Аннотация: The heat capacity of NaNb1_xTaxO3 solid solutions was measured in the temperature range 100 to 770 K. The step-like change of phase transition temperature is observed in the T-x phase diagram at concentration x = 0.55. The obtained results are in a good agreement with the data of dielectric studies. The 23Na MAS NMR spectra were obtained at Larmor frequency 79.35 MHz using a Bruker AVANCE 300 spectrometer. The quadru-polar coupling constant, (CQ=e2qQ/h) and asymmetry parameter (n) were determined by computer fitting of the NMR line shape using the DMFit software. The found parameters show that solid solution structure is NaTa03-based at 0.7<X ?1 and NaNbO3-based at 0?x?0.5. The spectra in the intermediate region (0.5<x?0.7) can be described at a reasonable accuracy when assuming the coexistence of NaTaO3 and NaNbO3 structures. Аннотация: The temperature dependences of the heat capacity, dielectric properties, and response to an external pressure and an electric field for the (NH4)(2)MoO2F4 oxyfluoride (space group Cmcm, Z = 4) have been studied. A comparative analysis of the data on the entropy of phase transitions, p-T phase diagrams, permittivity, and anomalous heat capacity in combination with the results of previous studies of the related compounds (NH4)(2)WO2F4 and (ND4)(2)WO2F4 has made it possible to establish that both [MO2F4](2-) anions and ammonium groups play a substantial role in the mechanism and nature of the structural transformations.

Аннотация: We report the influence of anisotropy and texture on elasto(ElCE)- and baro(BCE)-caloric effects in single-crystal and ceramic (NH4)2SO4. Inverse extensive and intensive ElCE in ceramics, (ΔSElCE)cer = 87 J/kg·K; ΔTAD = - 11.6 K), as well as in a single crystal along the ferroelectric axis a, (ΔSElCE)a = 115 J/kg·K; (ΔTAD)a = - 16 K, significantly exceed BCE, ΔSBCE = 75 J/kg·K; ΔTAD = - 9.8 K, even at low pressure ~ 0.3 GPa. Caloric parameters of ammonium sulphate are comparable with those for promising solid-state refrigerants.

Аннотация: The possibility of cation substitution in pyroxenes allows the investigation the gradual change of structural and magnetic properties under doping in these compounds. Here, Na0.5Li0.5FeGe2O6 was prepared by the standard solid-phase reaction method and has been investigated using X-ray and neutron powder diffraction, and further characterized by magnetic and calorimetric measurements. The crystal structure of Na0.5Li0.5FeGe2O6 at 300 K is monoclinic C2/c (a=10.0333(1), b=8.8136(1), c=5.5295(9) Å, β=108.921(1)°). Calorimetric investigations indicate a displacive first order phase transition at T=271±1 K which is accompanied by the appearance of superstructure reflections in the X-ray patterns. At this transition Na0.5Li0.5FeGe2O6 undergoes a space group change from C2/c to P21/c (a=9.9692(3), b=8.8545(3), c=5.4752(2) Å, β=108.494(1)°). Magnetic order has been found below the Néel temperature TN≈18 K and has been refined from neutron diffraction. The quasi-low-dimensional magnetic spin system Na0.5Li0.5FeGe2O6 exhibits a collinear antiferromagnetic structure with the space group Pa21/c and the doubling of the unit cell along the crystallographic a-axis of the pyroxene crystal (propagation vector k=(1/2, 0, 0)). The critical modes which are responsible for the phase transition from C2/c to P21/c symmetry and for the magnetic transition from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic state have been determined and their role in the transition is described. They are also the relevant mechanism driving the magnetic order in LiFeGe2O6.

Аннотация: Background: Crystal structure of rare-earth LaCoO3 cobalt oxide subjected to high energy mechanical activation has been studied. In the temperature range of 300–800 K, the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient were measured. Thermal conductivity was measured at 300–480 K. Methods: Comparative analysis of thermoelectric properties of the samples prepared by standard solid-state reaction and using high-energy mechanical activation was carried out. Findings: It was found that the experimental X-ray diffraction patterns are best described within the model that allows the coexistence of two domains in samples with the same crystal symmetry, but different lattice a and c parameters. The percentage ratio of these domains in the samples depends significantly on the size of the initial particles in the solid-state synthesis reaction and the annealing temperature. Mechanical activation and increase of synthesis temperature result in change of Seebeck coefficient sign and significant decrease of electrical resistivity. The Seebeck coefficient of non-activated samples takes positive values over the entire temperature range and decreases monotonically with increasing temperature, in contrast to mechanically activated samples exhibiting ambipolar behavior.

Аннотация: The influence of an electric field on the phase transition parameters and the electrocaloric response in ferrielectric (NH4)2SO4 was studied using a universal multifunctional adiabatic calorimeter. The very low sensitivity of the phase transition temperature to the electric field, dT0/dE ≈ 5·10-3 K/(kV/cm), was shown to be the reason for the low maximum value of the intensive electrocaloric effect, ΔTAD, at E = 11 kV/cm: direct and indirect measurements gave the values of 0.01 K and 0.05 K, respectively. However, the extensive electrocaloric response revealed by an analysis of the entropy–temperature–electric field phase diagram was relatively large, with a value of ΔSECE ≈ − 19 J/kg K, due to the significant contribution of a jump in the excess entropy to the total value, δS0/ΔS0 ~ 0.37. An additional irreversible increase in temperature under the electric field was associated with the Joule effect and indicated a significant electrical conductivity of ammonium sulphate.

