Аннотация: A setup and a technique for optical measurements intended for evaluating the content of unbound compounds in an epoxy polymer are described. The principle of operation of the setup is based on measurements of the spectra of absorption of infrared (IR) radiation by condensed products of evaporation of unbound components. The needed mass of a sample is about 0.01 g. The results of measurements of the IR radiation absorption as a function of the concentrations of the mixture components-ED-22 epoxy resin, isomethyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride (hardener), and a cure promoter (N integral D-606/2)-are presented. The relative content of chemically unbound components in the structure of a polymer matrix is evaluated as a function of the hardener concentration, thus allowing determination of the stoichiometric ratio of the initial components of an epoxy mixture. The obtained results are compared to those obtained by the extraction method.

Аннотация: This paper reports studies of thin films of nickel oxide obtained by the extraction–pyrolysis method on glass and quartz substrates at temperatures of 380–600°C. The films have been characterized by atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It is shown that amorphous and crystalline nickel oxide films are formed on the glass. The grain size depends on the annealing temperature, while increased annealing temperatures lead to recrystallization and a decrease in the grain size in NiO films from 130 to 35 nm.

Аннотация: PMMA opal crystal was prepared by a simple hybrid method, which includes sedimentation, meniscus formation and evaporation. We investigated three surfaces of this crystal by angle-resolved reflective light spectroscopy and SEM study. The angle-resolved reflective measurements were carried out in the 400–1100 nm range. We have determined the high-quality ordered surface of the crystal region. Narrow particle size distribution of the surface has been revealed. The average particle diameter obtained with SEM was nearly 361 nm. The most interesting result was that reflectivity of the surface turned out up to 98% at normal light incidence. Using a fit of dependences of the maximum reflectivity wavelength from an angle based on the Bragg–Snell law, the wavelength of maximum 0° reflectivity, the particle diameter and the fill factor have been determined. For the best surface maximum reflectivity wavelength of a 0° angle was estimated to be 869 nm. The particle diameter and fill factor were calculated as 372 nm and 0.8715, respectively. The diameter obtained by fitting is in excellent agreement with the particle diameter obtained with SEM. The reflectivity maximum is assumed to increase significantly when increasing the fill factor. We believe that using our simple approach to manufacture PMMA opal crystals will significantly increase the fabrication of high-quality photonic crystal templates and thin films

Аннотация: This work is devoted to the complex research on temperature phase transitions in a CsScF4 crystal. The crystal structure was solved and refined at different temperatures by using the Rietveld method. Structural phase transitions were investigated by using the following spectroscopic methods, some of them for the first time: Brillouin spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, IR absorption spectroscopy and NMR. The symmetry analysis of the Brillouin zone center of all phases is presented. The vibrational spectra of the crystal in three phases have been calculated. The structural phase transition mechanism was determined. The transitions at T-1 = 475 K and T-2 = 317.5 K are of displacement type. The Raman soft modes have been associated with rotations of the ScF6 octahedral group.

Аннотация: Indium-oxide films are synthesized by the autowave-oxidation reaction. It is shown that, upon exposure to optical radiation, the resistance of the films sharply decreases and the maximal relative change in the resistance is 52% at room temperature. Two resistance relaxation rates after termination of the irradiation, 15 Omega s(-1) during the first 30 s and 7 Omega s(-1) over the remaining time, are determined. The data of infrared spectroscopy of the films show that exposure to optical radiation induces a 2.4% decrease in the transmittance at a wavelength of 6.3 mu m. It is found that, after termination of the irradiation, the transmittance gradually increases with a rate of 0.006% s(-1). It is suggested that photoreduction is the dominant mechanism responsible for changes in the electrical and optical properties of the In2O3 films.

Аннотация: The results of structural phase transitions mechanisms study in K3WO3F3oxyfluoride are represented by different experimental and theoretical methods. The structural phase transition anomalies at T1=452 K and T2=414 K of Raman and IR spectra have been analyzed. Using vibrational spectroscopy methods, the NMR-experiment has been done to clarify the nature of found phase transitions: displacive types or order-disorder types. The model of “disordered” crystal was proposed, and the results of lattice dynamics calculation in frameworks of the generalized Gordon–Kim method of ordered (R3) and “disordered” crystals were compared. The high pressure phases were studied by the Raman technique too.

