Аннотация: It was recently reported that radioactive fallout due to the Fukushima Nuclear Accident was detected in environmental samples collected in the USA and Greece, which are very far away from Japan. In April-May 2011, fallout radionuclides ( 134Cs, 137Cs, 131I) released in the Fukushima Nuclear Accident were detected in environmental samples at the city of Krasnoyarsk (Russia), situated in the center of Asia. Similar maximum levels of 131I and 137Cs/ 134Cs and 131I/ 137Cs ratios in water samples collected in Russia and Greece suggest the high-velocity movement of the radioactive contamination from the Fukushima Nuclear Accident and the global effects of this accident, similar to those caused by the Chernobyl accident. Benefit-risk ratio -- Essential fatty acids -- Grayling -- Hazard quotient -- Heavy metals
Аннотация: A formula was derived for quantification of benefit-risk ratio (hazard quotient) for the intake of a product containing essential polyunsaturated fatty acids vs. heavy metals. The quotient was used in a three year case study of the contents of essential fatty acids and heavy metals in Siberian grayling, the main food fish from the middle section of the Yenisei River. As found, in general the fish intake was potentially very beneficial for human health, except on a few occasions, when the risk overweighed the benefit because of high contents of chromium in the fish muscle tissue. The data demonstrated the necessity for regular monitoring of the hazard quotients for food fish in wild conditions, based at least on monthly sampling frequency. В© 2008 Elsevier Ltd. Аннотация: The database "BiolumBase" is designed for the selection and systematization of available world information on microorganisms containing bioluminescent systems; it includes two sections: "natural" and "transgenic" luminous microorganisms. At present, logic schemes of divisions, classification of the objects, presentation of characteristics, and the inputs of relative information, as well as the necessary program modules including links to the database, are developed. The database is constructed on the basis of published data and our own experimental results; the subsequent linkage of the database to the Internet is envisaged. Users will be able to obtain not only the catalogues of strains but also information concerning the properties and functions of the known species of luminous bacteria, the structure, regulatory mechanisms, and application of bioluminescent systems and genetically engineered constructions with live genes, as well as to find references and to search strains by using any set of attributes. The database will provide information that is of interest for the development of microbial ecology and biotechnology, in particular, for the prediction of biological hazard from the application of transgenic strains.

hot particles -- Yenisei River -- floodplain soils and sediments -- plutonium complex -- cesium and plutonium isotopes -- (241)Am -- dating of particles
Аннотация: The purpose of this study was to investigate radionuclide composition of the hot particles found in the floodplain of the Yenisei River and to discuss their possible Sources. Since 1995, researchers of the Institute of Biophysics have found a considerable number of hot particles that contain up to 29,000 kBq/particle of (137)Cs in the Yenisei River floodplain. Investigations of the particles in Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, and Novosibirsk have confirmed their reactor origin and made it possible to roughly estimate their age. Based oil comparative analysis of (137)Cs/(134)Cs ratios, all the particles can be divided into two or three major groups, suggesting that over the 50-year period of the MCC operation, there have been two or three emergency situations at the MCC reactors, with nuclear fuel microparticles released into the Yenisei. Microparticles containing up to 36 Bq/particle of (241)Am were detected in soil and sediment samples collected at the Yenisei River. In some of these particles the (137)Cs/(241)Am ratio is high but in the others - low. It remains unknown how these particles have been formed. However, these microparticles Occur in floodplain soils and sediments very frequently and, thus, can be considered to be the main form in which radionuclides are present in the Yenisei River floodplain. The presence of a large number of hot particles of different origin in the floodplain of the Yenisei River from the MCC production area down to the town of Yeniseisk (and, probably, farther downstream) is a source of potential health hazard to people.

Benefit-risk ratio -- Canned fish -- Heavy metals -- Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)
Аннотация: Fatty acid (FA) and element contents were studied in 14 brands of canned (in its own juice and with sunflower oil) saury (Cololabis saira), a popular product of Russian market. Canned saury is a valuable source of essential polyunsaturated FA - eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3). To obtain personal daily dose of EPA + DHA of 1 g for prevention of cardiovascular diseases, neural and inflammatory disorders one needs to intake from 26 to 76 g of canned saury, as was calculated for studied brands. ICP-OES analysis of 24 elements showed that Pb concentration in one brand and Cd content in most of studied saury samples exceeded standards for fish meat established by the European Commission. However, values of hazard quotient, HQEFA which estimate benefit-risk ratio of fish intake, indicate that canned saury is safe product for human nutrition. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Аннотация: A new method for assessing biotoxicity of nanomaterials, based on the use of soluble bioluminescent coupled enzyme system NAD(P)ai...H:FMN oxidoreductase and luciferase, is proposed. The results of this study indicate a significant adverse biological effect exerted by nanoparticles at the molecular level. It was found that the most toxic nanoparticles the nanoparticles are based on copper and copper oxide, as well as single-walled carbon nanotubes and multi-walled carbon nanofibers, which are referred to hazard class II.

Аннотация: In cold smoked species of genus Coregonus, identified by molecular genetic analysis, contents of fatty acids and heavy metals and arsenic were measured. The highest content of sum of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids of omega-3 family (LC-PUFA), namely eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) fatty acids, 6.53 ± 0.78 mg g?1 wet weight, was characteristic of tugun Coregonus tugun. This is the first quantitative estimation (mg LC-PUFA per g of product) of the nutritive value of smoked fish. Thus, to obtain a daily personal doze of EPA + DHA of 1 g, recommended for prevention of cardiovascular diseases, one needs to consume 153 g of the smoked tugun. Metals contents did not exceed standards for fish meat except Pb in least cisco Coregonus sardinella. Accordingly, values of hazard quotients, which estimate benefit-risk ratio of fish intake, indicate that most of the smoked fish species are safe product for human nutrition, except least cisco regarding Pb content. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.

bottom sediments -- the Yenisei River -- extreme flood event -- artificial -- radionuclides -- dating of layers
Аннотация: Long-term research has revealed layers with abnormally high concentrations of Cs-137 in bottom sediments and alluvial soils in the floodplain of the Yenisei River at various distances (as far as 820 km) downstream from the radioactive discharge point of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (MCC) of Rosatom. The highest activity concentration of Cs-137 in these layers reached 26 000 Bq/kg, which was higher than the Cs-137 maximum at the well-known radioactive anomaly in the Yeniseisk riparian zone (330 km downstream from the MCC), which was formed during the 1966 extreme flood event. The radionuclide composition and the Cs-137/Eu-152 and Cs-137/Co-60 ratios in the anomalous layers studied were the same as those at the Yeniseisk anomalous site, suggesting that they had the same origin by the transport of sediments from the MCC area during the 1966 extreme flood event. The transport of radioactive bottom sediments over long distances from the MCC discharge point downstream along the Yenisei River during the 1966 extreme flood event may continue to pose a possible radiation hazard to the river ecosystem and residents of riverside villages.
