    Accumulation of 60Co, 90Sr, 137Cs, 238U and transuranic elements by berry shrubs in forest ecosystems of the Yenisei river basin / D. Dementyev, A. Bolsunovsky // Radioprotection. - 2011. - Vol. 46, Is. 6 SUPPL. - S25-S28, DOI 10.1051/radiopro/20116476s . - ISSN 0033-8451
Аннотация: The study investigates accumulation of radionuclides in 5 species of berry shrubs in forests of the Yenisei River basin (the Krasnoyarskii Krai, Russia). Activity concentrations of 60Co, 90Sr, 137Cs, 238U and transuranic elements in aboveground organs of the shrubs have been determined and their transfer factors calculated. Analysis of the calculated TFs shows that shrubs concentrate 90Sr more effectively than other study elements (TF = 0.25-1.9). The highest concentration of 137Cs is recorded in the berries and leaves of Ribes nigrumand Rubus idaeus. For these species, the range of 137Cs TFs (0.006-0.027) overlaps with the range of 238U TFs (0.004-0.018). For the aboveground parts of Ribes nigrum, TFs for transuranic radionuclides (0.01-0.056) are similar to or higher than the TFs for 238U and 137Cs. В© 2011 EDP Sciences.

Аннотация: A set of bioluminescent tests was developed to monitor water quality in natural and laboratory ecosystems. It consisted of four bioluminescent systems: luminous bacteria, coupled enzyme system NADH:FMN-oxidoreductase-luciferase and triplet enzyme systems with alcohol dehydrogenase and trypsin. The set of biotests was applied for a small forest pond (Siberia, Russia), laboratory microecosystems polluted with benzoquinone and a batch culture of blue-green algae. Thereby effects of natural water compared to those of models of heavy pollution and "bloom" of blue-greens on the bioluminescent tests were revealed. The set of biotests was not affected by a natural seasonal variability of water quality in the unpolluted pond, but responded to the heavy pollution and the "bloom" of blue-greens. The set of biotests could be recommended as the alarm test to control the acute toxicity of natural water bodies. В© 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Аннотация: The time series of various parameters of satellite imagery (NDVI/EVI, temperature) during the growing season were considered in this work. This means that satellite images were considered not like a number of single scenes but like temporal sequences. Using time series enables estimating the integral phenological properties of vegetation. The basis of the developed technique is to use one of the methods of transformation of the multidimensional space in order to get the principal components. The technique is based on considering each dimension of the multidimensional space as satellite imagery for a specific date range. The technique automatically identifies spatial patterns of vegetation that are similar by phenology and growing conditions. Subsequent analysis allowed identification of the belonging of derived classes. Thus, the technique of revealing the spatial distribution of different dynamical vegetation patterns based on the phenological characteristics has been developed. The technique is based on a transformation of the multidimensional space of states of vegetation. Based on the developed technique, areas were obtained with similar interannual trends. В© 2011 SPIE.

