Аннотация: The physical properties of bulk composite materials consisting of nanodiamond, pyrolytic carbon, and nanopores were investigated. Samples were irradiated in a channel of the reactor by fast neutrons (E 0.5MeV) in ampoules with helium and in an aqueous medium. The dependences of the electrical transport properties of materials with different compositions on the dose of irradiation with fast neutrons were studied. A nonmonotonic change in the electrical resistivity with an increase in the neutron fluence was revealed. Possible explanations were offered for the observed dependence of the electrical resistivity on the neutron fluence, in particular, those related to the physical processes occurring in surface states of the three-phase system of the nanocomposite.

Аннотация: The results of experimental studies of optical power limiting (OPL) and nonlinear light scattering (NLS) at a wavelength of 532 nm in suspensions of detonation-synthesis modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) with different grain-size compositions are described. It is found that, at the same nanoparticle concentration, OPL and NLS are more efficient in suspensions with large MNDs. It is shown that MND suspensions can exhibit a stable long-term operation as OPL in a field of laser pulses with a power density of 0.2 GW/cm(2) at a repetition frequency of 1 Hz.

Аннотация: The effect of aflatoxin B1 on growth and luminescence of marine luminous bacteria P. phosphoreum and recombinant E. coli Z905 cells was investigated. The bidirectional effect of aflatoxin B1 on the studied bacterial species was detected-an inhibition of luminescence in P. phosphoreum and its stimulation in E. coli. It was shown that aflatoxin B1 influences the cell luminescence in the freshly grown cultures and bacteria restored after lyophilization. It was detected that the effect of aflatoxin B1 was graded after interaction with the modified nanodiamond (MND) of detonation synthesis. After mycotoxin's treatment with MND, it does not cause significant changes in bacterial luminescence. The possibilities for the use of P. phosphoreum and E. coli bacteria in the bioluminescent monitoring of aflatoxin B1 and the use of MND for mycotoxin deactivation are discussed.

Аннотация: Recombinant apoobelin and recombinant luciferase are separated from bacterial cells of Escherichia coli with the use of detonation nanodiamonds. The application of nanodiamonds has a number of points in its favor, namely, (i) simplifies the procedures for purifying the proteins, (ii) decreases the time of their separation to 30-40 min, (iii) eliminates the necessity of using special chromatographic equipment, and (iv) makes it possible to prepare high-purity apoobelin and luciferase materials with protein yields of 35-45 and 45-60%, respectively. The possible mechanisms of interaction of protein molecules and nanodiamond particles are analyzed. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Nanodiamonds -- Aflatoxin B(1) -- Detoxification -- Adsorbent
Аннотация: Hematological parameters and the state of liver cells of rats were examined in vivo after the animals received aflatoxin B(1) (AfB(1)) alone and together with modified nanodiamonds (MND) synthesized by detonation. The rats that had received the MND hydrosol had elevated leukocyte levels, mainly due to higher granulocyte counts and somewhat increased monocyte counts compared to control rats. Hematological parameters of the rats that had received AfB(1) alone differed from those of the control rats in another way: total white blood cell counts were significantly lower due to the decreased lymphocyte counts. In rats that had consumed AfB(1) with the MND hydrosol, changes in hematological parameters were less pronounced than in rats that had consumed either AfB(1) or MND. Electron microscopy showed that hepatocytes of the rats that had received the MND hydrosol or AfB(1) with the MND hydrosol contained elevated levels of lipid inclusions and lysosomes. Hyperplasia of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (EPR) was revealed in liver specimens of the rats that had received AfB(1). Results of the study suggest the conclusion about mutual mitigation of the effects of nanoparticles and the mycotoxin on rats blood and liver cells after AfB(1) has adsorbed on MND.

Аннотация: Surface of detonation nanodiamonds was functionalized for the covalent attachment of immunoglobulin, and simultaneously bovine serum albumin and Rabbit Anti-Mouse Antibody. The nanodiamond-IgG(I125) and RAM-nanodiamond-BSA(I125) complexes are stable in blood serum and the immobilized proteins retain their biological activity. It was shown that the RAM-nanodiamond-BSA(I125) complex is able to bind to the target antigen immobilized on the Sepharose 6B matrix through antibody-antigen interaction. The idea can be extended to use nanodiamonds as carriers for delivery of bioactive substances (i.e., drugs) to various targets in vivo.

Аннотация: Nanodiamonds synthesized by detonation have been found not to immobilize the ring form of pUC19 plasmid DNA. Linear pUC19 molecules with blunt ends, prepared by restriction of the initial ring form of pUC19 DNA, and linear 0.25-10 kb DNA fragments are adsorbed on nanodiamonds. The amount of adsorbed linear DNA molecules depends on the size of the molecules and the size of the nanodiamond clusters.

nanodiamond -- modified nanodiamonds -- hydrosols -- colloidal stability -- electrophoresis -- powder fractioning -- precursors for CVD -- electron field emission
Аннотация: A unique technology of nanodiamond surface modification is suggested which allows to separation of commercial nanodiamond powders into two fractions (F1 and 172), each possessing absolutely new properties as compared to the initial powder. F1 and F2 differ in size characteristics. Initial and modified nanodiamonds contain iron impurities and two types of nondiamond carbon. The color of the powders and hydrosols does not correlate with the content of non-diamond carbon. According to the EPR data, modified nanodiamonds possess a high level of diamond matrix shielding, and the extracted fractions differ in width of the basic transition area and in the SHF energy adsorption ratio. Due to this, F1 can be applied as precursors for CVD growth of nanocrystalline diamond and as field electron emission tips.

Аннотация: In experiments in vitro on human blood, it was shown that nanodianiond (ND) particles change the kinetics of active oxygen generation (AOG), causing white cell destruction and erythrocyte hemolysis. Various mechanisms of the observed effects have been considered. Nanodianionds adapted for biological research and possessing higher colloidal stability make it possible to obtain sterile hydrosols and mixtures with drugs and are more preferable for medical -biological research. We discussed the necessity of experiments in vivo and showed the first results of injection of the adapted nanodianionds to the laboratory animals. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The effect of laser radiation polarization on the nonlinear scattering of light in aqueous suspensions of detonation nanodiamonds (DNDs) in a regime of optical power limiting (OPL) has been studied. It is established that the nonlinear transmission coefficient of DND suspension in the OPL regime in a field of nanosecond laser pulses with a wavelength of 532 nm is independent of the polarization of incident radiation. The nonlinear scattering of light observed at an angle of 90A degrees in the plane perpendicular to the plane of polarization of the incident radiation depends on the polarization angle in accordance with a trigonometric law. It is shown that the ratio of the signals of scattered radiation for the vertical and horizontal polarizations exhibits nonmonotonic dependence on the laser-beam power density. The results are explained by the Rayleigh-Mie scattering and a change in the size of scattering centers as a result of the effect of a laser upon the DND suspension.

Аннотация: Detonation nanodiamond powders produced by different manufacturers were surface modified to reduce the amount of surface impurities and impart to the particles a high colloidal stability in aqueous suspensions. Modified DNDs (MDNDs) were separated into fractions and evaluated by the zeta potential, particles size distribution and elemental composition. MDNDs retain colloidal stability after the hydrosols are dried and the resulting powders are resuspended. Sedimentation stability and fraction composition are proposed as parameters for standardization of commercial nanodiamonds. © 2015 Copyright © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
