Аннотация: A submerged macrophyte of the Yenisei River, Elodea canadensis, was used to study the microdistribution of the artificial radionuclide 241Am among different components of the plant. The total amount of 241Am added to the experimental system was 1850 В± 31 Bq/L. The total amount of 241Am accumulated by the plants was 182 Bq per sample, or 758,333 В± 385 Bq/kg dry mass. It has been found that the major portion of 241Am accumulated by E. canadensis, up to 85%, was bound to solid components of the cells. It is observed that the microdistribution of 241Am within different components of the submerged plant E. canadensis was not uniform. 241Am distribution vary depending on the age of the leaf blades, the state of the cells and morphological features of the plant stem. Аннотация: It is shown experimentally that 241Am activity accumulated by elodea is mainly contained in leaves (up to 80%) and about 20% - in the stem. Specific capacity of leaves in respect to americium is considerably dependent on the plant age that is due to formed on elodea leaf surface organo-mineral sediment consisting of mineral salts, epiphytic microorganisms and exometabolites. Am accumulation is larger in the older leaves (located lower on the stem) - nearly 70% of activity of americium accumulated by the whole plant biomass.

Triticum sativus -- chlorophyll fluorescence parameters -- actinic light -- intensity -- leaf ontogeny
Аннотация: Wheat (Triticum sativus L.) seedlings of various ages (2- to 16-day-old plants) were used to study age-dependent changes in the chlorophyll fluorescence induction (CFI) at various light intensities during flu- orescence measurements. Plants were raised in a growth chamber using hydroponics with expanded clay, controlled environmental conditions, and 690 A mu mol/(m(2) s) photon flux density (PFD) of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Parameters of CFI were determined under actinic PFD of 380, 580, 820, and 1340 A mu mol/(m(2) s) PAR. The fifth leaf from the stem base, exposed to uniform lighting, was sampled for measurements. This leaf emerged at the plant age of 16 days. Based on fluorescence data, we calculated the maximal photochemical quantum yield of photosystem II (F (v)/F (m)), the effective photochemical quantum yield of PSII (Yield), parameters of photochemical (qP) and non-photochemical (qN and NPQ) quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence, the F (p)/F (t) ratio, and the "vitality index" (fluorescence decrease ratio, R (fd)). At moderate actinic PFD, applied commonly in PAM fluorometers (about 380 A mu mol/(m(2) s)), age-dependent changes in NPQ, F (p)/F (t), and R (fd) were observed. Analysis of CFI parameters in wheat leaves of different ages at PFD increasing from 380 to 820 A mu mol/(m(2) s) revealed that R (fd), NPQ, and qN are the most sensitive markers of the leaf age among all parameters tested. These suitable indicators can be used for rapid assessment of the leaf age.

Аннотация: CO2 laser radiation was used to process poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) constructs - films and 3D pressed plates. Laser processing increased the biocompatibility of unperforated films treated with moderate uniform radiation, as estimated by the number and degree of adhesion of NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblast cells. The biocompatibility of perforated films modified in the pulsed mode did not change significantly. At the same time, pulsed laser processing of the 3D plates produced perforated scaffolds with improved mechanical properties and high biocompatibility with bone marrow-derived multipotent, mesenchymal stem cells, which show great promise for bone regeneration. © 2015 Taylor & Francis.

Forest stands of middle siberia -- Net primary production (NPP) -- Root phytomass
Аннотация: The authors propose several methods of net primary production (NPP) evaluation for tree stands of Middle Siberia. The authors’ approach is based on the model of the distribution of tree (tree stand) phytomass among different tree components (stem, roots, branches, foliage) using the Zipf-Pareto equation. This model can be used not only to calculate the phytomass and NPP of the tree aboveground parts but also to determine quite accurately the phytomass and NPP of the roots. Several approaches to calculation of tree stand NPP have been proposed, depending on the amount of available data. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Аннотация: The present study reports construction of wound dressing materials from degradable natural polymers such as hydroxy derivatives of carboxylic acids (PHAs) and 3-hydroxybutyrate/4-hydroxybutyrate [P(3HB/4HB)] as copolymer. The developed polymer films and electrospun membranes were evaluated for its wound healing properties with Grafts—elastic nonwoven membranes carrying fibroblast cells derived from adipose tissue multipotent mesenchymal stem cells. The efficacy of nonwoven membranes of P(3HB/4HB) carrying the culture of allogenic fibroblasts was assessed against model skin defects in Wistar rats. The morphological, histological and molecular studies revealed the presence of fibroblasts on dressing materials which facilitated wound healing, vascularization and regeneration. Further it was also observed that cells secreted extracellular matrix proteins which formed a layer on the surface of membranes and promoted the migration of epidermal cells from the neighboring tissues surrounding the wound. The wounds under the P(3HB/4HB) membrane carrying cells healed 1.4 times faster than the wounds under the cell-free membrane and 3.5 times faster than the wounds healing under the eschar (control). The complete wound healing process was achieved at Day 14. Thus the study highlights the importance of nonwoven membranes developed from degradable P(3HB/4HB) polymers in reducing inflammation, enhancing angiogenic properties of skin and facilitating better wound healing process. © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Аннотация: The study describes preparation and testing of porous 3D implants of natural degradable polymer of 3-hydroxybutyric acid P(3HB) for regeneration of bone tissue defects. The ability of the P(3HB) implants to favor attachment and facilitate proliferation and directed differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) was studied in the culture of MSCs isolated from bone marrow and adipose tissue. Tissue-engineered hybrid systems (grafts) constructed using P(3HB) and P(3HB) in combination with osteoblasts were used in experiments on laboratory animals (n=48) with bone defect model. The defect model (5 mm in diameter) was created in the rat parietal bone, and filling of the defect by the new bone tissue was monitored in the groups of animals with P(3HB) implants, with commercial material, and without implants (negative control). Computed tomography (CT) and histologic examination showed that after 120 days, in the group with the osteoblast-seeded P(3HB) implants, the defect was completely closed; in the group with the cell-free P(3HB) implants, the remaining defect was no more than 10% of the initial one (0.5 mm); in both the negative and positive controls, the size of the defect was about 1.0-1.2 mm. These results suggest that P(3HB) has good potential as osteoplastic material for reconstructive osteogenesis. (c) 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Biomed Mater Res Part A: 105A: 566-577, 2017.