Аннотация: Flexible film broadband absorber based on diamond-graphite mixture and polyethylene was fabricated by hot pressing. The film thickness of the absorber was 90 μm. We have measured angular reflectivity, diffusional reflectivity and transmittance in the range 85–8000 cm−1 (117–1.25 μm) in order to determine the absorption. It was shown that room temperature pressing of mesh print with 250 μm step significantly reduces reflectivity of the absorber. The absorption was over 0.85 in the range 85–320 cm−1 (117–31.25 μm) and 0.98 in the range 320–8000 cm−1 (31.25–1.25 μm). We believe that the designed and manufactured absorber might become a promising material for optical devices where high broadband absorption and flexibility are required.

Аннотация: Comparative investigations of infrared absorption spectra of ion-molecular crystals of the ammonium-containing oxyfluorides (NH(4))(3)WO(3)F(3) and (NH(4))(3)MoO(3)F(3) have been performed. It has been found that the parameters of the vibrational spectra exhibit anomalies in the ranges of internal vibrations of the MeO(3)F(3) octahedral groups and ammonium ions near the phase transition temperatures. A comparative analysis of the IR spectra allows us to affirm that the studied phase transition in (NH(4))(3)WO(3)F(3) is primarily associated with the ordering of octahedral groups, whereas in (NH(4))(3)MoO(3)F(3), it is mainly due to the ordering of ammonium groups and the distortion of ammonium ions by the crystal environment.

Аннотация: The infrared absorption spectra of the oxyfluoride Rb2KMoO3F3 have been measured in the frequency range corresponding to stretching vibrations of the Mo-O anion octahedron with the purpose of clarifying their role in the phase transition. A semi-empirical calculation of two possible configurations of quasioctahedral MoO3F3 groups has been performed. The results of the investigations have demonstrated that some octahedra in the crystal structure change the local symmetry from C (3v) to C (2v) due to the phase transition (T = 197 K).

Аннотация: Infrared absorption spectra of a Nd0.5Ho0.5Fe3(BO3)4 crystal in the spectral range of 30–1700 cm–1 have been measured at temperatures from 6 to 300 K. The experimental spectra have been analyzed based on the semiempirical calculation of the lattice dynamics and the analysis of correlation diagrams of borate complexes. No changes associated with structural phase transitions have been detected in the temperature range of measurements; the effect of magnetic ordering on the infrared absorption spectra has not been observed.

Аннотация: Infrared (IR) absorption spectra of HoFe3(BO3)4 crystal have been obtained in spectral range 30–7000 cm−1 at temperatures from 4 to 423 K. Vibrational frequencies have been simulated with ‘Lady’ software package both for high-temperature and low-temperature phases. The experimental spectra have been analyzed on the basis of calculated data, and interpreted within the framework of internal vibrations of ionic complexes of HoFe3(BO3)4 crystal lattice. The spectral range under study was observed to have no Davydov splitting of internal vibrational modes due to unit cell multiplication. No effects of magnetic ordering on the IR spectra of the crystal under study were observed in the low-temperature range.

Аннотация: Series of high-quality spherical poly(methyl methacrylate) particles with a polydispersity less than 5% are prepared by chain-growth emulsifier-free controlled radical emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate in water. The average diameters in the series varied from 237 nm to 447 nm. The physico-chemical properties of obtained submicrospheres can be varied to make them more stable and stronger by a modified classical synthesis technology whereby 4-10 vol.% of dispersion medium is replaced by acetone. 2D and 3D photonic crystal structures, opals, are prepared from poly(methyl methacrylate) submicrospheres. The crystal structure of the opals is studied by IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. According to the spectroscopic data, the poly(methyl methacrylate) particles contain significant amounts of water whose evaporation leads to the shrinkage of the spheres. The stereoregularity of the synthesized polymer is studied, the glass-transition temperatures of obtained samples are determined.

