Аннотация: A focused He - Ne laser beam is shown to cause local blackening of semitransparent detonation nanodiamond (DND) films at incident power densities above 600 W cm(-2). Data obtained with a Raman spectrometer and low-power 632.8-nm laser source indicate that the blackening is accompanied by a decrease in broadband background luminescence and emergence of sharp Raman peaks corresponding to the structures of nanodiamond and sp(2) carbon. The feasibility of image recording on DND films by a focused He - Ne laser beam is demonstrated.

Аннотация: Simple models of terrestrial ecosystems with a limited number of components are an efficient tool to study the main laws of functioning of populations, including microbial ones, and their communities, as components of natural ecosystems, under variable environmental conditions. Among other factors are the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and limitation of plants' growth by biogenic elements. The main types of ecosystems' responses to changes in environmental conditions (a change in CO2 concentration) have been demonstrated in a "plants - rhizospheric microorganisms - artificial soil" simple experimental system. The mathematical model of interactions between plants and microorganisms under normal and elevated atmospheric CO2 and limitation by nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) yielded a qualitative agreement between calculated and experimental values of limiting substances concentrations and release rates of exudates. Soil organic matter -- Continual model of soil -- Soil formation
Аннотация: The study proposes a model of transformation and decomposition of soil organic matter, based on using the rate of matter transformation as a continual scale of its transformation degree. The model is represented by one partial derivative differential equation that has an analytical solution. This model has only two adjustable parameters, while the number of experimentally determined parameters depends on how detailed the description of the plant litter is supposed to be. The model has been tested, and model parameters have been evaluated by comparing model predictions with the literature data on the stock of soil organic matter in different types of ecosystems. Аннотация: We estimated the seston elemental composition (C, N, P) and its ratio in pelagic and littoral zones of mesotrophic shallow Lake Obsterno during two contrasting seasons, as well as the influence of macrophyte beds on the seston stoichiometry. In the both pelagial and littoral zones in summer the C : N ratio was small, 4.62 and 7.05 respectively. But it increased slightly during autumn to 5.66 in pelagic samples against 8.33 in littoral ones. The large N : P ratio and the small phosphorus content specially in the macrophyte covered littoral zone equal to 57.7 in July against 22.47 in September suggest a high level of phosphorus limitation in the littoral locations as a possible mediated reason suppressing zooplankton abundance in summer. Our results in the both pelagial and littoral habitat showed a highly P limited situation in which the N : P ratio was larger in littoral with macrophyte than in pelagial zones. The obtained data of littoral seston stoichiometry were recorded for the first time and exceeded the classical Redfield ratio. The elemental imbalance between macrophyte covered littoral and pelagial suggest that nutrients, especially P, are more limiting in macrophyte beds in summer due to the resource competition between phytoplankton and macrophytes for nutrients, a poor food quality, low zooplankton abundance, as well as its poor taxon-specific elemental ratio in summer.

Аннотация: Diverse, multidirectional changes in biochemical composition of seston, plankton, and fish fry are detected in the coastal zone of a plain reservoir in the vicinity of a semiaquatic bird colony during vegetation season with extra high water level. Under these conditions, specific patterns of phyto- and zooplankton structure and quantitative characteristics, that, as was found out earlier, result from the vital activity of birds belonging to the family Ardeidae (namely, raising the share of mixotrophic phytoflagellates and copepods in plankton species composition) are leveled out. The main role in this process belongs to decomposition of immersed vegetation in the coastal zone, development of littoral macrophytes, and trophic relationships between algae and invertebrates. However, increase in atmospheric precipitation leads to increase in copepods abundance, which seems to be related to fast and intensive inflow of nitrogen-rich products of birds' vital activity. Due to this, during the whole period of observations, the following tendencies are revealed in biochemical composition of seston, plankton, and fish fry in the vicinity of the bird colony: 1) concentrations of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus and their ratios turn out to be auspicious for predominance of diatoms and mixotrophic phytoflagellates, rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DSA); 2) the abundance of phytoplankton, rich in polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (PEFA), favors propagation of those planktonic crustaceans which contain significantly more DSA and are more valuable food items for fish; 3) predominance of zooplankters, rich in PEFA, leads to higher concentration of PEFA in fry fish tissues, which, in certain periods, turns out to be advantageous for successful development and growth of dominant species of fish fry, such as roach, bream, white bream, and perch, by comparison with the test site.

mesocosms -- nutrients -- chlorophyll -- biomass of crustaceans -- species -- structure of zooplankton -- food quality
Аннотация: It has been shown that the main drivers of the dynamics of cladoceran and copepod abundances can be predators (fish), the quantity and/or quality of food in terms of the contents of eicosapentaenoic acid, phosphorus and nitrogen in the seston under eutrophic conditions. In experimental mesocosms under eutrophic conditions, we found that, fish did not affect the quantity and quality of food resources for crustaceans. In the second half of experiments, however, dominance shifted from copepods to cladocerans. This was due to the improvement of the food quality for cladocerans in terms of the carbon-to-phosphorus ratio in the seston rather than to fish predation. Under eutrophic conditions, fish reduced the biomass of both cladocerans and copepods without changing the ratio between them.