Аннотация: The study addresses reflection and spectral-polarization characteristics of forest stands and farm crops obtained under field conditions. The study of the reflection properties of farm crops shows that during the summer plant growing season, the major factors influencing the plant canopy reflectance are morpho-physiological parameters, plant architectonics, solar elevation h0, and viewing angle. The crop reflectance minimum was recorded at viewing angles 25-30В° with respect to the nadir. Coniferous and broadleaf forest stands had similar reflectance spectra of polarized light. The polarized component was smaller for all coniferous stands than for broadleaf ones. For broad-leaved farm crops (wheat and corn), the polarized component of the spectral brightness coefficients had a greater influence on the plant reflectance in the red and near-infrared spectral regions, ?>720nm. Аннотация: Remote sensing applications have greatly enhanced ability to monitor and manage in the areas of forestry. Accurate measurements of regional and global scale vegetation dynamics (phenology) are required to improve models and understanding of inter-annual variability in terrestrial ecosystem carbon exchange and climate-biosphere interactions. Study of vegetation phenology is required for understanding of variability in ecosystem. In this paper, monitoring of vegetation dynamics using time series of satellite data is presented. Vegetation variability (vegetation rate) in different topoclimatic areas is investigated. Original software using IDL interactive language for processing of satellite long-term data series was developed. To investigate growth dynamics vegetation rate inferred from remote sensing was used. All estimations based on annual time series of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery. Vegetation rate for Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was calculated using MODIS data. The time series covers spring seasons of each of 9 years, from 2000 to 2008. Comparison of EVI and NDVI derived growth rates has shown that NDVI derived rates reveal spatial structure better. Using long-term data of vegetation rates variance was estimated that helps to reveal areas with anomalous growth rate. Such estimation shows sensitivity degree of different areas to different topoclimatic conditions. Woods of heights depend on spatial topoclimatic variability unlike woods of lowlands. Principal components analysis shows vegetation with different rate conditions. Also it reveals vegetation of same type in areas with different conditions. It was demonstrated that using of methods for estimating the dynamic state of vegetation based on remote sensing data enables successful monitoring of vegetation phenology. В© 2011 COSPAR. Аннотация: Deep insight into types of vegetation variability provided by AVHRR space scanner images of vegetation index spatial distribution helps reveal impact of land surface changes on environment. The Institute of Computational Modeling SB RAS has developed nonparametric algorithms of automatic to classify and recognize patterns of these images which helped to reveal: (1) major variability types (generally connected); (2) areas belonging to small classes, which can be used to reveal deviations from 'normal' (e.g., forest fires, etc.); (3) deviation from a certain type of dynamics indicative of changes in condition of plants, which can be used to diagnose pathology at early stages; (4) impact of economical activities on vegetation in Norilsk area. The authors provide biological interpretation of the satellite data. Computer-animated dynamics and color maps are presented. Nonparametric algorithms of an automatic classification and pattern recognition were provided by the Institute of Computational Modeling SB RAS. (C) 2000 COSPAR. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.

Аннотация: Using experimental microecosystems the kinetics of phenol disappearance in small forest pond waters (Siberia, Russia) in the summer of 1995-96 were investigated. Despite of high variability of components of the ecosystem (plankton biomass and species composition) and two pronounced 'blooms' of green algae Volvox aureus the same kinetics of the disappearance took place over the investigated period. Half-lives of the pollutant depended on water temperature only. A comparison of the self-purification of the pond with that of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir, 'blooming' with blue-greens was carried out. Half-lives in the pond were significantly lower than that in the reservoir. During the periods of 'blooms' of the green algae in the pond the concentrations of inorganic nutrients were comparatively high and the phenol-degrading bacteria likely were not limited by these nutrients, in contrast to the periods of 'bloom' of the blue-green algae in the reservoir.

    Dynamics of algal biomass and composition of extracellular free fatty acids in experimental microecosystems / N. N. Sushchik // Biology Bulletin. - 1998. - Vol. 25, Is. 6. - P611-616 . - ISSN 1062-3590
Аннотация: The dynamics of biomass and species composition of microalgae and of composition of extracellular free fatty acids was studied for 98 days in laboratory experimental ecosystems inoculated with water from a forest pond. The microecosystems were kept at two temperature levels: 14-17 and 22-25В°C. During the experiment, a community of planktonic microalgae with the predominance of diatoms was succeeded by a community consisting mostly of green, filamentous algae. The succession of species composition of the algal community was accompanied by changes in the composition of extracellular free fatty acids. Variations of temperature did not markedly affect either the species composition of the microalgal community or the ratio of unsaturated to saturated free fatty acids. Аннотация: The possibility of the development of the solid phase bioluminescent biotest using aerial mycelium of luminous fungi was investigated. Effect of organic and inorganic toxic compounds (TC) at concentrations from 10 -6 to 1 mg/ml on luminescence of aerial mycelia of four species of luminous fungi-Armillaria borealis (Culture Collection of the Institute of Forest, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences), A. mellea, A. gallica, and Lampteromyces japonicus (Fungi Collection of the Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences)-has been studied. Culture of A. mellea was shown to be most sensitive to solutions of the model TC. It was demonstrated that the sensitivity of the luminous fungi is comparable with the sensitivity of the bacteria that are used for environmental monitoring. Use of the aerial mycelium of luminous fungi on the solid support as a test object is a promising approach in biotesting for the development of continuous biosensors for air monitoring. Аннотация: Six basic phase portraits differing in character and in the number of their equilibrium behaviour regimes were suggested in the classification of forest insect population dynamics. The portraits graphically illustrate six types of dynamic behavior of numbers of the system 'phytophage-entomophage': two types of stable equilibrium dynamics (stationary and oscillatory) and four types corresponding to outbreaks of mass reproduction - fixed, permanent, reversive and true outbreaks, respectively. In this paper we consider the single parameter model, with its parametric domains realizing a wide spectrum of phase dynamics, both basic and transitional. The changes in the phase portraits are accompanied by the bifurcations in the model. The results of these analyses are in agreement with the 'stability principle of mobile ecological systems' and may supply its parameter substantiation at the model level.

