Аннотация: Single-crystal plates of different sections of the (NH4)(3)ScF6 crystal have been investigated by polarization-optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction over a wide temperature range, including the temperatures of two known phase transitions and the third transition found recently. It is established that the symmetry of phases changes in the following sequence: O-h(5) - Fm3m (Z = 4) ↔ C-2h(5) - P12(1)/n1 (Z = 2)↔ C-2h(3) -I12/m1 (Z = 16) ↔ C-i(1) - I (l) over bar (Z = 16). Аннотация: Structural phase transitions in RbxK1-xLiSO4 mixed crystals (with x varying from 0 to 1) have been studied from the melting point to liquid-nitrogen temperature. Calorimetric (DTA and DSM) data, birefringence and optical polarization measurements were used to construct the full phase (T-x) diagram. It has been established that crystals of most compositions (x less than or equal to 0.95) grow in the hexagonal-trigonal KLiSO4 structure. Replacement of K by the larger Rb atom results in a considerable increase of the region of existence of the P31c phase and expulsion of the high-temperature hexagonal phase. Аннотация: Single crystals of KPb2Cl5, RbPb2Cl5, and RbPb2Br5 are grown and studied using optical polarization methods. The heat capacity of the crystals is investigated by differential scanning microcalorimetry, and the birefringence and the angle of rotation of the optical indicatrix are measured. The measurements are performed in the temperature range 270-640K. It is found that KPb2Cl5 undergoes a first-order ferroelastic phase transition at T-0 up arrow=530K, T-0 down arrow=528K, and Delta H=1000 +/- 200 J/mol. The transition is accompanied by twinning and a change in symmetry mmm reversible arrow P2(1)/c. The RbPb2Cl5 crystal remains monoclinic up to the melting temperature. The RbPb2Br5 compound belongs to the I4/mcm tetragonal modification and does not undergo structural transformations.

Аннотация: Solid solutions in the Cs-x(NH4)(1 - x)LiSO4 (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.35) system are grown and investigated. The birefringence (n(a) - n(b)) and the heat capacity are measured in the temperature range 100-530 K. The (x-T) phase diagram is constructed. It is demonstrated that the substitution of cesium for ammonium in the NH4LiSO4 crystal affects the transition temperatures in such a way that the region of the ferroelectric phase increases and the ferroelastic phase disappears at x 0.22. The character of the high-temperature transition remains unchanged (2beta = 0.24 +/- 0.01 for all compositions), but the birefringence anomaly and enthalpy decrease. As the concentration x increases, the low-temperature transition becomes more similar to a first-order transition: the birefringence jump deltan and the temperature hysteresis DeltaT increase. Аннотация: Careful calorimetric and polarization optical studies of a metastable cubic modification of a CsLiCrO4 crystal (space group (F43m)) are performed. Anomalies of the heat capacity indicative of structural distortions at 92.4 and 69.1 K were revealed, and the values of the thermodynamic parameters of the phase transitions were determined. The crystal twinning in the intermediate phase was studied. A comparative analysis of the phase transitions occurring in a series of ALiMO(4) crystals (A=NH4, Cs; M=S, Cr, Mo, W) was performed. First studies of the monotropic structural transformation F43m - Pmcn and the enantiotropic phase transition Pmcn reversible arrow P112(1)/n were carried out using scanning calorimetry, and the thermodynamic parameters of these transitions were determined.

Аннотация: Single crystals of K (x) Rb1 - x Pb2Br5 solid solutions have been grown and investigated using X-ray diffraction and polarized light microscopy in the temperature range 270-640 K. The regions of existence of the tetragonal (I4/mcm) and monoclinic (P2(1)/c) phases have been determined. It has been demonstrated that the partial introduction of rubidium into KPb2Br5 leads to an increase in the temperature of the ferroelastic phase transition (P2(1)/ca dagger"mmm), so that it approaches the melting temperature. In the solid solutions with x a parts per thousand 0.4-0.5, the temperature region of existence of the orthorhombic phase is narrowed to a parts per thousand 1-2 K. It has been revealed that an increase in the potassium content in the material results in a considerable increase in the incorporation coefficient of Er3+ ions.

Аннотация: (NH4)(3)VO2F4 crystals were grown, and polarization-optical studies and measurements of birefringence were conducted on crystal plates of various cuts over a wide temperature range. Phase transitions were detected at temperatures T-1 up arrow = 417 K, T-3 up arrow = 211 K, and T-4 up arrow = 205 K (on heating) and at T-1 down arrow = 413 K, T-3 down arrow = 210 K, and T-4 down arrow = 200 K (on cooling). The transitions are accompanied by anomalies of the birefringence and by twinning. The sequence of changes in the phase symmetry is assumed to be as follows: cubic Fm (3) over barm↔ orthorhombic Immm (I222(1)) monoclinic 112/m)↔ triclinic P (1) over bar. Near temperatures T-2 approximate to 240-250 K, an additional anomaly of the birefringence is observed, with the crystal retaining the orthorhombic symmetry.

Аннотация: Single crystals of (ND4)2MoO2F4 containing 95% deuterium were produced by repeated recrystallization of (NH4)2MoO2F4 in heavy water. The effect of deuteration on the parameters of successive phase transitions was investigated by differential scanning microcalorimetry and polarization optics. X-ray analysis of the original and distorted phases was performed. It was found that deuteration does not change the sequence of crystal phases typical for (NH4)2MoO2F4, but leads to a shift in the phase transition Cmcm > Pnma towards the tricritical point. The mechanism of phase transitions in (ND4)2MoO2F4 was associated with both the ordering and the displacement of atoms. © 2016 Elsevier Masson SAS
