hot particles -- Yenisei River -- floodplain soils and sediments -- plutonium complex -- cesium and plutonium isotopes -- (241)Am -- dating of particles
Аннотация: The purpose of this study was to investigate radionuclide composition of the hot particles found in the floodplain of the Yenisei River and to discuss their possible Sources. Since 1995, researchers of the Institute of Biophysics have found a considerable number of hot particles that contain up to 29,000 kBq/particle of (137)Cs in the Yenisei River floodplain. Investigations of the particles in Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, and Novosibirsk have confirmed their reactor origin and made it possible to roughly estimate their age. Based oil comparative analysis of (137)Cs/(134)Cs ratios, all the particles can be divided into two or three major groups, suggesting that over the 50-year period of the MCC operation, there have been two or three emergency situations at the MCC reactors, with nuclear fuel microparticles released into the Yenisei. Microparticles containing up to 36 Bq/particle of (241)Am were detected in soil and sediment samples collected at the Yenisei River. In some of these particles the (137)Cs/(241)Am ratio is high but in the others - low. It remains unknown how these particles have been formed. However, these microparticles Occur in floodplain soils and sediments very frequently and, thus, can be considered to be the main form in which radionuclides are present in the Yenisei River floodplain. The presence of a large number of hot particles of different origin in the floodplain of the Yenisei River from the MCC production area down to the town of Yeniseisk (and, probably, farther downstream) is a source of potential health hazard to people.

Кл.слова (ненормированные):
Phytoflagellates -- Meromictic lake -- Simulation modeling -- Lake Shira
Аннотация: Using mathematical modeling methods, the work investigates possible existence of a phytoflagellate population in the ecosystem of a stratified lake (Lake Shira, Khakasia, Russia). Until this study was carried out, no phytoflagellate population had been detected in the lake, although there had been indirect evidence of the possible presence of a cryptomonad population in this water body. To answer the question if this population may be present in this water body, as the first step of investigation, a mathematical model was developed describing the microorganism biomass dynamics and phytoflagellate relationship with the lake food web. The calculations showed that cryptophytic algae were abundant in the water column layers above the lake chemocline at the beginning of summer but showed low biomass concentrations during other periods of time. In the summer following the construction of the model, samples were collected from Lake Shira, as the next step of the study. A cryptophytic algae population was found in the water column, and the pattern of its distribution in the ecosystem was similar to that predicted by the model. In addition to that, we studied theoretically possible reasons for the early summer development of the population in the deep water layers and found that it was the result of the mixotrophic feeding strategy of cryptomonads and trophic interactions in the food web. The study shows that preliminary modeling of the locational and temporal distribution of populations whose presence in the ecosystem is only suggested by indirect evidence may be useful as a tool for searching for the species in natural ecosystems and as an approach enabling a more accurate description of the food web structure of a water body. meromictic lake -- weather -- thermal stratification -- seston -- nutrients -- stoichiometric ratios
Аннотация: Depths of thermocline and the redox zone, concentrations of dissolved and suspended carbon, and nitrogen and phosphorus in seston were measured in the pelagial of the saline meromictic Lake Shira (southern Siberia) in different years (2007-2011); the relationship of the values for those parameters with air-temperature variations was assessed. Positive correlations between both air temperatures in the previous year and the depth of the redox zone in winter and air temperature in April and the thermocline depth in summer were revealed. In the mixolimnion, the ratio of total nitrogen to total phosphorus almost always exceeded the Redfield ratio (16: 1); seston deficiency both in nitrogen and phosphorus was monitored in different seasons and at various depths. The amount of seston in the mixolimnion in summer almost doubled the amount of seston in winter and was directly related with the depth of the thermocline. In the monimolimnion, seston was rich in nitrogen and phosphorus. The amount of seston in the monimolimnion varied in different years and depended both on the air temperature in the previous year and the size of the zone.
