Аннотация: The heat capacity, T-p phase diagrams, and unit cell parameters of cryolite (NH4)(3)Ti(O-2)F-5 were studied over a wide temperature range. A phase transition was found near 226 K, and its thermodynamic characteristics and their dependence on the crystallization conditions were determined. The coordinates and thermal parameters of atoms in the Fm3m phase were refined. An analysis of the electron density distribution and the transition entropy showed that the mechanism of the structural transition involves, above all, rotation of the Ti(O-2)F-5 octahedra. Possible models of disordering of tetrahedral ammonium groups are considered.

Аннотация: Crystals of a new CoBO3 compound were synthesized from a solution in melt. According to the X-ray diffraction data, CoBO3 crystallizes in the calcite structure with lattice parameters a(H) = 4.631 +/- 0.005, c(H) = 14.51 +/- 0.01 Angstrom. Measurements on SQUID and vibrating-coil magnetometers suggested that CoBO3 is a magnetically ordered crystal with a saturation magnetization of 50 emu/g in the basal plane at 4.2 K and a Neel temperature of 53 K. Аннотация: Single crystals of the new compound Cu5Bi2B4O14 are grown and its structural, magnetic, and resonant properties are investigated for the first time. It is found that the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal synthesized has a triclinic symmetry with space group P (1) over bar and the unit cell parameters a = 10.132 Angstrom, b = 9.385 Angstrom, c = 3.458 Angstrom, alpha = 105.443degrees, beta = 97.405degrees, gamma = 107.784degrees, and Z = 1. At a temperature of 24.5 K, the crystal undergoes a magnetic phase transition to the magnetically ordered state. The assumption is made that the ferrimagnetic structure of the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal consists of two ferromagnetic sublattices coupled through the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction. The unit cell of the crystal contains five copper ions, of which one ion belongs to the first sublattice and the other four ions form the second sublattice. Analysis of the resonant and magnetic static properties demonstrates that the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal exhibits an easy-axis magnetic anisotropy. The direction of the easy axis coincides with the c axis of the crystal, whereas the a and b axes are the hard magnetic axes with saturation fields approximately equal to 25 and 10 kOe, respectively. Аннотация: Strong dependence of birefringence and absorption spectra of d-d, f-f and charge transfer transitions on the direction of light beam in the plane perpendicular to the threefold crystallographic axis has been found out in trigonal crystal Nd:GdFe2.1Ga0.9(BO3)(4). X-ray measurements have shown that the crystal consists of inversion twins, whose formation is stimulated by the partial substitution of Fe by Ga. Observed violation of axial symmetry of the trigonal crystal optical properties is accounted for on the basis of assumption about stripe domain structure of the inversion twins. Аннотация: Single crystals of Pb2Fe2Ge2O9 have been grown. They were subjected to X-ray diffraction, magnetic, neutron diffraction, Mossbauer and spin resonance studies. It has been established that Pb2Fe2Ge2O9 is a weak ferromagnet with a N,el temperature T (N) = 46 K, and the exchange and spin-flop transition fields have been estimated. It has been demonstrated that the weak ferromagnetic moment is actually the result of the single-ion anisotropy axes for the magnetic moments of different magnetic sublattices being not collinear.

Аннотация: We have performed a complex investigation of the structure and the magnetic and electrical properties of a warwickite single crystal with the composition Fe1.91V0.09BO4 . The results of Mossbauer measurements at T = 300 K indicate that there exist "localized" (Fe2+, Fe3+) and "delocalized" (Fe2.5+) states distributed over two crystallographically nonequivalent positions. The results of magnetic measurements show that warwickite is a P-type ferrimagnet below T = 130 K. The material exhibits hopping conductivity involving strongly interacting electrons. The experimental data are analyzed in comparison to the properties of the initial (unsubstituted) Fe2BO4 warwickite. The entire body of data on the electric conductivity and magnetization are interpreted on a qualitative basis. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: A new method of preparation of bulk textured Bi2223 ceramics and Bi2223 + Ag composites, based on room temperature pressing of foamed precursor (Bi2223, Bi2223 + Ag) in a liquid medium, is proposed. SEM and XRD data prove a high degree of texture of the bulk samples obtained. Magnetic measurements performed in directions H parallel to c-axis and H parallel to a-b-planes of Bi2223 crystallites demonstrates anisotropy of magnetization confirming the texture of the ceramics. The materials obtained possess large diamagnetic response in the direction H parallel to a-b-planes of Bi2223 crystallites at both 77.4 and 4.2 K.

Аннотация: Crystals of SrAlF5 have been grown by the Bridgman method from the melt and by sintering of the components. Optical polarization studies and measurements of the thermal expansion and birefringence coefficients have been carried out over a wide temperature range. The electromechanical coefficient d (33) has been measured, and the optical second harmonic, dielectric hysteresis loop, and optical quality of the crystal have been assessed. X-ray diffraction investigations have been performed to identify the revealed compounds. It has been demonstrated that the SrAlF5 crystals obtained under the growth conditions chosen have I4(1)/a symmetry and do not undergo structural phase transitions in the temperature range 100-800 K. Crystalline inclusions of the AlOF oxyfluoride have been revealed in crystals grown with an AlF3 excess. The birefringence of the AlOF crystal is an order of magnitude higher than that of SrAlF5, does not depend on temperature, and has no anomalies up to 800 K.

Аннотация: The Jahn-Teller effect in the ZnGa2O4 spinel single crystal has been investigated using electron paramagnetic resonance of Cu2+ ions in the temperature range 110-560 K. It has been shown that copper ions occupy octahedral sites 16d in the ZnGa2O4 crystal with cubic symmetry O (h) (7) (Fd-3m).
