioning of the living super-organism systems is formulated. The three main constituents of the ecological biophysics are defined: elaboration of the monitoring methods of the basis of sensing of the biophysical fields (of bioluminescence and fluorescence), mathematical and physical modeling and investigation of the part of living organisms in the hydrophysical processes of the ecosystem scale. Examples of realization of the ecological biophysical approach in the process of investigations of the World Ocean, Lake Baikal, the reservoirs of Dnieper and Yenisei revers are given.

Аннотация: The results of measurements of primary optical characteristics, underwater irradiance, water transparency by a white disk, concentrations of Chl "a," and water temperature in the Krasnoyarskoe Reservoir are presented. It is shown that the change of phytoplankton concentration has a significant effect on the vector of spatial distribution of optical characteristics. The comparison of the euphotic layer depths, determined by primary optical characteristics, as well as measurements of underwater irradiance and transparency are carried out. Аннотация: Using experimental microecosystems the kinetics of phenol disappearance in small forest pond waters (Siberia, Russia) in the summer of 1995-96 were investigated. Despite of high variability of components of the ecosystem (plankton biomass and species composition) and two pronounced 'blooms' of green algae Volvox aureus the same kinetics of the disappearance took place over the investigated period. Half-lives of the pollutant depended on water temperature only. A comparison of the self-purification of the pond with that of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir, 'blooming' with blue-greens was carried out. Half-lives in the pond were significantly lower than that in the reservoir. During the periods of 'blooms' of the green algae in the pond the concentrations of inorganic nutrients were comparatively high and the phenol-degrading bacteria likely were not limited by these nutrients, in contrast to the periods of 'bloom' of the blue-green algae in the reservoir.

Аннотация: Using 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses we investigated the bacterial diversity of winter bacterioplankton of two eutrophic Siberian reservoirs. These reservoirs show similarity in phytoplankton community composition in spring and autumn but tend to differ in summer in exhibiting cyanobacterial bloom. Forty-eight unique partial 16S RNA gene sequences retrieved from two libraries were mostly affiliated with the class Actinobacteria, ? subdivision of the class Proteobacteria, and the phylum Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroides. The clone library of the pond exhibiting summer cyanobacterial bloom showed more diversity in sequence composition. A significant number of bacterial 16S rRNA gene clones were closely related to freshwater bacteria previously found in different aquatic ecosystems. This finding confirms the assumption that some bacterial clades are globally distributed.

Аннотация: Growth and potential photosynthetic activity of phytoplankton passed through intestine of crucian carp (Carassius auratus) from a small Siberian reservoir were compared with those of phytoplankton taken the directly from the reservoir. The dominant phytoplankton species in the reservoir, Microcystis aeruginosa, showed a significant increase of growth after the passage. Subdominant Planktothrix agardhii also showed an increase in growth rate, while subdominants Anabaena flos-aquae and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae were not stimulated by the gut passage.

Аннотация: A new method of estimating non-predatory mortality of Zooplankton based on live/dead sorting and sediment trap measurement is described. Preliminary results on Daphnia cucullata and Daphnia longispina are given. Estimations of average non-predatory mortality demonstrated a significant contribution of this kind of mortality to total mortality.

Аннотация: We studied non-consumptive (non-predatory) mortality of Daphnia and Cyclops vicinus during four sampling seasons. Mortality estimations were based on live/dead sorting using special staining and measurements of sedimentation rates for dead individuals, depended on wind speed. Original equations were used for calculations. The estimated specific non-consumptive mortality never had biologically senseless negative values, which were often obtained on the basis of the other ways of mortality estimations, and was in a good agreement with other components of population dynamics. As found, the non-consumptive mortality was the important, often the determinant component of the zooplankton population dynamics.

Аннотация: We studied fatty acid (FA) composition in samples from bodies and intestinal contents of the littoral amphipod Gammarus lacustris Sars, from the Bugach freshwater reservoir. Simultaneously, samples of seston and bottom sediments were also collected from the reservoir during early August. There were no differences in FA composition of gut contents, seston and sediments of pebbly bottom. Seston was the main food source of Gammarus but some FAs Gammarus got from sediments. The FA composition of G. lacustris and seston from the Bugach freshwater reservoir were compared with those of the animals from the saltwater Lake Shira (Siberia). While FA composition of the two Gammarus populations differed significantly, those of seston were practically similar: the composition of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, 20:5omega3, 22:6omega3 and 20:4omega6, were significantly higher in animals from saline Shira Lake, whereas 16:1 and 16:0 were higher in the freshwater populations of amphipods from the Bugach freshwater reservoir. Taking into account the relevant literature data, we hypothesise that this difference in C16 acid might be a distinguishing characteristic of FA composition of freshwater and saltwater crustaceans.
