Аннотация: The study addresses the effect of humic substances on marine luminous bacteria Photobacterium phosphoreum exposed to Am-241 (3,000 Bq L -1, water solution). Luminescent intensity of the bacteria was applied as a marker of their physiological activity. Humic substances have been found to reduce the effect of Am-241 on luminescence, decrease damage to cells, and change distribution of Am-241 between bacterial cells and intercellular media. It was shown that water-soluble humic substances, being products of natural transformation of organic substances in soil and bottom sediments, can serve as protecting agents for water microorganisms exposed to alpha radionuclides. Аннотация: The study addresses reflection and spectral-polarization characteristics of forest stands and farm crops obtained under field conditions. The study of the reflection properties of farm crops shows that during the summer plant growing season, the major factors influencing the plant canopy reflectance are morpho-physiological parameters, plant architectonics, solar elevation h0, and viewing angle. The crop reflectance minimum was recorded at viewing angles 25-30В° with respect to the nadir. Coniferous and broadleaf forest stands had similar reflectance spectra of polarized light. The polarized component was smaller for all coniferous stands than for broadleaf ones. For broad-leaved farm crops (wheat and corn), the polarized component of the spectral brightness coefficients had a greater influence on the plant reflectance in the red and near-infrared spectral regions, ?>720nm. Аннотация: A homogeneous luciferin preparation has been obtained from the luminous soil enchytraeid Fridericia heliota, which has an ATP-dependent luminescent system. A procedure for luciferin purification without losing fractions of active luciferase has been developed. The luciferin specific activity is 4000 times increased; its UV absorption spectrum maximum is 294 nm with a local minimum at 262 nm. The luciferin of the enchytraeid F. heliota is significantly different from firefly luciferin, whose luminescent reaction also requires ATP, and it also appears to have no similarities to other known luciferins.     Effect of volatile metabolites of dill, radish and garlic on growth of bacteria [Text] / L. S. Tirranen [et al.] // Acta Astronaut. - 2001. - Vol. 49, Is. 2. - P. 105-108, DOI 10.1016/S0094-5765(01)00006-6. - Cited References: 2 . - ISSN 0094-5765

Аннотация: In a model experiment plants were grown in sealed chambers on expanded clay aggregate under the luminance of 150 W/m(2) PAR and the temperature of 24 degreesC. Seven bacterial strains under investigation, replicated on nutrient medium surface in Petri dishes, were grown in the atmosphere of cultivated plants. Microbial response was evaluated by the difference between colony size in experiment and in control. In control, bacteria grew in the atmosphere of clean air. To study the effect of volatile metabolites of various plant on microbial growth, the experimental data were compared with the background values defined for each individual experiment. Expanded clay aggregate, luminance, temperature and sealed chamber (without plants) for the background were the same. Volatile metabolites from 28-days old radish plants have been reliably established to have no effect on the growth of microbes under investigation. Metabolites of 30-days old dill and 50-days old garlic have been established to have reliable bacteriostatic effect on the growth of three bacterial strains. Dill and garlic have been found to have different range of effects of volatile substances on bacterial growth. Volatile metabolites of dill and garlic differed in their effect on the sensitivity spectrum of bacteria. An attempt has been made to describe the obtained data mathematically.
