Arctic -- Fresh waters -- Rotifers -- Cladocerans -- Copepods -- Zooplankton -- Meiobenthos -- Species list
Аннотация: We present the presence/absence species list (Table 1) of rotifer, cladoceran, and copepod (Calanoida, Harpacticoida, and Cyclopoida) fauna from seven Arctic regions of Russia (the Kola Peninsula, the Pechora River Delta, the Bolshezemelskaya tundra, the Polar Ural, the Putorana Plateau, the Lena River Delta, and the Indigirka River Basin) based on our own and literature data. Our own records were obtained by analyzing samples of zooplankton, meiobenthos, and two cores of bottom sediments (from the Kola Peninsula and the Bolshezemelskaya tundra lakes) that we collected once in July or August in 1992, 1995-2017. To supplement the list, we used relevant literature with periods of research from the 1960s to the 2010s. The list is almost identical to "Dataset 2: Zooplankton and Meiofauna across Arctic Regions of Russia", which was analyzed but not published in [1]. The detailed analysis of this list revealed the specific composition of the aquatic fauna associated with the climatic and geographical factors [1]. The data provide information on the current state of biodiversity and species richness in Arctic fresh waters and can serve as the basis for monitoring these environments and predicting how they are likely to change in the future. Аннотация: Laboratory experiments were conducted in a hermetically sealed growth chamber with two soil samples obtained from the arctic tundra zone with different levels of moisture. Samples were maintained at a growing season typical of the region from which they were taken, and for the sample with a high level of moisture it was made twice: with the temperature in accord with natural conditions and one increased by 2 degrees C. It has been shown that heating of the overmoistened tundra soil by 2 degrees C can increased the average carbon dioxide emissions by almost two times (from 75 to 100-150 mg m(-2) h(-1)). Upon the application of heat, no significant increase in methane emission was observed.

Аннотация: For the identification of ecologically significant dominant groups of phytoplanktonic algae a polychromatic DCMU-induced fluorescence method is recommended. A special fluorometer equipped with a system of replaceable filters is used to differentiate three regions of the spectrum (410 +/- 20, 510 +/- 20 and 540 +/- 10 nm) that can excite the basic light-harvesting pigments. Total and differential (for every algal taxon studied) chlorophyll a calculated from the fluorescence signals is in good agreement with biomass estimates from direct cell counts for several different trophic types of aquatic systems. This is made possible by the vizualization of the ratios of fluorescence signal values in their own coordinates: first, to decide whether it is necessary to correct linear equations in order to eliminate negative solutions; second, to determine the possibility of nulling the negative solution if a point is situated close to a side of the triangle; and third, to reduce the number of linear algebraic equations to two if the points are situated along one of the triangle sides or to one if the points are gathered at the apex. The polychromatic DCMU-induced fluorescence method can be used for monitoring natural phytoplankton populations to detect changes in their taxonomic structure.
