Аннотация: The concentrations of carotenoids buried in the bottom sediments of Lake Shira (Siberia, Khakassiya) have analyzed for the period of the last 2300 years. The bottom sediments were found to contain carotenoids, which are molecular markers of the corresponding groups of Phototrophic organisms. The bottom sediments of Lake Shira were shown to be a promising object for climate reconstructions of the Late Holocene in southern Siberia. В© 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

fatty acids -- triacylglycerols -- polar lipids -- gammarids -- aquatic larvae of insects
Аннотация: The composition and content of fatty acids (FAs) in total lipids, triacylglycerols (TAG) and polar lipids (PL) in dominant groups of benthic invertebrates: gammarids (Gammaridae, Amphipoda), chironomid larvae (Chironomidae, Diptera), caddisfly larvae (Trichoptera) and mayfly larvae (Ephemeroptera) were studied in the Yenisei river. For the first time data on the FA composition of species belonging to Trichoptera (Insecta) are presented. The groups of aquatic insect larvae and gammarids weakly differed in total content of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Hence, the strong invasion of gammarids which occurred in the last decades in the Yenisei river should not result in a decrease in potential yield of essential PUFA in the ecosystem and corresponding decrease in food resource quality for fish in respect to PUFA content. Significant differences in biomarker FAs in TAG were found which correlated to specific food sources. Different levels of long-chain PUFA in PL of the invertebrates are discussed in relation to the genetic ability of particular taxa to form these FAs. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Inc. Аннотация: The present manuscript proposes a novel approach to assess the impact of food additives on human metabolism by analysing their effect on biomarker enzyme activity. Alterations in the activity of pancreatic enzymes, such as chymotrypsin and trypsin, which are affected by the most common food preservatives, sodium benzoate (E211), potassium sorbate (E202) and sorbic acid (E200), have been evaluated. The proteinase activity was analysed with a bioluminescent method using the light intensity decay constant. Our study revealed that the preservatives reduce proteinase activity by 50% (EC50) at a much lower concentration than their acceptable daily intake (ADI). Thus, sodium benzoate and sorbic acid have an inhibition effect on chymotrypsin at concentrations 14 times lower and 70 times lower than their ADI and this increases with exposure time. Food preservative consumption impacts negatively on protein digestion, which is especially dangerous for patients with pancreatitis. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

Fatty acid composition of fish species with different feeding habits from an Arctic Lake / M. I. Gladyshev [et al.] // Doklad. Biochem. Biophys. - 2017. - Vol. 474, Is. 1. - P220-223, DOI 10.1134/S1607672917030164 . - ISSN 1607-6729
Аннотация: We compared the composition and content of fatty acids (FAs) in fish with different feeding habits (sardine (least) cisco Coregonus sardinella, goggle-eyed charr (pucheglazka) form of Salvelinus alpinus complex, humpback whitefish Coregonus pidschian, broad whitefish Coregonus nasus, boganid charr Salvelinus boganidae, and northern pike Esox lucius from an Arctic Lake. Feeding habits of the studied fish (planktivore, benthivore, or piscivore) significantly affected the composition of biomarker fatty acids and the ratio of stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen in their biomass. The hypothesis on a higher content of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids in the fish of higher trophic level (piscivores) when compared within the same taxonomic group (order Salmoniformes) was confirmed. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

biomarker fatty acids -- ceratopogonid larvae -- saline rivers -- secondary production -- algae -- Bacillariophyta -- Ceratopogonidae -- Diptera -- Palpomyia
Аннотация: We studied species composition, density, biomass and production of larvae of the family Ceratopogonidae in two saline rivers (Volgograd region, Russia). Ceratopoponids make up an important part of macroinvertebrate community in these rivers. Average monthly production (dry weight) of ceratopogonid larvae in the rivers was 3.5-4.8 g m -2 month -1 in May and ?0.9 g m -2 month -1 in August. For the first time, feeding spectra of ceratopogonid larvae, Palpomyia schmidti Goetghebuer, 1934, was studied using fatty acid analyses. The larvae of P. schmidti appeared to selectively consume diatoms and other algae and to avoid bacteria and decomposed dead organic matter (detritus) of low nutritive quality. © CSIRO.

    Is Body Mass Index a potential biomarker for anemia in obese adolescents? / S. Pande, R. Ranjan, V. A. Kratasyuk // J. Nutr. Intermediary Metab. - 2019. - Vol. 15. - P1-2, DOI 10.1016/j.jnim.2018.11.001 . - ISSN 2352-3859

Anemia -- Body Mass Index -- Hepcidin -- Leptin -- Obesity
Аннотация: The two paradoxical major health problems namely obesity and anemia are confirmed to affect millions around the world. Hepcidin, a protein synthesized in liver is a negative iron binding regulator. There is an affirmative relation between hepcidin and leptin levels and an inverse co-relation between hepcidin and iron status due to inflammation mediated by obesity in adolescents. So this implicates an alliance between anemia and obesity wherein weight reduction can be a powerful medium to improve iron absorption in obese adolescents. Also the Body Mass Index can serve as a preliminary non-invasive screening tool to identify potential adolescents prone to anemia. © 2018

Sirtuins -- NAD -- biomarker -- proteomics -- calorie restriction -- longitivity
Аннотация: There is a poor relationship between nutrient intake and existing nutritional biomarkers due to variety of factors affecting their sensitivity and specificity. To explore the impact of nutrients at molecular level and devising a sensitive biomarker, proteomics is a central technology with sirtuins as one of the most promising nutritional biomarker. Sirtuins (seven mammalian sirtuins reported so far) have been reported to perform protein deacetylases and ADP-ribosyltransferases activity. It is distributed in different cellular compartments thereby controlling several metabolic processes. Sirtuins are oxidized nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide dependent, which implicates a direct effect of the metabolic state of the cell on its activity. Calorie restriction upregulates the mammalian sirtuin protein levels in variety of tissues and organs where it acts upon both histone and nonhistone substrates. Sirtuin senses nutrient availability and impacts gluconeogenesis, glycolysis, and insulin sensitivity. It deacetylates and inhibits the nuclear receptor that activates fat synthesis and adipogenesis in the body, leading to fat loss and bringing favorable cellular and health changes. Sirtuins mediates intracellular response that promotes cell survival, DNA damage repair thereby increasing the cell longitivity. The activation of sirtuins brings a wide spectrum of other health benefits and its activity levels are indicative of nutritional status as well as disease progression in cancer, inflammation, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and viral infections. There are several foods that activate sirtuin activity and offer significant health benefits by their consumption.

Аннотация: Bioluminescent solid-phase analysis was proposed to monitor the selection process and to determine binding characteristics of the aptamer-target complexes during design and development of the specific aptamers. The assay involves Ca2+-regulated photoprotein obelin as a simple, sensitive and fast reporter. Applicability and the prospects of the approach were exemplified by identification of DNA aptamers to cardiac troponin I, a highly specific early biomarker for acute myocardial infarction. Two structurally different aptamers specific to various epitopes of troponin I were obtained and then tested in a model bioluminescent assay.