Аннотация: Heat capacity, thermal dilatation, sensitivity to pressure and permittivity of NH4HSO4 embedded into glass matrices with a pore size of 320 nm and 46 nm were studied. Large difference in the thermal expansion of both glass and ferroelectric leads to a "clamped" state of NH4HSO4 in nanocomposites and to the phase transition temperatures change. The restricted geometry does not effect on the order of successive transformations in NH4HSO4 but is accompanied by a significant reduction in entropy of phase transitions. The behavior of DTA-signal and permittivity show the expansion of the temperature range of the ferroelectric phase under hydrostatic pressure.

Аннотация: The (ND4)3VOF5 crystal was grown with a high degree of deuteration (D≈92%). Structural and thermophysical studies have been carried out, the parameters of phase transitions have been determined. It was found that the deuteration of the ammonium cation in (NH4)3VOF5 led to a change in the chemical pressure, which was accompanied by an increase in the unit cell volume and an increase in the phase transition temperatures. The baric coefficients dTi/dp were determined and the phase T−p diagram (ND4)3VOF5 was constructed. A decrease in the temperature stability of the initial cubic phase Fm3¯m in (ND4)3VOF5, as well as a wedging out of the intermediate monoclinic phase at a lower pressure as compared to (NH4)3VOF5, was found.

Аннотация: A study of heat capacity, thermal dilatation, susceptibility to hydrostatic pressure, permittivity and polarization loops was carried out on NH4HSO4–porous glass nanocomposites (AHS + PG) as well as empty glass matrices. The formation of dendrite clusters of AHS with a size, dcryst, exceeding the pore size was found. An insignificant anisotropy of thermal expansion of AHS + PG showing statistically uniform distribution of AHS with random orientations of nanocrystallites over the matrix was observed. The effect of internal and external pressures on thermal properties and permittivity was studied. At the phase transition P-1 ↔ Pc, a strongly nonlinear decrease in the entropy ΔS2 and volume strain (ΔV/V)T2 was observed with decreasing dcryst. The linear change in temperatures of both phase transitions P-1 ↔ Pc ↔ P21/c under hydrostatic pressure is accompanied by the expansion of the temperature range of existence of the ferroelectric phase Pc, while this interval narrows as dcryst decreases.

Аннотация: The study of the parameters of energy harvesting and storage in the lead-free solid solution BaTi0.86Sn0.14O3 (BTSnO) was performed. The permittivity shows the behavior similar to a diffuse phase transition with the critical exponent γ = 1.84, which is close to the value characteristic of relaxors. Large values of the recoverable energy density, Wrec=(5.8–7.0)∙104 J/m3, and the energy storage efficiency coefficient, η=(82–94) %, are implemented in a wide temperature range, 30–87°С, at a low electric field, E = 18.5 kV/cm. For the first time, the analysis of the Olsen cycle was performed using two phase diagrams: polarization – electric field and entropy – temperature. A fairly good agreement was found between the values of the energy conversion density, ND ≈ 0.15 J/cm3, which was determined using two approaches. A universal parameter is proposed for comparing the energy harvesting density for the materials studied in different ranges of temperature and electric fields.

Аннотация: The direct and indirect measurements of intensive electrocaloric effect in a triglycine sulfate ferroelectric crystal are performed under equilibrium and nonequilibrium thermodynamic conditions implemented in the adiabatic calorimeter. The effect of the electric field parameters (frequency, profile, and strength) on the value of the effect and degree of its reversibility are studied. The difference between the temperature variation values in a switched-on and switched-off dc field under quasi-isothermal conditions is established. The low-frequency periodic electric field induces the temperature gradient along the electrocaloric element and heat flux from its free end to the thermostated base. A significant excess of the field switching-off rate over the switching-on rate leads to a noticeable intensification of the cooling effect.

Аннотация: The paper presents the results of experimental measurements of constitutive and electrophysical properties in hydroxylated endohedral metallofullerene with gadolinium sample. We extracted endohedral metallofullerene from carbon condensate, synthesized in high-frequency arc discharge plasma. Later hydroxyl groups were added. Via methods of infrared and x-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy, it was established that the molecules of hydroxylated endohedral metallofullerene have the Gd@C82Ox(OH)y, x + y=(40–42) composition. The method of measuring the electrical impedance in the frequency range from 100 Hz to 100 MHz shows that the resulting hydroxylated fullerene is an ion conductor. The measured frequency dependences of the dielectric permittivity and conductivity of hydroxylated fullerene are explained based on the assumption of an inhomogeneous distribution of electric charges in the material volume. Dielectric-hysteresis loops in the frequency range of 25 Hz–1 MHz and temperature range of 80–300 K, and volt-ampere characteristics were measured. The obtained results imply the appearance of residual polarization induced by the electric field in hydroxylated fullerene. However, the constant dipole moment is absent. © 2019

Аннотация: The heat capacity of a single crystal of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3 (PMN) in an electric filed with E = 3 kV/cm applied along the [111] direction has been measured using adiabatic calorimetry over the temperature range 170-250 K. Anomalies in C-P have been found, which correspond to a field-induced phase transition from a relaxor to a ferroelectric state at 225 K under field cooling conditions or at 235-240 K on the subsequent field heating. The field-induced ferroelectric phase persists in a metastable state at low temperatures and is destroyed on zero-field heating at 210 K. The small entropy change Delta S approximate to 0.028R in the field-induced phase transition suggests an insignificant change in the volume fraction of existing polar nanoregions.
