Аннотация: The results of experimental studies of optical power limiting (OPL) and nonlinear light scattering (NLS) at a wavelength of 532 nm in suspensions of detonation-synthesis modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) with different grain-size compositions are described. It is found that, at the same nanoparticle concentration, OPL and NLS are more efficient in suspensions with large MNDs. It is shown that MND suspensions can exhibit a stable long-term operation as OPL in a field of laser pulses with a power density of 0.2 GW/cm(2) at a repetition frequency of 1 Hz.

Аннотация: We report on the optical limiting (OL) in stable aqueous suspensions of detonation nanodiamond (ND) clusters with average size of 50, 110, and 320 nm. The nanosecond Z-scan measurements at wavelength of 532 nm revealed that the larger the cluster size, the better the OL performance and the higher the ray stability of the ND suspension. Our analysis showed that the nonlinear scattering and the nonlinear absorption are the dominant mechanisms of OL in aqueous ND suspensions. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: We report on the polarization dependence of the optical limiting and nonlinear light scattering in nanodiamond clusters suspended in distilled water. The nanosecond Z-scan measurements at a wavelength of 532 nm reveal that the nonlinear transmittance of the suspension is independent of polarization, while the energy of the light pulses scattered at 90 deg shows a cosine-like dependence on the polarization azimuth of the incident beam. Moreover, the ratio of the energies of the vertically and horizontally polarized scattered pulses is a nonmonotonous function of the input fluence. The obtained results can be explained in terms of the change of scattering center size under the laser action and are in agreement with the predictions of the Rayleigh-Mie scattering theory. Аннотация: Surface of detonation nanodiamonds was functionalized for the covalent attachment of immunoglobulin, and simultaneously bovine serum albumin and Rabbit Anti-Mouse Antibody. The nanodiamond-IgG(I125) and RAM-nanodiamond-BSA(I125) complexes are stable in blood serum and the immobilized proteins retain their biological activity. It was shown that the RAM-nanodiamond-BSA(I125) complex is able to bind to the target antigen immobilized on the Sepharose 6B matrix through antibody-antigen interaction. The idea can be extended to use nanodiamonds as carriers for delivery of bioactive substances (i.e., drugs) to various targets in vivo.

Аннотация: The distribution in mice of intravenously injected modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) obtained by detonation synthesis was studied using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometry. It has been shown that 2.5 h after MND injection into the tail vein of mice, the nanoparticles accumulate mainly in the lungs and liver of animals; much smaller amounts of nanoparticles were found in the kidneys and heart. The presence of MNDs in the samples of blood, spleen, brain, and thigh muscles of mice was not detected within the sensitivity of the method used.

Аннотация: This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of using detonation nanodiamonds (DNDs) for detecting phenol in aqueous medium. The study has shown that the catalytic effect of DNDs in the oxidative azo coupling reaction (phenol-4-aminoantipyrine-hydrogen peroxide) is produced by trace amounts of iron and copper ions adsorbed on the surface of nanoparticles. The effectiveness of DNDs as a catalyst is determined by the amounts of these adsorbates and can be enhanced by a factor of two by additional adsorption of these ions onto the nanoparticles. A rise in the temperature of the ONO-catalyzed azo coupling reaction leads to a considerable (4.5-fold) increase in the reaction product yield. DNDs used to detect phenol in aqueous medium enable a linear increase in the yield of the product of the azo coupling reaction at concentrations of the analyte of between 0.05 and 10 mu g/mlThe study demonstrates that DNDs can be reused to detect phenol in water samples.