Global carbon cycle -- Siberian boreal forests -- mathematical modeling -- atmospheric boundary layer budget method
Аннотация: Difficulties in estimating terrestrial ecosystem CO2 fluxes on regional scales have significantly limited our understanding of the global carbon cycle. We present a method of using tall-tower-based CO2 concentrations for estimating CO2 fluxes over a forested region. With long-term measurements of the CO2 mixing ratio at a 300-m-tall tower, regional CO2 fluxes were estimated for several months, from the first obtained data. Estimates of a monthly-integrated surface CO2 flux over the region were obtained by the analysis of average gradients and estimates of the rate of vertical mixing between the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and the free troposphere. For the comparison of the ABL budget method and field measurements a zero-dimensional mathematical model of the ecosystem of Siberian boreal forests was used. The model is a system of ordinary differential equations with additional conditions superimposed on the parameters. The main occurring processes are described - photosynthesis, respiration, seasonal changes of active phytomass, water balance of trees, the influence of light, humidity, and temperature on photosynthesis and respiration. 16S rRNA gene -- Bacterial community -- Diversity -- Yenisei River -- Actinobacteria -- Bacteria (microorganisms) -- Cyanobacteria -- Proteobacteria
Аннотация: The biodiversity of bacterial communities along the Yenisei River at section c. 1800 km was studied using next-generation sequencing of 16S rRNA genes and common biodiversity indices. Overall, 3022 unique operational taxonomic units were identified. Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria were the dominant phyla at all sampling sites. The highest alpha-diversity values were found in the middle section of the studied river. The beta-diversity of bacterial assemblages in the river was related to the surrounding landscape (biome): three distinctly different bacterial assemblages occurred in sections of the river, situated in mountain taiga, plain taiga and in a region of permafrost, covered by forest-tundra and tundra. Tributaries arising from these different landscapes likely contributed substantially to the variations of Yenisei bacterial communities. In contrast to a prediction of the river continuum concept, the proportion of photoautotrophic Cyanobacteria in bacterial assemblages did not increase downstream, but peaked at the middle section. © 2014 Federation of European Microbiological Societies.

Аннотация: The paper presents results and analysis of a study on polarized characteristics of the reflectance factor of different plant canopies under field conditions, using optical remote sensing techniques. Polarization characteristics were recorded from the elevated work platform at heights of 10-18 m in June and July. Measurements were performed using a double-beam spectrophotometer with a polarized light filter attachment, within the spectral range from 400 to 820 nm. The viewing zenith angle was below 20 degree. Birch (Betila pubescens), pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), wheat (Triticum acstivum) [L.] crops, corn (Zea mays L ssp. mays) crops, and various grass canopies were used in this study. The following polarization characteristics were studied: the reflectance factor of the canopy with the polarizer adjusted to transmit the maximum and minimum amounts of light (R-max and R-min), polarized component of the reflectance factor (R-q), and the degree of polarization (P). Wheat, corn, and grass canopies have higher R-max and R-min values than forest plants. The R-q and P values are higher for the birch than for the pine within the wavelength range between 430 and 740 nm. The study shows that polarization characteristics of plant canopies may be used as an effective means of decoding remote sensing data. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
