    A new approach to the study of the statistical properties of gene sequences / A. N. Gorban' [et al.] // Biophysics. - 1993. - Vol. 38, Is. 5. - P. 783-787 . - ISSN 0006-3509
Аннотация: An essentially new method is proposed for studying the statistical properties of gene sequences (g.s.) based on construction of a frequency-correlation dictionary (f.c.d.) for the g.s. being investigated (the f.c.d. is the set of all subsequences (words) with a length from 1 to N together with the frequencies of their encounter in the g.s. studied). It is shown that a measure of the redundancy of the g.s. is the characteristic length of the word d* starting from which all the words in the g.s. are unique, i.e. have the frequency 1. В© 1994.

CODON
Аннотация: This paper is devoted to the comparative stude of redundancy of genetic texts of various organisms and viruses. To determine the tedundance of a gene, we have introduced the strict measure for that latter. The measure for a text's redundance is the length of restriction of Frequence/Correlation Dictionary of a given genetic text. Frequence/Correlation Dictionary is the ser of all subsequences belang to a given genetic text, accompanied by the frequencies of their occurrence. The restriction length is defined as that one, for which all the subsequences (of that length) are unique. We have found, that genes of human viruses are less redundant, in comparison to those of human genes. Other aspects of a comparative redundance invastigations of the genes are discussed. The problem of the determination of truet intron could be treated by this methodology, as well, as the evolution of genome.

GENE -- CORRELATION -- REDUNDANCY
Аннотация: A new method is proposed for measuring and comparing the redundancy of genetic texts. It is based on compiling for a given text a frequency/correlation dictionary encompassing all the words (subsequences) of length from 1 to N encountered in the text (N is text length); the measure of redundancy is the minimal length at which all words are unique. Preliminary results are reported for different genetic texts.

Аннотация: This paper is devoted to an analysis of the intrinsic structure of the gene from the point of view of the redundancy of different structural units - exons and introns. Human genes for which the exon-intron structure has - been clearly established were Studied. The redundancy of each exon and intron in the gene was determined. It was shown that, in human genes, introns are more redundant than exons. Redundancy is determined as the smallest length of a word (oligonucleotide) beginning with which all words in the studied nucleotide sequence are found exactly once. Mechanisms leading to the disruption of the general pattern of ratios of redundancy of exons and introns are studied.

EXON -- INTRON -- WORD -- FREQUENCY -- REDUNDANCY
Аннотация: The article is devoted to analysis of the internal gene structure with respect to redundancy of exons and introns. Human genes with precisely determined exon-intron structure were studied. Redundancy of each exon and intron within a certain gene was measured. In the analyzed human genes, introns were more redundant than exons. Redundancy was determined as the minimal length of a word (oligonucleotide) that is present as a single copy within the nucleotide sequence studied. Mechanisms are discussed that lead to disturbances in the relationships found between the redundancies of exons and introns.

    Human virus genes are less redundant than human genes [Текст] / A. N. Gorban, T. G. Popova, M. G. Sadovskii // Genetika. - 1996. - Vol. 32, Is. 2. - P. 289-294. - Cited References: 8 . - ISSN 0016-6758

Аннотация: Statistical parameters of nucleotide sequences of mature human RNAs and those of human viruses were compared. The redundancy values of the appropriate genes were compared. The redundancy of virus genes was shown to be, on the average, less than that of human genes. The distribution of human genes according to redundancy values is bimodal, and that of human virus gene's is trimodal. This fact suggests possibility of a novel gene classification according to statistical characteristics of nucleotide sequences.

Аннотация: A specific index of nucleotide sequence redundancy, the specific restriction length of a finite frequency dictionary, was determined for a complete set of genes in some viral genomes and a genome of a bacterium, Bacillus subtilis. The distribution of the gene number over the specific restriction length was shown to be bimodal for viral genomes and unimodal for the Bac. subtilis genome. These results agree with earlier data.

Аннотация: The information capacity of sequences is considered through the calculation of specific entropy of their frequency dictionary. The specific entropy was calculated against the reconstructed dictionary which bears the most probable continuations of shorter strings. The measure developed allows to distinguish the sequences both from the random ones, and those with high level of (rather simple) order. Some applications of the developed methodology to genetics, bioinformatics, and linguistics axe discussed.

Аннотация: New method to reveal the sites in genomes obtaining the high information capacity is developed. A distribution of those sites of the length 3 among 16 viral genomes and I I bacteriophages genomes has been studied. It is shown that some tripletes with high information capacity occur in a family of relatively close genomes with the increased frequency. The molecular evolution aspects of a persistence of highly scored sites with respect to their information capacity among various genomes are discussed.

Аннотация: Fish are recognized as the main source of physiologically important omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, namely, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), for human nutrition. However, muscle tissue contents of these fatty acids in diverse fish species, i.e., their nutritive value for humans, varied within two orders of magnitude. We reviewed contents of EPA and DHA, measured by similar methods using an internal standard during chromatography as mg per g of wet mass in 172 fish species belonging to 16 orders, to evaluate probable variations in phylogenetic and ecological drivers. EPA + DHA content varied from 25.6 mg g(-1) of wet mass (Sardinops sagax) to 0.12 mg g(-1) (Gymnura spp.). Multidimensional redundancy analysis revealed that among phylogenetic, ecomorphological and abiotic environmental factors, the highest proportion of variation contribution belonged to the shared contribution of sets of phylogenetic and ecomorphological factors. Specifically, the highest values of EPA + DHA content were characteristic of fish belonging to the orders Clupeiformes or Salmoniformes, were pelagic fast swimmers, ate zooplankton and inhabited marine waters or migrated from fresh to marine waters (anadromous migrations). High EPA and DHA content in muscle tissues of the above species appeared to be a metabolic adaptation for fast continuous swimming. In contrast to common beliefs, our meta-analysis did not support the significant influence of higher trophic levels (piscivory) and cold environments (homeoviscous adaptation) on EPA and DHA content in fish. However, many causes of high and low levels of physiologically important fatty acids in certain fish species remained unexplained and require evaluation in future studies.

Аннотация: Accumulation of essential/beneficial and non-essential chemical elements by submerged (Stuckenia pectinata (L.) Borner) and emergent (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud.) rooted macrophytes in three water bodies was studied as dependent on water salinity (specific conductivity) and main environmental factors (temperature, pH of water, growing period, element contents in water and sediments). Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP - OES) was used for the element detection in the plants, sediments, and water. Multivariate statistics redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that investigated factors together explained 37.8 - 44.7% and 29.9 - 42.6% of the essential/beneficial and non-essential elements variability, respectively, whereas salinity was one of the main factors determining the accumulation of a number of elements (Mg, S, Na, Li, Sr, Sb) by the macrophytes. A decrease in the essential element contents (K, P, N, Cu, Zn) was observed in both species of the macrophytes during the growing season. Environmental factors (salinity, growing period, and pH) were more significant than the element contents in water and the sediments for the essential/beneficial element accumulation by two species of the macrophytes. The element contents in the sediments to a greater extent determined non-essential element accumulation by P. australis than by S. pectinata. The study showed that the efficiency of using P. australis and S. pectinata for remediation of aquatic ecosystems contaminated by heavy metals should not decrease with a salinity increase. © 2020 Elsevier Masson SAS
