Аннотация: Using experimental microecosystems the kinetics of phenol disappearance in river and reservoir water were investigated. In river water the disappearance kinetics could be described by A first-order equation, the same kinetics took place in reservoir water before and after the period of ''bloom'' of blue-green algae. During the ''bloom'', the phenol seemed to be mineralized by bacteria which grew at the expense of another compound, and the model of best fit was the model of exponential growth and low concentration of the test substrate. In the river, two sections differed according to the difference between the mean values of the specific disappearance rates. In the reservoir these rates were lower than those in the river. In general the specific disappearance rate values did not correlate with the values of initial bacterioplankton density, the concentrations of inorganic nutrients nor the chemical oxygen demand. Conclusions about the integral influence of ecosystems on the disappearance rates and dependence of self-purification kinetics on the type of aquatic ecosystem were made.

Аннотация: Artificial, closed ecosystems are potentially useful tools with which to explore ecosystem interactions, allowing investigations of the biology, physiology and biophysics of complex communities. They can also be used to evaluate the long-term effects of environmental constituents that are usually present at very low concentrations. The introduction of humans into such systems extends their usefulness even further, allowing the study of the influence of the environment on people, and the effects of people on the environment. Because of the great potential of such systems in adding to human knowledge, and their considerable expense, it is appropriate that such activities be international studies. The Institute of Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Siberian Branch) has established, The International Research Center for Closed Ecosystems (Biospherics). It is located in Central Siberia near Krasnoyarsk on the Yenissei river, and is open to all interested investigators. В© Copyright 1994 Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc.

Bioluminescence -- Effluent -- Luminous bacteria biotest -- Toxicity -- Water quality
Аннотация: Waters of the Yenisei River, certain rivers and lakes of the Altai Territory, and effluents of some industrial factories in Krasnoyarsk were studied by luminous bacteria biotest Microbiosensor B17 677F. The lyophilized luminous bacteria Photobacterium phosphoreum from the IBSO collection were used to design this biotest. The bioluminescent test is based on bioluminescence quenching resulting from the action of water samples on luminous bacteria. The test results indicated locations and zones of impaired water quality. The heaviest pollution of water in the Yenisei River was recorded in the zones 0-116 km downstream from Krasnoyarsk (Krasnoyarsk and satellite towns). The effluents of most factories were found to be toxic. Underground and surface waters of some areas of the Altai Territory had different toxicity levels; there were deviations from the norm in most water samples taken from the different lakes and rivers. The data from this study show that the luminous bacteria biotest is simple and convenient, and that the results obtained are within acceptable levels of accuracy for the evaluation of the toxicity of effluent and river water. It takes no more than 30 min to do the biotest. It can be used in ecological monitoring like the Microtox toxicity test. В© 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Аннотация: The bacterial bioluminescence has high sensitivity to the action of various inhibitors of biological activity. The lyophilized luminous bacteria Photobacterium phosphoreum (Microbiosensor B17 677F) and luminous strain Escherichia coli (Microbiosensor EC) from the Culture Collection IBSO were used to create bioluminescent biotests. They have been applied in ecological monitoring to determine the overall toxicity of the Yenisei and Angara Rivers and some water sources of Altai Territory. As a rule the heaviest pollution of water in studied rivers was registered near cities and settlements. The luminous bacteria biotests are simple and convenient in work, standardized and quantitative, have rapid response to actions of different substances and high sensitivity to environmental pollutants. It takes less than 30 min to do the biotest (the other biotests take 48-96 h). Copyright В© 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

    Radioactive contamination of populated areas of the Krasnoyarsk krai in the region of location of the Mining-Chemical Combine [Text] / A. Y. Bolsunovskii [et al.] // Radiochemistry. - 1999. - Vol. 41, Is. 6. - P604-609. - Cited References: 6 . - 6. - ISSN 1066-3622

Аннотация: Radionuclide content in soil samples collected from populated areas of the Krasnoyarsk krai in the region of location of the Mining-Chemical Combine (MCC), RF Ministry of Nuclear Power Engineering (Minatom), Zheleznogorsk, is determined. The samples were analyzed in the State Sanitary Epidemiological Inspection Center of the Krasnoyarsk krai (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) and analytical and Radiochemical Laboratory (Spiez, Switzerland). In the soil samples collected from the areas that are not subject to the impact of MCC (due to contaminated water discharge and airborne effluents) the maximal content of the most radiologically significant technogenic radionuclide Cs-137 was found to be 45 Bq/kg, which does not exceed the global level: In flood land it amounts to 631 Bq/kg, and the absolutely maximal content (6507 Bq/kg) was found in the samples collected at a depth of 50-80 cm from the Gorodskoi Isl. near the Yeniseisk town. The Pu-239,Pu-240 content in top horizons of soil outside the MCC impact zone ranges from 0.2 to 0.6 Bq/kg. In the flood areas of populated localities at the Yenisei River the Pu-239,Pu-240 content increases to 3.2 Bq/kg in top horizons and more significantly in deeper horizons. The maximal Pu-239,Pu-240 content (8-10 and 10.6-28.9 Bq/kg determined by the Russian and Swiss Researchers, respectively) is found in the samples collected from Yeniseisk at a depth of 50-80 cm. These results suggest that Pu is supplied from MCC to the flood areas of populated localities with the river water. An increased Pu-239,Pu-240 content was also found in soil samples collected from the free-fall areas of the Atamanovo and Bol'shoi Balchug settlements located near the MCC sanitary zone.

