    Thermoinduction of chlorophyll fluorescence and the age-related condition of higher plant leaves / T. V. Nesterenko, V. N. Shikhov, A. A. Tikhomiro // Russian Journal of Plant Physiology. - 2001. - Vol. 48, Is. 2. - P244-251, DOI 10.1023/A:1009016520582 . - ISSN 1021-4437

Development -- Leaf -- Thermoinduction of chlorophyll fluorescence -- Cucumis -- Cucumis sativus -- Embryophyta -- Lycopersicon esculentum -- Sativum -- Triticum aestivum
Аннотация: The age-related changes in the temperature dependence curves (TDC) of chlorophyll fluorescence were studied in leaf segments of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.), and cucumber (Cucumis sativum L.) plants grown under controlled photoculture conditions. Three major TDC patterns of chlorophyll fluorescence were identified within the temperature range of 25-70В°C, with each of the patterns corresponding to a certain phase of leaf development. The transition from one type of thermogram to another was a gradual and ordered process. The magnitude of the low-temperature TDC peak increased until leaves completely expanded and declined with leaf senescence. In the course of leaf senescence, the thermograms exhibited an additional shoulder, which further changed into a peak at 55-65В°C with increasing magnitude. Our data provide the basis for assessing leaf age from the type of chlorophyll fluorescence thermogram and the changes in the particular indices characteristic of TDC of chlorophyll fluorescence.

The levels of organization of the photosynthetic apparatus and the control of production processes in phytocenoses under artificial-light culture / A. A. Tikhomirov, G. M. Artificial-light culture -- Photosynthetic apparatus -- Phytocenosis -- Productivity -- Embryophyta
Аннотация: The processes limiting the production in higher plant phytocenoses under an artificial-light culture are analyzed in relation to the multilevel organization of the photosynthetic apparatus (PA). The authors consider the feasibility of overcoming these limitations by optimizing the physical parameters of irradiation (the structure of the light spectrum, the rate, and the ratio of radiation fluxes in photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and infrared (IR) regions) at the molecular, leaf, plant, and cenotic levels of PA organization. To illustrate this approach, the authors used a complex experiment in an artificial ecosystem to evaluate the efficiency of the light control of production processes in multispecies phytocenoses by alleviating or removing the factors that limit plant production at the various levels of PA organization. An artificial-light culture is seen as an instrument for solving several problems of theoretical and applied plant physiology and related disciplines in the future.

Аннотация: The study assesses the usability of the method of organic waste mineralization in the hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution under application of an alternating current electric field in closed life support systems (CLSS). The effects of the mineralized organic wastes on the higher plant component of the CLSS intended for space flights were studied experimentally. Radish plants, representing the higher plant compartment of the CLSS, were chosen for their high sensitivity to the pollution of the gaseous environment. The study showed that plant productivity remained comparable to that of control plants in the experiments with gaseous and liquid products of mineralization of human wastes and inedible plant parts used both separately and simultaneously. Results of the study suggest that this method is eco-friendly and suitable for use in the CLSS. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.
