Аннотация: The effect of elevated temperatures of 35 and 45В°C (at the intensities of photosynthetically active radiation 322, 690 and 1104 ?mol-m-2-s-1) on the photosynthesis, respiration, and qualitative and quantitative composition of the volatiles emitted by wheat (Triticum aestuvi L., cultivar 232) crops was investigated in growth chambers. Identification and quantification of more than 20 volatile compounds (terpenoids - ?-pinene, ?3 carene, limonene, benzene, ?-and transcaryophyllene, ?- and ?-terpinene, their derivatives, aromatic hydrocarbons, etc.) were conducted by gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry. Under light intensity of 1104 ?mol-m-2-s-1, heat resistance of photosynthesis and respiration increased at 35В°C and decreased at 45В°C. The action of elevated temperatures brought about variations in the rate and direction of the synthesis of volatile metabolites. The emission of volatile compounds was the greatest under a reduced irradiation of 322 ?mol-m-2-s-1 and the smallest under 1104 ?mol-m-2-s-1 at 35В°C. During the repair period, the contents and proportions of volatile compounds were different from their initial values, too. The degree of disruption and the following recovery of the functional state depended on the light intensity during the exposure to elevated temperatures. The investigation of the atmosphere of the growth chamber without plants has revaled the substances that were definitely technogenic in origin: tetramethylurea, dimethylsulfide, dibutylsulfide, dibutylphthalate, and a number of components of furan and silane nature. Аннотация: A mass-flow model of carbon cycle in a bioregenerative life support system (BLSS) including Resource, Plant Growth, Food Processing, Human, Waste Processing, and Waste Storage Modules was developed. A human received food from Plant Growth and Resource Modules. Plants were assumed to be growing on the soil-like substrate (SLS). Another function of SLS was balancing the carbon cycle. The input of BLSS was set to 81 g of carbon per day along with food from the Resource Module. To balance the carbon cycle an equal arnount of carbon was removed from BLSS along with urine, feces, plant wastes, and SLS. A mass flow of carbon cycle was used to simulate the effect of light intensity on the basic parameters of the Plant Growth Module. It was calculated that the stationary dry mass of SLS increases from 10 to 35 kg m(-2) with increase canopy-level daily photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) from 34 to 178 mol m(-2) d(-1). On the contrary dry mass of SLS needed to provide one person with plant food is not dependent on light intensity. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: A method is developed to determine the parameters of electromagnetic and elastic excitations in molecular crystals including the polariton resonance region. The dependence of eigenvectors and eigenfrequencies on the wavevector of elementary excitations is calculated numerically for m-chloronitrobenzene crystals. The conditions are found when the photon-phonon resonance effect becomes observable in the Raman scattering (RS) spectra of this crystal.

Аннотация: Translation of apoobelin mRNA in a cell-free wheat germ translation system in the presence of coelenterazine and molecular oxygen results in cotranslational formation of active photoprotein. Active obelin formation is recorded by its luminescence, either direct in the translation mixture in the presence of coelenterazine and calcium ions or in aliquots from the translation mixture. In the second case translation is carried out with coelenterazine and EGTA. Registration of the translation course by luminescence of the synthesized product in both cases allows use of apoobelin mRNA at very low concentrations as an internal marker for immediate measure of protein biosynthesis activity of in vitro translation systems. It is shown that the simultaneous translation of any other mRNA does not affect translation of photoprotein mRNAs under standard conditions. Continuous registration of luminescence in a cuvette of a liquid scintillation counter in photon-counting mode varies the time of signal accumulation in a wide temporal range, thus increasing the numerical values of the recorded signals. Registration of photoprotein luminescence during translation can be used to obtain additional information about the translation process, for example codon reading speed, about protein folding, and about the formation of active proteins on ribosomes. Аннотация: Wheat (Triticum sativus L.) seedlings of various ages (2- to 16-day-old plants) were used to study age-dependent changes in the chlorophyll fluorescence induction (CFI) at various light intensities during flu- orescence measurements. Plants were raised in a growth chamber using hydroponics with expanded clay, controlled environmental conditions, and 690 A mu mol/(m(2) s) photon flux density (PFD) of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Parameters of CFI were determined under actinic PFD of 380, 580, 820, and 1340 A mu mol/(m(2) s) PAR. The fifth leaf from the stem base, exposed to uniform lighting, was sampled for measurements. This leaf emerged at the plant age of 16 days. Based on fluorescence data, we calculated the maximal photochemical quantum yield of photosystem II (F (v)/F (m)), the effective photochemical quantum yield of PSII (Yield), parameters of photochemical (qP) and non-photochemical (qN and NPQ) quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence, the F (p)/F (t) ratio, and the "vitality index" (fluorescence decrease ratio, R (fd)). At moderate actinic PFD, applied commonly in PAM fluorometers (about 380 A mu mol/(m(2) s)), age-dependent changes in NPQ, F (p)/F (t), and R (fd) were observed. Analysis of CFI parameters in wheat leaves of different ages at PFD increasing from 380 to 820 A mu mol/(m(2) s) revealed that R (fd), NPQ, and qN are the most sensitive markers of the leaf age among all parameters tested. These suitable indicators can be used for rapid assessment of the leaf age.

