Аннотация: The source of radioactive contamination of the Yenisei River floodplain, including contamination with transuranic elements, is the Mining-and-Chemical Combine of the Russian Ministry of Atomic Energy, which has for many years been producing weapons-grade plutonium. Transuranic elements have been detected not only in the soil and sediment of the river but also in the biomass of aquatic plants. This work is an investigation of accumulation and release of 241Am by a submerged macrophyte of the Yenisei River (Elodea canadensis) in laboratory experiments. In 2000-2003, laboratory experiments were carried out with biomass of E. canadensis Mich. and filtered river water. The samples were collected from the Yenisei River upstream of the discharge of the Combine's radioactive effluent. The experiments showed that 241Am is accumulated by Elodea biomass: the activity concentration of 241Am can reach 3280 В± 240 Bq/g, with the concentration factor for 241Am 16 600 В± 2200 l/kg. Results of chemical fractionation have proved that in the course of 241Am accumulation by Elodea biomass, 241Am tightly bound to biomass increases from 11% to 27% of the total 241Am in the biomass. Release of 241Am from the decaying Elodea biomass has been evaluated experimentally. By the end of the experiment (lasting up to 127 days), the Elodea plants had lost up to 65% of their initial 241Am activity and the rate of 241Am release into the water environment reached 23 Bq/day. Аннотация: The Yenisei River, one of the largest rivers in the world, is contaminated with artificial radionuclides released by one of the Russian nuclear plants, which produces weapons-grade plutonium and has been in operation for many years. The aim of the study that was conducted between 1997 and 2002 was to investigate accumulation of artificial radionuclides by aquatic plants of the Yenisei River. The aquatic plants sampled were: Potamogeton lucens (shining weed) and Fontinalis antipyretica (water moss). The ?-spectrometric analysis of the samples of aquatic plants for artificial radionuclides has revealed a wide spectrum of long-lived and short-lived radionuclides. Artificial radionuclides such as 51Cr, 54Mn, 58Co, 60Co, 65Zn, 137Cs, and 152Eu were found in aquatic plants collected both near the plutonium complex and 194 km downstream in the river. The radiochemical analysis of aquatic plants revealed strontium and isotopes of plutonium. Fontinalis antipyretica had very high concentration factors of the principal radionuclides: 14220, 3110 and 500 of 51Cr, 46Sc and 239Np, respectively.

Аннотация: The Yenisei River, one of the largest rivers in the world, is contaminated with artificial radionuclides released by a Russian nuclear facility producing weapon-grade plutonium, which has been in operation for many years. Examination of Yenisei River sediment samples revealed the presence of artificial radionuclides typical of radioactive discharge from the Mining-and-Chemical- Combine (MCC) nuclear facility: isotopes of europium ( 152Eu, 154Eu, and 155Eu), caesium ( 137Cs and 134Cs), 60Co, 90Sr, and transuranium elements. Maximum radionuclide concentrations in sediments remained high as far as 240 km downstream of the MCC. In sediment cores collected upstream of the MCC, ?-spectrometric measurements registered only one artificial radionuclide, 137Cs, with a maximum activity of approx. 8 Bq kg -1 dry mass. Sediments of the Yenisei River also contain natural radionuclides. Sedimentation rates in several sections of the Yenisei River were determined using, different approaches: the 210Pb dating method and the ratios of artificial radionuclides - 137Cs/ 60Co and 152Eu/ 154Eu. With increasing distance downstream of the city of Krasnoyarsk, sedimentation rates increased from 0.88 cm year -1 to 1.30-1.51 cm year -1. Copyright В© 2010 IAHS Press.