Аннотация: Morphological parameters, reflection spectra, IR absorption spectra, and glass transition temperatures of submicron-sized spheres of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) formed in a water-acetone dispersion medium were studied in comparison with similar spheres obtained in distilled water. Dependence of a shrinkage degree of the submicrospheres on the concentration of acetone in water is studied. Features of the formation of periodic structures based on the water-acetone dispersions of PMMA in four different ways are considered. 2D (photonic crystal films) and 3D (artificial and inverse opals) resonance structures were obtained.

Аннотация: Gadolinium manganese sulfide solid solutions are investigated by infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Longitudinal optical–transverse optical splitting of the manganese–sulfur bond vibration is observed in the vibrational spectra. The Raman spectra contain modes that are prohibited in the crystal structure of the alpha phase of manganese sulfide, which are associated with activation of the phonons from both the Brillouin zone center and its X and L points. The concentration dependence of transverse optical and longitudinal optical modes’ frequencies is calculated within the frame of the modified random-element-isodisplacement model, being in good agreement with the experimental results. Both theory and experiment show that the solid solution under study exhibits a “one-mode” behavior. © 2017 Taylor & Francis.

Аннотация: Sulfides MeхMn1-хS (Me = 3d metal or Me = Re) are promising materials for the study of systems with metal-insulator phase transitions. Such solid solutions provide good possibility for studying the influence of cation-substitution-induced electron doping onto the optical properties of the materials. We investigated the Raman and IR spectra of new solid solution GdxMn1-xS for the three compositions with x = 0.04, 0.1 and 0.2. The program package LADY was used to perform lattice dynamics simulation of GdxMn1-xS crystals. The best agreement between experimental values of atomic vibrations and the calculated ones was obtained using the Rigid Ion Model. Raman spectra were excited by an argon ion laser (514.5 nm) with 5 mW output power. IR spectra for the compositions x = 0.1 and 0.2 show two absorption peaks, which are consistent with the simulated TO and LO modes. Raman spectrum for all tested compounds should be absent in case of ideal Fm3m structure. However, experimental Raman spectrum is found to exhibit several wellobservable lines in the frequency range from 50 to 700 cm-1 . The high-frequency part of the spectrum (above 500 cm-1 ) contains lines apparently due to the vibration of the molecular groups Mn2O3 and Mn3O4 formed under exposure of samples by laser radiation. The region 400-500 cm-1 in the Raman spectra is presented by peaks related to the vibrations of sulfur atoms in α - S8 phase [1]. Due to the violation of the translational symmetry, a manifestation of phonons from G, X, L, and W points of Brillouin zone is possible. On the basis of the calculations of lattice dynamics and dispersion curves for all phonon branches in Brillouin zone points noted above, experimental Raman lines were completely assigned. Vibrational spectra for the composition x = 0.04 are markedly different from those for compositions x = 0.1 and 0.2, which indicates that the compound GdxMn1-xS with x = 0.04 has differing structure; probably, this sample contains two phases [2].

Аннотация: The controlled vacuum-arc synthesis of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) nanoparticles is considered, which makes it possible to regulate the percentage ratio of the monoclinic and tetragonal phases. The samples were characterized using XRD analysis, SEM, HRTEM analysis, FT-IR analysis, TG/DTA analysis and EPR spectroscopy. It has been established that the formation of the tetragonal phase is associated with the formation of a large number of oxygen vacancies formed due to high-speed quenching of nanoparticles. Reducing the operating gas pressure in a vacuum chamber from 180 Pa to 30 Pa makes it possible to obtain nanoparticles up to 2 nm in size. The synthesized ZrO2 nanoparticles do not contain foreign impurities and when heated, the weight loss is up to 7 %. The process of local resistive switching in the contact of an atomic force microscope (AFM) probe to a nanostructured ZrO(2-x) layer on a conducting substrate has been studied. Cyclic current-voltage characteristics demonstrate the existence of stable states of high and low resistance, switched by changing the polarity of the applied voltage. The coexistence of the m- and t-ZrO2 phases (and the resulting oxygen nonstoichiometry in the interboundary regions) provides conditions for the formation/destruction of a filament from oxygen vacancies, which determine the conductivity of the dielectric in the LRS state.
