Аннотация: The process of dendritic crystallization of Co and Fe films is investigated. Electron-diffraction methods show that fractal growth of dendrites in Co and Fe films proceeds by multiple twinning of the elements of a nanostructure consisting of different clusters with close-packing. The formation of superstructures is explained by a shell model of a cluster structure forming nanocrystallites. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: The importance of studying Fe-Mn-C alloys is related to their wide use as constructional materials in mechanical engineering. In this work an effort has been made to elucidate the physical origin of the magnetization in austenitic steels by calculating the electronic structure of grain boundaries. To theoretically investigate the magnetic properties of a crystal of ferromagnetic bcc iron, the wave functions of the iron atom calculated in view of the spin polarization of a core by the Hartree-Fock method with local exchange-correlation potentials have been used as base functions. This has made it possible to optimize the choice of a zero approximation for the description of the electronic states of ferromagnetic iron and to attain good agreement with the experimental values of the magnetic moment (A mu(theor) = 2.23A mu(B), A mu(exp) = 2.218A mu(B)), of the exchange splitting of the crystal term P-4 (Delta(theor) = Delta(exp) = 0.112 Ry), and of the cross-sections of the Fermi surface. A similar approach has been used to investigate the magnetic states of clusters (nanoclusters) based on the method of scattered waves. The approach developed for clusters of the alloy under investigation makes it possible to calculate the alloy magnetic properties in relation to the cluster size for a varied lattice parameter.

Аннотация: Emergence of ferromagnetism and an increase in the electrical conductance of BeTiO3 beryllium ceramic with the perovskite structure were discovered experimentally. Аннотация: The crystal structure of Tb(30)Fe(70) and Co(50)Pd(50) nanocrystalline films with strong magnetic anisotropy perpendicular to the film plane (K(perpendicular to) similar to 10(6) erg/cm(3)) is investigated using electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. All the studied films in the initial nanocrystalline phase undergo an explosive crystallization with the formation of dendrite structures. It is demonstrated that, after crystallization, the Tb-Fe and Co-Pd films exhibit a tetrahedrally close-packed atomic structure that has no analogs among these materials in the equilibrium state. The internal stresses in the films under investigation are estimated from an analysis of the bend extinction contours in the electron microscope images. The inference is made that strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy can be associated with magnetostriction anisotropy due to the specific features of the film structure. An explanation of the mechanism and kinetics of explosive crystallization in the Fe2Tb and CoPd films is proposed in the framework of the shear transformation zone theory. Аннотация: The correlation of the atomic-order structure and the energy density of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Co50Pd50 films is investigated. Structural models for nanocrystalline Co50Pd50 films are proposed. It is shown that processes of structural self-organization in the films form nontrivial atomic-order structures. These structures can exist owing to high elastic stresses, which apparently ensure the emergence of strong magnetic anisotropy (K-perpendicular to similar to 10(6) erg/cm(3)). Аннотация: The self-organization of an atomic structure in Tb30Fe70 and Co50Pd50 films possessing of high values of the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) constant (K perpendicular to similar to 10(6) erg/cm(3)) is investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The crystallization of the films is realized in an explosive way with formation of different dissipative structures from the initial nanocrystalline state. In present work the structural model of a thin film in mezzo-scale and the correlation of a structure with magnetic properties are discussed.