Аннотация: We report on a high performance nonlinear optical filter for the telecommunication window that employs detonation nanodiamonds (NDs). The nanosecond Z-scan experiments revealed that the heavy water ND suspensions enable strong optical limiting in the wavelength range of 1400-1675 nm. We observed an enhancement of the optical limiting performance in the blue part of the communication window. In particular, at the wavelength of 1400 nm the transmittance of the 2 mm thick sample with 4.5 wt. % ND concentration is suppressed by 45% for the input fluence of 3.8 J/cm(2). The proposed nonlinear optical filter employs the phenomena of the nonlinear absorption and the nonlinear light scattering in ND suspensions. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

actinic light intensity -- induction of chlorophyll fluorescence -- leaf ontogeny -- Triticum aestivum
Аннотация: Application of pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) fluorometers for measuring slow stages of chlorophyll fluorescence induction (CFI) is considered. With an example of Triticum aestuvum L. plants grown under continuous illumination at a photon flux density of 600 μmol/(m2 s) photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), the CFI curves were analyzed with leaves of various ages as a function of actinic light intensity. The fluorometer PAM-2100 was applied for measurements of CFI curves. The characteristic peaks of CFI curves in wheat leaves were most conspicuous and had the largest amplitudes at 600–800 μmol/(m2 s) PAR, which corresponds to the middle range of actinic light intensities employed in PAM-2100 fluorometers. In plants exposed to favorable and stressful conditions, the developmental stages may proceed at different rates; thus, the comparison of fluorescence parameters for leaves of equal calendar age but having different physiological states may provide ambiguous data. Therefore, the feasibility of recording CFI curves of different types is quite important for rapid diagnostics of the age and state of plant leaves, as well as for adequate physiological conclusions. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Why does the bioluminescent fungus Armillaria mellea have luminous mycelium but nonluminous fruiting body? / K. V. Purtov [et al.] // Doklad. Biochem. Biophys. - 2017. - Vol. 474, Is. 1. - P217-219, DOI 10.1134/S1607672917030176 . - ISSN 1607-6729
Аннотация: By determining the components involved in the bioluminescence process in luminous and nonluminous organs of the honey fungus Armillaria mellea, we have established causes of partial luminescence of this fungus. The complete set of enzymes and substrates required for bioluminescence is formed only in the mycelium and only under the conditions of free oxygen access. Since the synthesis of luciferin precursor (hispidin) and 3-hydroxyhispidin hydroxylase in the fruiting bodies is blocked, the formation of luciferin—the key component of fungal bioluminescent system—was not observed. That is why the fruiting body of Armillaria mellea is nonluminous despite the presence of luciferase, the enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of luciferin with a photon emission. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Substrates pretreatment in suspensions of a detonation nanodiamond is widely used for nucleation of diamond growth by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). We found that iron inclusions in the nanodiamond provide catalytical growth of carbon nanotubes during CVD in a hot filament reactor (HF CVD). Carbon nanotubes grow in the area between two adjacent Si wafers. The diameters of such obtained nanotubes were in the range of 10-100 nm and the length of the tubes reaches about 10 mu m. The proposed HF CVD method has convincing potential for the fabrication of carbon nanotube coatings on a large surface area.

Аннотация: The range of variations in parameter tau(0.5) - half-time of fluorescence intensity decrease during the slow phase of chlorophyll fluorescence induction (CFI) - has been studied during ontogeny of leaves of monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants in plant communities of different structures. Plants were grown hydroponically on expanded clay aggregate in growth chambers, under PPFD of 400 mu mol(photon) m(-2) s(-1), under controlled conditions. Analysis of the literature data and results of experimental observations of tau(0.5) behavior compared to other CFI parameters, nonphotochemical quenching coefficient, q(N), in particular, leads to the conclusion that parameter tau(0.5) can be effectively used for indirect estimation of variations in the activity of photosynthetic apparatus during ontogeny of plant leaves.