Аннотация: The model of forest stand growth proposed in this study is based on R. Solow's model of economic growth. The variables introduced into the model are the "capital" (the phytomass of the non-synthesizing tree components in the stand-the stem, roots, and branches) and the "labor" (the phytomass of the photosynthesizing tree components in the stand-leaves or needles). Root phytomass is calculated with a special independent model. The process of energy production by the trees is described with the Cobb-Douglas equation. The proposed approach is used to describe growth processes in the forest stands comprising various species in Siberia and the age dynamics of net primary production. The model can explain a number of effects (such as death of the forest stand after the needles have been consumed by defoliating insects) that cannot be explained by standard logistic models. © 2018 by the authors.

Аннотация: Hybrid wound dressings have been constructed using two biomaterials: bacterial cellulose (BC) and copolymer of 3-hydroxybutyric and 4-hydroxybutyric acids [P(3HB/4HB)] – a biodegradable polymer of microbial origin. Some of the experimental membranes were loaded with drugs promoting wound healing and epidermal cells differentiated from multipotent adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells. A study has been carried out to investigate the structure and physical/mechanical properties of the membranes. The in vitro study showed that the most effective scaffolds for growing fibroblasts were composite BC/P(3HB/4HB) films loaded with actovegin. Two types of the experimental biotechnological wound dressings – BC/P(3HB/4HB)/actovegin and BC/P(3HB/4HB)/fibroblasts – were tested in vivo, on laboratory animals with model third-degree skin burns. Wound planimetry, histological examination, and biochemical and molecular methods of detecting factors of angiogenesis, inflammation, type I collagen, and keratin 10 and 14 were used to monitor wound healing. Experimental wound dressings promoted healing more effectively than VoskoPran – a commercial wound dressing. © 2019

Аннотация: Five permanent sample plots (SPs; 200-250 trees per plot) were established in middle-aged high-grade suburban pine stands near the industrial city of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Russia. Needle damage, inventory parameters of the stands, and the defense response of the stem phloem were evaluated annually for the years 2002-2019 and attributed to acute or chronic toxic exposures (creeping fire or industrial pollutants, respectively). The results form a basis for using trees as bioindicators. A newly elaborated stem lesion test was formed from a hypothesis on the upward sugar transport for the regeneration of an injured crown, based on Eschrich's model of bidirectional sugar transport in the phloem. The formation of a phloem lesion was induced by inoculation of the stem with a mycelial extract of the ophiostomatoid fungus Ceratocystis laricicola. The lesion length and its shift relative to the inoculation hole were measured. An increase in the length of needles at early stages of stand weakening by pollutants was found to correspond to the hormesis model (Selye's adaptation syndrome). A possibility of assessing the chronology of pollutant toxicity and the duration of the recovery period after creeping fire was shown.

The formation of a phloem lesion was induced by inoculation of the stem with a mycelial extract of the ophiostomatoid fungus Ceratocystis laricicola. The lesion length and its shift relative to the inoculation hole were measured. An increase in the length of needles at early stages of stand weakening by pollutants was found to correspond to the hormesis model (Selye‘s adaptation syndrome). A possibility of assessing the chronology of pollutant toxicity and the duration of the recovery period after creeping fire was shown. © 2020 by the authors.

Аннотация: The paper considers a new approach to modeling the relationship between the increase in woody phytomass in the pine forest and satellite-derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Land Surface Temperature (LST) (MODIS/AQUA) data. The developed model combines the phenological and forest growth processes. For the analysis, NDVI and LST (MODIS) satellite data were used together with the measurements of tree-ring widths (TRW). NDVI data contain features of each growing season. The models include parameters of parabolic approximation of NDVI and LST time series transformed using principal component analysis. The study shows that the current rate of TRW is determined by the total values of principal components of the satellite indices over the season and the rate of tree increment in the preceding year. © 2020 by the authors.