Аннотация: Phototrophic sulfur bacteria form dense accumulations in the chemocline zones of stratified lakes where light reaches the sulfide-containing layers of water. Many works are dedicated to the ecophysiology of these microorganisms in meromictic lakes. However, the role of these microorganisms in the trophic network of these ecosystems, the ways of biomass utilization, and the contribution to the turnover of biogenic elements have so far been insufficiently understood. This work deals with the analysis of many years' seasonal dynamics of the biomass of purple sulfur bacteria and the physicochemical conditions of their environment in Lake Shunet (Siberia, Khakassia, Russia), unraveling the causes of their anomalous development in the chemocline of this lake, as well as the comparative analysis of such type of ecosystems. Lake Shunet is characterized by markedly pronounced stratification and the high density of purple sulfur bacteria (PSB) in the chemocline, which is comparable to that of Lake Mahoney (Canada) where the number of PSB is the greatest among those known in the world. It was shown that, in the period 2002-2009, the total amount of bacterio-chlorophyll a in the water column of Lake Shunet increased and did not correlate with the seasonal variations in temperature and illumination in the chemocline. It was established that PSB cells in the purple layer experienced the effect of self-shading. The sedimentation rate of purple sulfur bacteria in Lake Shunet was low due to the pronounced density gradient in the chemocline zone. Thus, the high number of PSB in the chemocline was due to the combination of strong illumination, a high sulfide concentration, and a high water density gradient, which was responsible for stable stratification and contributed to the accumulation of the cells in a narrow layer. The data obtained could be useful for the paleoreconstruction of climatically deter-mined changes in the level of the lake and its periods of meromixis by the presence of carotenoids and bacte-riochlorophylls in the bottom sediments. Аннотация: In 2002, a "top-down" biomanipulation (reduction of biomass of planktivorous fish Carassius auratus) had been successfully carried out in a small reservoir of the river Bugach (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), after which the cyanobacterial blooming ceased. However, the reservoir ecosystem was absolutely free of Daphnia - the main link of trophic cascade. As supposed, the reduction of blooming was the result of suppression of a direct stimulation effect of planktivorous fish on cyanobacteria, revealed earlier in laboratory experiments. The question arose as to whether the effect of stimulation of cyanobacteria revealed in laboratory may lead to the changes in biomass of cyanobacteria in the reservoir, observed after the biomanipulation. To test this supposition, a mathematical model describing growth of cyanobacteria in the reservoir was developed. The modelling results and field data on biomass of cyanobacteria in summer closely coincided. Modelling calculations showed that direct influence of planktivorous fish could cause the second summer peak of water blooming by Microcystis. On the contrary, removal of crucian carp from the reservoir will not affect the level of water blooming caused by cyanobacteria Anabaena, as this species' growth is not stimulated by fish. Аннотация: To estimate the seasonal progress of the production process over the planet and its long-standing trend it is important to measure not only the spatial distributions of pigment that represent the rates of photosynthesis but also their time variability. Anthropogenic impact on natural complexes can be efficiently estimated by satellite observations of phytopigment dynamics. This study presents CZCS satellite data processed to reveal spatial inhomogeneity in the seasonal course of chlorophyll concentration in the world ocean on a global scale. Areas with quasistationary and non-stationary seasonal changes in chlorophyll concentration are revealed for the 7.5 years period of CZCS operation. Areas in the world ocean with maximum absolute and relative differences in chlorophyll concentration during different seasons were found. Results are illustrated with a chart of areas in the Atlantic Ocean discerned by dynamic parameters.

Аннотация: A concept is formulated on ecological and biophysics as a scientific discipline which studies physical processes and phenomena resulting from the functioning of live supra-organism systems. Three main directions of ecological biophysics are defined: creation of methods of monitoring ecosystems on the basis of probing biophysical fields (fields of bioluminescence and fluorescence); mathematical and physical modelling; and study of the role of live organisms in hydrophysical processes on the ecosystem scale. Examples are given of the realization of the ecologo-biophysical approach in research into the ecosystems of the world ocean, Lake Baikal and the Dnieper and Yenisei reservoirs. В© 1994.

Аннотация: The database "BiolumBase" is designed for the selection and systematization of available world information on microorganisms containing bioluminescent systems; it includes two sections: "natural" and "transgenic" luminous microorganisms. At present, logic schemes of divisions, classification of the objects, presentation of characteristics, and the inputs of relative information, as well as the necessary program modules including links to the database, are developed. The database is constructed on the basis of published data and our own experimental results; the subsequent linkage of the database to the Internet is envisaged. Users will be able to obtain not only the catalogues of strains but also information concerning the properties and functions of the known species of luminous bacteria, the structure, regulatory mechanisms, and application of bioluminescent systems and genetically engineered constructions with live genes, as well as to find references and to search strains by using any set of attributes. The database will provide information that is of interest for the development of microbial ecology and biotechnology, in particular, for the prediction of biological hazard from the application of transgenic strains.