hot particles -- Yenisei river -- plutonium complex -- caesium and plutonium isotopes -- dating of particles
Аннотация: Some high-activity hot particles (HP) were found in the flood plain of the Yenisei River, near the Krasnoyarsk Mining-and-Chemical Combine (MCC). and their radionuclide compositions were determined. The ratios of plutonium and caesium isotopes in the particles are indicative of their reactor origin. The Cs-137 activity of the particles amounts to 29,200 kBq/particle, which is higher than the corresponding activities of the fuel particles that formed as a result of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP, All the particles have been divided into two major groups according to the Cs-137/Cs-134 ratio: in the first group, the Cs-137/Cs-134 ratio is more than or equal to 3000, and in the second the Cs-137/Cs-134 ratio is less than or equal to 1000. The particles of the first and the second groups were preliminarily estimated to be formed 30 and 20 years ago, which suggests that there must have been at least two accidents at the MCC reactors, with part of the fuel released into the Yenisei River. Аннотация: During three field seasons (June-September) of 1997-99 contents of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Al, Cr, Ni, Cd, and Pb were determined in compartments of ecosystem (surrounding soils, bottom sediments, water, zoobenthos, macrophytes, and fish) of a fish and recreation pond situated at the edge of Krasnoyarsk City (Siberia, Russia). Contents of most parts of metals in soils, water, and macrophytes significantly correlated with each other. As concluded, their contents were determined by natural, general, geochemical peculiarities of the region. Heavy metals, contents of which were higher than federal upper limits of concentration, were revealed. In muscles of fish with different feeding spectra-crucian and perch-concentrations of some metals differed significantly; correlation graphs for metals also had different structures. Comparison of our data with those on diverse aquatic ecosystems of Siberia, Europe, North America, and China published in the last decade was carried out. It was concluded that a distribution of heavy metals in the compartments of an aquatic ecosystem presently have to be determined for each particular water body until general regularities are discovered.

Аннотация: The experiments in which phosphorus radionuclide was added to samples of algobacterial community of the Yenisei River taken near the production area of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (Zheleznogorsk) made possible determining the uptake rates and coefficients of radionuclide accumulation by microorganisms. Radios between processes of adsorption and accumulation of phosphorus radionuclide by components of water seston (suspended matter) have been determined. The portion of the specific radioactivity of phosphorus adsorbed by unit mass of seston (and algae) has been found to be not more than 7% of the activity accumulated by algal cells.

Аннотация: The aim of the paper is to investigate accumulation of artificial radionuclides by the Yenisei river aquatic plants collected in the area affected by the activity of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (Zheleznogorsk) from 1997 to 2000. The samples of aquatic plants were of four species: Potamogeton lucens, Fontinalis antipyretica, Elodea canadensis, and Ceratophyllum demersum. The gamma-spectrometric analysis of the samples of aquatic plants for artificial radionuclides revealed a wide spectrum of radionuclides. Radionuclides of activation origin were found in the aquatic plants taken both near the Combine and 200 km down of it. The radiochemical analysis of aquatic plants revealed strontium and plutonium isotopes. Among the aquatic plants, the highest concentration factors for the principal radionuclides were recorded in Fontinalis antipyretica (water moss).

Аннотация: A one-dimensional mathematical model of the Yenisei river ecosystem including hydrological, ecosystem and radioecologicl blocks has been developed. The model was used to evaluate contribution of different processes (transfer by water masses, dilution, radioactive decay, bioaccumulation) into self-purification of the river water from a radiation pollution. The pollution density of ecosystem components (bacteria, phyto-, zooplankton, phyto-, zoobenthos, detritus) with 137Cs and 32P is calculated.

Аннотация: Using 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses we investigated the bacterial diversity of winter bacterioplankton of two eutrophic Siberian reservoirs. These reservoirs show similarity in phytoplankton community composition in spring and autumn but tend to differ in summer in exhibiting cyanobacterial bloom. Forty-eight unique partial 16S RNA gene sequences retrieved from two libraries were mostly affiliated with the class Actinobacteria, beta subdivision of the class Proteobacteria, and the phylum Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroides The clone library of the pond exhibiting summer cyanobacterial bloom showed more diversity in sequence composition. A significant number of bacterial 16S rRNA gene clones were closely related to freshwater bacteria previously found in different aquatic ecosystems. This finding confirms the assumption that some bacterial clades are globally distributed.
