Artificial radionuclides in fish fauna of the Yenisei River in the vicinity of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (Siberia, Russia) / T. Zotina, E. Trofimova, A. Bolsunovsky // Radioprotection. - 2011. - Vol. 46, Is. 6 SUPPL. - S75-S78, DOI 10.1051/radiopro/20116649s . - ISSN 0033-8451
Аннотация: Activities of radionuclides were measured in five species of fish (grayling, dace, crucian carp, pike, cod) sampled in the Yenisei River (Siberia, Russia) in the vicinity of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (ROSATOM) from 2007 to 2010, with a gamma-spectrometer (Canberra, USA). The analyses of samples of organs and tissues of fish species revealed artificial (46Sc, 51Cr, 54Mn, 58,60Co, 59Fe, 65Zn, 85Sr, 99Mo, 103,106Ru, 137Cs, 141,144Ce) and natural (7Be, 40K) radionuclides in fish organs and tissues, including edible ones. The major percent (up to 80%) of 137Cs and 40K activity occurred in muscles of fish species, which also contained considerable percentages of 60Co (up to 70%) and 65Zn (up to 20%). Seasonal changes in the intake of artificial radionuclides by zoobenthos-feeding fish species (grayling and dace) were recorded and they were followed by an activity concentration increase in internal organs. The dramatic increase in radionuclide intake by grayling coincided with the change of diet source. Hence, the feeding behavior of fish can change the fluxes of artificial radionuclides in the Yenisei River. The most effective diet transfer of a radionuclide from gammarus to grayling (muscles and total body) was recorded for 40K (1.3) and much less effective for artificial nuclides. Аннотация: Frozen samples of common fish species, sea trout (Salmo trutta), from Norway and Siberia, herring (Clupea harengus pallasi), rock sole (Lepidopsetta bilineata) and cod (Gadus morhua maris-albi), collected from a wholesale market in Krasnoyarsk city (Siberia, Russia) were analyzed. Special attention was paid to long-chain essential polyunsaturated fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic, 20:5?3 (EPA) and docosahexaenoic, 22:6?3 (DHA). Heat-treatment (cooking and frying) did not in general significantly decrease the contents of EPA and DHA compared to raw fish species, except for a modest reduction in Norwegian trout during frying. Boiled trout appeared to be a more valuable fish dish for obtaining the officially recommended appropriate daily intake of EPA + DHA for humans. Herring and sole had intermediate values, while boiled cod had a comparatively low value. В© 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Docosahexaenoic fatty acid -- Sprecher pathway -- Fish diet -- Furan fatty -- acids -- Aquaculture
Аннотация: Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids of n-3 family (n-3 LC PUFAs) are physiologically essential compounds required for normal growth and development of animals, including humans. The ability of fish species to synthesize n-3 LC PUFAs varies significantly across different trophic levels. We have studied fatty acid (FA) content (mg/g of wet weight) and level (% of total FAs) in the brain, liver, heart, intestine, female and male gonads, muscle, and adipose tissues of commercially important wild freshwater Baikal grayling. Additionally, FA content and level of Baikal grayling juveniles have been studied. In all tissues of Baikal grayling, some LC PUFAs, namely, 24:5n-3 and 24:6n-3 (C24 PUFAs), have been found. These FAs are the intermediate products in the synthesis of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3) by the Sprecher pathway. The levels of C24 PUFAs in tissues differed significantly: the highest levels of C24 PUFAs were found in adipose tissue and the lowest values in the gonads of females, liver, brain, and head of juveniles. According to the dynamics of DHA and C24 PUFAs, the maximum rate of DHA synthesis is achieved in brain of Baikal grayling, while the lowest rate of DHA synthesis probably occurs in adipose tissue. Although all studied tissues had differences in the number of FAs and their levels, 16:0, 18:1n-9, 16:1n-7, 20:5n-3, and DHA dominated. Male gonads contained an extremely high level of furan FAs - presumably beneficial substances for human health. Additionally, the nutritional value of the tissues of Baikal grayling as a source of n-3 LC PUFAs for humans has been estimated.

Аннотация: The results of a hydrochemical analysis of the consequences of an accidental fuel release in the Norilsk-Pyasino water system are presented. The pollution of watercourses in the catchment of Lake Pyasino (a nameless (Nadezhdinsky) creek, the Daldykan River, and the Ambarnaya River) with oil products, phenols, easily oxidizable and hard to oxidize organic matter (COD, PO, and BOD5), suspended solids, inorganic salts, and heavy metals at concentrations exceeding the background levels and MPC for fishery water bodies, as well as a temperature rise in waters of the nameless creek near Norilsk Heat and Power Plant 3 (CHPP-3), have been revealed. The contamination of the surface water decreases downstream in ascending order: nameless creek-Daldykan River-Ambarnaya River. The occurrence of oil products, phenols, and organic substances in the surface waters 2 months after the fuel spill is obviously due to their diffusion from the river bottom sediments, which accumulated a considerable quantity of heavy fractions of diesel fuel after the accident. Increased concentrations of Ca, Cu, Zn, Mn, Co, and Ni in the waters of the studied tributaries of Lake Pyasino are not directly related to the accident; they result from the general technogenic pollution of the territory and the increased geochemical background for these elements. Water contamination with oil products and phenols in the studied areas of Lake Pyasino (its central and northern parts) and the Pyasino River has not been detected. However, Pb concentrations exceed the MPC and Cd is recorded in the water, which is probably due to pollutants that accumulated in previous years.
