Аннотация: The integrated study addressing biodegradation of microbial linear polyesters of hydroxyalkanoic acids (polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHAs) in tropical conditions by microbial communities of Vietnamese soils was performed in locations close to Hanoi and Nha Trang, which differed in their weather conditions and microbial communities. It shows that PHA degradation in tropical soils is influenced by polymer chemical composition, specimen shape, and microbial characteristics. The homopolymer of 3-hydroxybutyric acid is degraded at higher rates than the copolymer of 3-hydroxybutyric and 3-hydroxyvaleric acids. The average rates of mass loss were 0.04-0.33% per day for films and 0.02-0.18% for compact pellets. PHA degradation was accompanied by a decrease in the polymer molecular mass and, usually, an increase in the degree of crystallinity, suggesting preferential degradation of the amorphous phase. Under the study conditions, representatives of the bacterial genera Burkholderia, Bacillus, Cupriavidus, Mycobacterium, and Nocardiopsis and such micromycetes as Acremonium, Gongronella, Paecilomyces, and Penicillium, Trichoderma have been identified as major PHA degraders. Аннотация: Using 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses we investigated the bacterial diversity of winter bacterioplankton of two eutrophic Siberian reservoirs. These reservoirs show similarity in phytoplankton community composition in spring and autumn but tend to differ in summer in exhibiting cyanobacterial bloom. Forty-eight unique partial 16S RNA gene sequences retrieved from two libraries were mostly affiliated with the class Actinobacteria, beta subdivision of the class Proteobacteria, and the phylum Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroides The clone library of the pond exhibiting summer cyanobacterial bloom showed more diversity in sequence composition. A significant number of bacterial 16S rRNA gene clones were closely related to freshwater bacteria previously found in different aquatic ecosystems. This finding confirms the assumption that some bacterial clades are globally distributed.

Аннотация: We report isolation and structure elucidation of AsLn5, AsLn7, AsLn11 and AsLn12: novel luciferin analogs from the bioluminescent earthworm Fridericia heliota. They were found to be highly unusual modified peptides, comprising either of the two tyrosine-derived chromophores, CompX or CompY and a set of amino acids, including threonine, gamma-aminobutyric acid, homoarginine, and unsymmetrical N,N-dimethylarginine. These natural compounds represent a unique peptide chemistry found in terrestrial animals and rise novel questions concerning their biosynthetic origin.

Аннотация: Morphological analysis of muksun Coregonus muksun of the Khatanga River basin revealed that along with its typical high-density-rakered form, individuals of the low-density-rakered form also live in this region. Analysis of the genetic polymorphism of three marker regions of mitochondrial (ND1 and COI fragments) and nuclear (ITS1) DNA indicates the polyphyletic origin of these forms. The revealed low level of genetic differentiation of muksun and whitefish C. lavaretus, along with the available data on the absence of clear diagnostic species characteristics, suggest that they belong to the same biological species C. lavaretus.
