Аннотация: The effect of laser irradiation on the properties of the surface of films prepared from a bioresorbable polymer poly(hydroxybuturate) has been studied. To determine the spectral region of the polymer optimal for the effective action of radiation on electron molecular bonds, theoretical investigations have been performed, which have shown that, for modifying the surface of PHB scaffolds, it is expedient to use a vacuum laser at a wavelength of 160 nm. Using laser irradiation at a power from 3 to 30 W, a series of films with modified surface, from roughnesses to perforations, have been obtained. The microstructure and properties of the film surface depending on the mode of irradiation have been examined, and conditions have been found under which the contact marginal angles of film wetting with water can be decreased to 50В° (compared with 76-80В° in starting products). Thus, conditions of laser treatment of PHB scaffolds have been theoretically substantiated and experimentally realized that provide a beneficial effect on the properties of the surface without destroying the structure of the material. Аннотация: The ability of marine luminescent bacteria to synthesize polyesters of hydroxycarboxylic acids (polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHA) as reserve macromolecules was studied. Twenty strains from the collection of the luminescent bacteria CCIBSO (WDCM839) of the Institute of Biophysics, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, assigned to different taxa (Photobacterium leiognathi, Ph. phosphoreum, Vibrio harveyi, and V. fischeri) were analyzed. The most productive strains were identified, and the conditions ensuring high polymer yields in batch culture (40-70% of the cell dry mass weight) were determined. The capacity for synthesizing two-and three-component polymers containing hydroxybutyric acid as the main monomer and hydroxyvaleric and hydroxyhexanoic acids was revealed in Ph. leiognathi and V. harveyi strains. The results allow luminescent microorganisms to be regarded as new producers of multicomponent polyhydroxyalkanoates. В© 2008 MAIK Nauka.

Аннотация: The properties of new five-component poly(hydroxyalkanoates) (PHA) formed by short-and medium-chain monomers synthesized by the bacterium Wautersia eutropha B5786 were studied by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, and viscometry. The degree of crystallinity of PHA decreased from 72 to 57% as the molar fraction of hydroxyhexanoate increased from 2.5 to 18.0 mol%. The melting temperature (T m) and decomposition temperature (T d) of the multicomponent PHA are lower than those for poly(hydroxybutyrate), whose T m and T d are 168-170 and 260-265В°C, respectively. Both parameters of the multicomponent PHA decrease to 156 and 252В°C, respectively, as the hydroxyhexanoate mole fraction is raised. The effect of hydroxyhexanoate on the physicochemical properties of the PHA is similar to that of hydroxyvalerate observed previously. В© 2007 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: A series of two-component polyhydroxyalkanoates composed of hydroxybutyrate-hydroxyvalerate copolymers with different monomer ratio was obtained with the use of bacteria Ralstonia eutropha B5786. The properties of the polyhydroxyalkanoates in comparison with the homopolymer of hydroxybutyric acid were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, and viscometry. The ratio of crystalline to amorphous phase in the copolymers tends to unity with increasing hydroxyvalerate content. This is accompanied by a decrease in the degree of crystallinity of the copolymers from 70-80 to 45-50%, the dependence is virtually linear within the range, of hydroxyvalerate mole fraction from several to 25-30 mol%. Thermal characteristics, melting temperature (Tm) and decomposition temperature (Td), of the polyhydroxyalkanoate copolymers are lower than those for polyhydroxybutyrate, whose Tm and Td are 168-170 and 260-265В°C, respectively. Both parameters decrease to 150-160 and 200-220В°C, respectively, when the hydroxyvalerate mole fraction is raised. Аннотация: In luciferase isolated from luminescing bacteria Vibrio harveyi the authors have studied the dynamics of the luminescence with aliphatic aldehydes C10, C12 and C14 taken in pairs in the reaction with photoreduced flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and in the conjugated system NAD В· H: :FMN-oxidoreductase-luciferase. The kinetic characteristics of endogenous aldehyde have been determined. It is shown that the process of switching of luciferase from one aldehyde substrate to another is dependent on chain length and the order of introducing the aldehydes into the reaction mixture. Analysis of the "matrix of successive perturbations" gave a numerical matrix of the probabilities of oxidation of the aldehydes in the luminescent reaction. An order of preference of the aldehydes on their binding to luciferase is constructed. В© 1989.

Аннотация: The method of atom-atom potentials has been used to study the glutamyl dipeptide in ionized (glu-) and non-ionized (glu) states. A calculation has been made with a computer of the conformational maps and the statistical sums of glu and glu-. It was found that on transition of glu > glu- fall in the energy exceeds the free energy of initiation of the helix with an increased probability of the helical state of the molecule of glu-. From this it is concluded that glu- may in certain conditions be the embryo of the helix on self-organization of protein. В© 1975.

Аннотация: To preserve and utilize the biosphere it is imperative that we understand the long-term dynamics of the primary production process on our planet. Variability of chlorophyll concentration in the ocean is one of the most important components of this process. However, size and access make its investigation labour-intensive. Dependence of primary production on high variability of hydrophysical phenomena in the ocean (fluctuations of currents, frontal zones, etc.) makes it difficult to locate points to measure chlorophyll concentration dynamics. To locate such quasistationary zones with respect to seasonal dynamics of chlorophyll concentration by satellite data the Institute of Biophysics (Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch) has developed a geoinformation system. Its use made it possible to locate such zones over the entire ocean. The work shows zones on the Central and Northern Atlantic. They form the ground to analyse perennial dynamics of chlorophyll concentration. The quasistationary zones are proposed for systematic monitoring of phytopigment concentration by space-borne and marine craft.

Аннотация: Variability of chlorophyll concentration in the ocean is one of the most important components of the primary production process on the planet. To preserve the biosphere and to make appropriate use of it, it is imperative to have a deep insight into the long-term dynamics of the primary production on the planet. To investigate the dynamics of chlorophyll concentration based on satellite data, the Institute of Biophysics (Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch) has developed a geoinformation system. It was used to detect the areas in the global ocean that are quasistationary in relation to seasonal dynamics of chlorophyll concentration. Areas such as these, found in the Indian Ocean, are described in this work. These areas form the basis for the analysis of long-term dynamics of chlorophyll concentration. In these quasistationary zones systematic monitoring of phytopigment concentration is conducted by space-borne and marine craft. The work presents long-term satellite-based data on the space distribution of anomalous deviations of chlorophyll concentration in the ocean. An anomaly criterion is proposed and maps of Pacific Ocean areas with a high probability of anomalies are presented. В© 2004 Taylor and Francis Ltd.

Аннотация: The temporal characteristics of the slow phase of chlorophyll fluorescence induction-T0. 5 (half-decay time) and tmin (an integral-based index of the variable emission rate)-as well as the popular amplitude index FP/FS were determined at different excitation light intensities (Iex [400-500 nm] of 20-80 W/m2) in dark-adapted leaves of different age (3-24 days) taken from radish plants grown under continuous light of 100 W/m2 PAR. All the profiles thus obtained were mutually consistent, and the age-related variations were minimized at Iex > 40 W/m2; at that the age-averaged temporal indices proved to be more light-responsive than the standard amplitude ratio.
