Аннотация: Data on the elastic properties of single crystals have increased dramatically since Professor Simmons completed his first compilation in 1965. While this book is a consolidation of his earlier work, it has been extensively updated and revised to include new material and references, is far more complete, and is presented in a more useful form. This is actually a handbook consisting of computer printout in tabular format. It presents data on the elastic properties of single crystals collected from the literature through mid-1970 and the elastic properties of isotropic aggregates which are calculated according to the schemes of Voigt and Reuss for all materials, and Hashin and Shtrikman for materials with cubic symmetry. The tables include about 3000 determinations. At present it is impossible to calculate the elastic properties of a random, macroscopically isotropic aggregate of crystals from the single crystal elastic constants, but bounds may be obtained for the aggregate properties from the single crystal data have been reported. Hashin and Shtrikman have shown that the Voigt and Reuss bounds could be improved, and they have developed expressions for the corresponding bounds of aggregates of cubic crystals. In this book all four bounds (Voigt, hashin, Shtrikman, and Reuss) are tabulated for cubic materials, while Voigt and Reuss bounds only are tabulated for non-cubic materials. The elastic properties of aggregates are those in common use and include Young's modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, bulk modulus, compressibility, velocity of compressional waves, and the velocity of shear waves. Although any two of these properties suffice to uniquely characterize a given material, all are tabulated because different sets are best suited for different uses.

Аннотация: Bulk composites Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7+NiTiO3 and Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7+MgTiO3 with insulator volume content 7.5% and 15% modelling a network of Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor (S-I-S) junctions have been prepared. The ?(T) dependences of composites HTSC+MgTiO3 are described well by the mechanism of Thermally Activated Phase Slippage (TAPS). The anomalous behavior of resistivity ?(T) of HTSC+NiTiO3 composites manifesting as a kink on ?(T) curves at some temperature Tm have been observed. In the temperature range Tm < T < TC the dissipation is Ohmic while below Tm the CVCs are strongly non-linear. This peculiarity is interpreted as arisen owing to Abrikosov vortices flow.

Аннотация: Temperature measurements of current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of the (Y, Lu)1Ba2Cu3O7-delta high-temperature superconductor have been performed. Analysis of the data shows that CVC of HTSC is mainly formed by two mechanisms: the creep of the Abrikosov vortices inside the crystallites and the Andreev reflection of the carriers within the metal character boundary between the crystallites.

Аннотация: In recent years interest has been shown in crystals with the scheelite structure (point symmetry group 4/m) as promising materials for acoustooptic devices. However, nearly all the work done so far has been on the NaBi(MoO4)2 and PbMoO4 crystals. In this paper the authors give the results of a study of the elastic and acoustooptic properties of NaBi(WO4)2 and LiBi(MoO4)2 crystals from a series of isomorphic compounds with the scheelite structure carried out in order to determine the extent of the changes in the elastic and acoustooptic properties of this series of crystals when the structural elements are changed.

Аннотация: A variety of the known structures of perovskite-like crystals including cation- and anion-deficient phases were considered as the intergrowth systems of slabs containing n-layers (n = 1,2, 3,...infinity) of corner-linked octahedra BX6, pyramids EX5 or square-planar nets BX4 (B-cation, X- anion) linked by intermediate blocks of different types.([1- 3]) Some new structural types and new representatives of ferroelectrics, ferroelastics and HTSC's can be constructed on this basis. The prognosis of new possible representatives in Ruddlesden-Popper's family is discussed.A variety of the known structures of perovskite-like crystals including cation- and anion-deficient phases were considered as the intergrowth systems of slabs containing n-layers (n = 1, 2, 3, . . . ?) of corner-linked octahedra BX6, pyramids BX5 or square-planar nets BX4 (B-cation, X-anion) linked by intermediate blocks of different types.[1-3] Some new structural types and new representatives of ferroelectrics, ferroelastics and HTSC's can be constructed on this basis. Аннотация: The structures of the well-known perovskite-like crystals, including stoichiometric and both cation- and anion-dencient compounds, are considered as intergrowth systems of stacks consisting either of n layers (n = 1 - ?) connected via the vertices of the BX6 octahedra or of combinations of layers of octahedra, BX5 pyramids, and planar networks of BX4 squares with intermediate block layers of various types. The classification of stacks and block layers in these structures is suggested. Based on this classification, the known structure types are considered and new structure types, including various possible superconductor structures, are predicted.

Аннотация: Structures of the known perovskite-like crystals are considered as the systems of slabs containing n layers (n = 1, 2,..., infinity) vertices-linked octahedra BX6, pyramids BX5 or planar square nets BX4 (B - cation, X - anion) intergrowing with blocks of different types. Using these fragments whole variety of stoichiometric, cation-and anion-deficient structures can be constructed and many new perovskite-like layered crystals including ferroelectrics, ferroelastics and HTSC's may be found.

Аннотация: The causes of noninvariance of the elastic modulus matrix determinant for cubic crystals were studied. It was shown that modified elastic constant matrices comply with the symmetry requirements. The higher invariants of such matrices were used to evaluate the average values of elastic properties of isotropic polycrystals. The means of the elastic constants were calculated for a series of monomineral rocks composed of homogeneous crystallites of various syngonies and were compared with results of other averaging methods and with available experimental data.