Аннотация: The Institute of Biophysics SB RAS hosts and maintains a specialized collection of luminous bacteria (CCIBSO 836) containing over 700 strains isolated in various regions of the world's oceans. The culture collection is a source of lux genes and biologically active substances. The wide application of bioluminescence in medicine and ecology has given importance to analys-ing information on the structure and functioning of bioluminescence systems in natural and transgenic microorganisms, as well as on their features that are closely interrelated with bioluminescence. The aims of our BIOLUMBASE database are: gathering information on microorganisms with lux genes, their analysis and free access, and distribution of this data throughout the global network. The database includes two sections, natural and transgenic luminous microorganisms, and is updated by our own experimental results, the published literature and internet resources. For the future, a publicly available internet site for BIOLUMBASE is planned. This will list the strains and provide comprehensive information on the properties and functions of luminous bacteria, the mechanisms of regulation of bioluminescence systems, constructs with lux genes, and applications of bioluminescence in microbiology, ecology, medicine and biotechnology. It is noteworthy that this database will also be useful for evaluation of biological hazards of transgenic strains. Аннотация: The culture collection maintained at the Institute of Biophysics (IB), Siberian Division, Russian Academy of Sciences, is the only deposit in Russia and CIS which contains about 700 strains of five species of marine luminous bacteria sampled in various sites of the World Ocean. The strains collected are used for identification of luminous bacteria; studying their physiology, biochemistry, and cytology; and developing concepts of organization and metabolism of luminous bacteria under natural and laboratory conditions. Methods of their storage and practical use are developed. The results of these studies are summarized in a data bank, which will be incorporated into the general network of data banks on microbial cultures kept in Russia and into the international network of data banks on microorganisms (MSDN). Systematization of information on luminous bacteria possessing a unique visual marker allows their extensive use in basic research and genetic engineering, for environmental and medical applications, and for biotechnological purposes.

Аннотация: The brightness spectra of the Krasnoyarsk and Dnepr reservoir systems are presented for various periods of their development, from the beginning of their filling to the final stage of their formation. The curves of the surface distribution of chlorophyll a, which were remotely obtained from the brightness coefficient spectra, are found to be monotonic when diatomaceous, green protococcus, and dinophyte algae dominate in the phytoplankton. In the presence of blue-green algae, the curve of the distribution of phytoplankton on the surface is essentially irregular. The irregularities range from tens to hundreds of meters with sharp gradients of the phytoplankton concentration. The negative values of the VI color index change for positive ones when the concentration of chlorophyll a of the phytoplankton in the subsurface layer Cchl > 250-270 mg/m3. Аннотация: The notion of ecological biophysics as a scientific discipline investigating physical processes and phenomena caused by functioning of the living super-organism systems is formulated. The three main constituents of the ecological biophysics are defined: elaboration of the monitoring methods of the basis of sensing of the biophysical fields (of bioluminescence and fluorescence), mathematical and physical modeling and investigation of the part of living organisms in the hydrophysical processes of the ecosystem scale. Examples of realization of the ecological biophysical approach in the process of investigations of the World Ocean, Lake Baikal, the reservoirs of Dnieper and Yenisei revers are given.

Аннотация: Satellite monitoring of large-scale ocean fields allows collection and analyse of information on dynamics processes in various areas of the ocean. Investigation of the World Ocean processes involves the determination of space-time changes of sea surface temperature (SST). Water temperature of the ocean is one of major characteristics of surface water masses. Distribution of water temperature depends not only on regional climate peculiarities but also on formation of high gradient temperature zones. These zones emerge due to interaction of different current structure, circulation and eddies. Some more important characteristics of such zones are space dimensions and time of existence (lifetime). Space-time scales of the above structure have not been investigated in detail. The aim of the paper is to study space-time changes of the surface temperature frontal zones and frontal partitions in the ocean by AVHRR satellite information.

