Аннотация: Crystals of ludwigite Ni2.14Mn0.86BO5 were synthesized by flux growth technique. We show in the paper that it contains Mn3+ and Mn4+. A possible mechanism of the manganese valence states stabilization has been proposed. The structural and magnetic characterization of the synthesized samples has been carried out in detail. The cations composition and Mn valence states of the crystal were determined using X-ray diffraction and EXAFS technique. The comparative analysis was carried out between the studied crystal and Ni2MnBO5 synthesized previously. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out. The magnetic transition in the studied composition occurs at the 100 K that is higher than in Ni2MnBO5 although the studied composition is more disordered. The calculations of the exchange integrals in the frameworks of indirect coupling model revealed strong antiferromagnetic interactions. The several magnetic subsystems existence hypothesis was supposed. The possible magnetic structure was suggested from the energies estimation for different ordering variants.

Аннотация: Single crystals of ludwigite Cu2MnBO5 were synthesized by flux growth technique. The detailed structural and magnetic characterizations of the synthesized samples have been carried out. The cations composition of the studied crystal was determined using X-ray diffraction and EXAFS technique, the resulting composition differ from the content of the initial Mn2O3–CuO components of the flux. Magnetic susceptibility measurements and the calculations of the exchange integrals in frameworks of indirect coupling model revealed that monoclinic distortions strongly affect exchange interactions and appearance of magnetic ordering phase at the temperature T=93 K. The hypothesis of the existence of several magnetic subsystems was supposed. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: The magnetic structures of Fe3BO5 and Co3BO5 ludwigites have been studied experimentally by magnetic measurements and theoretically by the combination of the group theoretical analysis and semi empiric calculations of the superexchange interactions. The different collinear spin configurations in the triads 3-1-3 and 4-2-4 including ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic and dimer have been considered. For Fe3BO5 the antiferromagnetic state with zero magnetic moment per unit cell, showing the lowest energy, results to be the most probable magnetic ground state. The unusual magnetic structure comprising two virtually independent orthogonal subsystems is formed to avoid heavy frustrations of superexchange interactions between the 3-1-3 and 4-2-4 spin ladders. In Co3BO5 the magnetic frustrations present for the Co3+ high-spin state are quenched for a Co3+ low spin state resulting in the ferrimagnetic long-range order. The obtained results are discussed in comparison with experimental magnetic data.

Аннотация: Ludwigites is a type of oxyborates compounds with BO3 groups, which have low-dimensional elements: stairs, zigzag walls, tapes. Such structural features influence on the physical properties of the compounds and cause charge ordering, the existence of two magnetic subsystems, ordered at different temperatures in the perpendicular direction, the quasi-one-dimensional magnetism, spin-glass state. In this survey, we have summarized all known experimental and theoretical studies and analyzed the proposed by the authors mechanisms of phase transitions in the ludwigite structure oxyborates. © 2017 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Аннотация: A comparative analysis of the copper and iron ions bonds exchange energies was conducted for various variants of orderings and distributions of iron ions among crystallographic positions in ludwigite Cu2FeBO5. Analysis showed that the exchange bonds of iron ions play a key role in the formation of magnetic order. The magnetic ordering strongly depends on the distribution of iron ions among the positions. In the case when the Fe3+ is in the same position as in Fe3BO5, the most favorable magnetic structure is similar to the magnetic structure of ludwigite Fe3BO5. In other cases, the type of magnetic ordering is different.

Аннотация: Orthorhombic Me3B2O6 (Me = Co, Ni) single crystals of the kotoite family are grown from the fluxes based on a mixture of bismuth trimolybdate and sodium oxide upon spontaneous nucleation. The field and temperature dependences of magnetization of the single crystals with the magnetic field oriented along the principal crystallographic directions are obtained. Unlike Ni3B2O6, Co3B2O6 exhibits strong anisotropy of the magnetic properties. At the temperature T = 10 K, the magnetization curves of Co3B2O6 reveal an anomaly attributed to the spin-reorientation transition. Strong anisotropy of the magnetic properties of Co3B2O6 is also confirmed by the calculation of the exchange interactions within a simple indirect coupling model.