Аннотация: The suggested model of plastic garbage degradation allows us to obtain an estimate of the stationary density of their distribution over the surface of the World Ocean with account for the temperature dependence on the degradation rate. The model also allows us to estimate the characteristic time periods of degradation of plastic garbage and the dynamics of the mean density variation as the mean rate of plastic garbage entry into the ocean varies.

Аннотация: The long-term operation of three reactors and the radiochemical plant of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (MCC), Russia's largest producer of weapons-grade plutonium, has resulted in radioactive contamination of the Yenisei River floodplain. From 1995 to 2016, we found more than 200 radioactive particles (RP) in the Yenisei floodplain, downstream of the MCC. Analytical characterization showed that most of the RP were fuel particles, which were carried into the river after incidents at the MCC reactors. Having compared the Cs-137/Cs-134 ratios in the particles, we determined three time intervals when the RP were formed. The plutonium isotope ratios (Pu-238/Pu-239,Pu-240) vary substantially between the particles and indicate several different source terms. In addition to fuel RP, we found particles that only contained activation products (Co-60 or europium isotopes). SEM and gamma-spectrometry showed that the cobalt particles could have originated from the corrosion of the reactor coolant system and the europium particles -from the damaged compensating rods. No europium particles have been found anywhere else in the world. The presence of RP from different sources (fuel, cobalt, and europium particles) in the Yenisei River floodplain makes this region a unique site for studying environmental effects of the particles. These RP represent point sources of radioecological significance.

Аннотация: The two paradoxical major health problems namely obesity and anemia are confirmed to affect millions around the world. Hepcidin, a protein synthesized in liver is a negative iron binding regulator. There is an affirmative relation between hepcidin and leptin levels and an inverse co-relation between hepcidin and iron status due to inflammation mediated by obesity in adolescents. So this implicates an alliance between anemia and obesity wherein weight reduction can be a powerful medium to improve iron absorption in obese adolescents. Also the Body Mass Index can serve as a preliminary non-invasive screening tool to identify potential adolescents prone to anemia. © 2018

Аннотация: Abstract: The dynamics and specific features of the restoration of forbs–grass–wormwood and wormwood–grass phytocoenoses on fallow lands in the Altai region, the Republic of Khakassia, were determined on the basis of terrain and satellite data. The species composition, structure, and phytomass of the phytocoenoses were revealed. A gradual formation of structural elements of steppe communities in the studied areas was determined. This work showed the usefulness of time series of satellite data on the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) obtained with the use of MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) for the study of specific features of restored fallows. In general the biological parameters, projective cover, and phytomass determine the value of the NDVI. Interannual NDVI variability reflects the rate and time period of fallow restoration. From a certain point, the parameters increased and became close to the steppe (control variant). It has been revealed that not only abiotic factors (climate and soils), but also biotic parameters (grazing and recreational load) affect the NDVI. In this connection, the duration of restoration stages does not always correspond to the published data. They vary under different conditions. Climatic data of the Abakan meteorological station (index 29862 in the network of the World Meteorological Organization) for the period from 2000 to 2017 were statistically treated. The long-term annual average norms of temperatures and precipitation amounts (year and month) for the World Meteorological Organization base period of 1961–1990 were calculated. The dynamics of the temperature and precipitation, using long-term series of data, has been analyzed. © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: Reflection understood as an internal representation of the external world by the subject is the key property of consciousness. In a refined form this property is manifested in reflective games. To win a reflective game a player has to use reflection of strictly one rank higher than the opponent. So it can be assumed that there are only two game modes - when only one player uses reflection and wins and when both players use reflection but one of them chooses incorrect reflection rank. The option of random move selection is not considered since firstly, starting the game for a draw is strange, and secondly, it is technically impossible to make random moves without a special device. Experiments with recurrent neural networks playing with each other showed that the entire set of game patterns (time series of the game score) is split into two sharply different groups that can be associated with two modes mentioned above. Experiments, in which a multilayer neural network, which is basically incapable of reflection, played against a recurrent neural network, showed that a recurrent neural network has a clear advantage winning confidently in more than 90% of the games. At the same time game patterns demonstrate splitting into two sharply different groups as was observed in experiments with the game of two recurrent neural networks and in the reflexive game of living people. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
