Аннотация: The structural, microstructural, and magnetic properties of aluminum-manganese oxide in the ratio Mn: Al = 1: 1 in the well-crystallized and nanoheterogeneous states have been investigated. This oxide is obtained under various thermal treatment conditions and at different partial pressures of oxygen. The composition and cation distribution of the manganese and aluminum ions in spinel sites are determined. It is shown that the studied compound is a ferrimagnet with the Curie point T (C) a parts per thousand 26 K.

Аннотация: Исследованы структурные, микроструктурные и магнитные характеристики алюмомарганцевого оксида в соотношении Mn : Al = 1: 1 в хорошо окристаллизованном и наногетерогенном состояниях, получаемого при различных условиях температурной обработки и разном парциальном давлении кислорода. Определены состав и катионное распределение ионов марганца и алюминия в позициях шпинели. Показано, что исследованное соединение является ферримагнетиком с точкой Кюри TC~ 26 K. Работа выполнена при частичной поддержке гранта РФФИ N 12-03-90839-мол\_рф\_нр, программы Министерства образования и науки РФ (соглашение N 8429).

Аннотация: A comparative study was performed of the low-temperature high-resolution absorption spectra of the Yb3+ probe in R1−xYbxAl3(BO3)4 (R = Y, Tm, Lu) crystals grown by flux technique independently in four different laboratories using different solvents. We show that the incorporation of solvent components into the crystal in the course of crystallization gives rise to spectral satellites of the Yb3+ 0(2F7/2) → 0′(2F5/2) absorption lines and assign particular satellites to the Yb3+ centers near the bismuth and molybdenum impurities (which decrease the transparency of YAB in the UV spectral range). We suggest this spectroscopic method for a rapid analysis of the quality of UV laser crystals and for improvement of growth technologies.

Аннотация: Recently discovered magnetoelectricity in the rare-earth aluminum borates RAl3(BO3)4 has attracted attention due to the large values of magnetoinduced electric polarization. We have observed for the first time the magnetoelectric polarization in TbAl3(BO3)4 exhibiting anomalous temperature dependence: an electric polarization induced by in-plane magnetic field (P||a,H⊥c axis) which is small at low temperatures (4K), remarkably increases by almost an order of magnitude at high temperatures (150–300K). The observed nonmonotonic temperature behavior of the field-induced polarization, including a change of sign at ∼65–70K, is attributed to the competition of the ground and excited crystal-field states of Tb3+ ions. Quantum theory analysis, involving the combination of analytical and numerical methods, has enabled us to quantitatively describe the observed magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of TbAl3(BO3)4.Недавно обнаруженное магнетоэлектричество в редкоземельных алюмоборатах RAl3 (BO3) 4 привлекло к себе внимание из-за больших значений магнитоиндуцированной электрической поляризации. Мы наблюдали в первый раз магнитоэлектрическую поляризацию в TbAl3 (BO3) 4, показывающую аномальную температурную зависимость: электрическая поляризация индуцируется в плоскости магнитного поля (Р | |, Н ⊥ оси с), и является небольшой при низких температурах (4K), Значительно увеличивается, почти на порядок величины, при высоких температурах (150-300 К). Наблюдаемая с изменением температуры немонотонность поляризации от поля, в том числе изменению знака на ~ 65-70 К, может быть отнесена к конкуренции между основном и возбужденном кристаллическим полем состояниями ионов ТЬ3 +. Теория квантового анализа, предполагающей сочетание аналитических и численных методов, позволила нам количественно описать наблюдаемые магнитные и магнитоэлектрические свойства TbAl3 (BO3) 4.

Аннотация: The isobaric heat capacity Cp(T) of YbAl3(BO3)4 grown by spontaneous crystallization from solution (100 − n) wt % (Bi2Mo3O12 + 2.5% B2O3 + 0.75% Li2MoO4) + n wt % YbAl3(BO3)4 is studied experimentally in the region of 344–1016 K. It is established that there are no extrema on the Cp(T) dependence, and the obtained data can be described using the Berman-Brown polynomial. The temperature variations of enthalpy and entropy are calculated from the Cp(T) dependence.

Аннотация: The magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of terbium aluminum borate are studied. It is established that temperature dependences of the magnetoelectric effects of terbium aluminum borate are analogous to those of terbium ferroborate, despite the difference in effective magnetic fields acting on rare-earth ions in these compounds. This confirms the general assumption on the decisive role of the rare-earth element in the magnetoelectric properties of borates. © 2014 Allerton Press, Inc.

Аннотация: For the first time the problem of determining real composition and structure of manganese ferrite nanoparticles dispersed borate glasses is solved using differentiating dissolution and high-resolution X-ray electron microscopy techniques. For the first time the nanosize effect of aluminum incorporation in manganese ferrite composition is experimentally shown, thus directly confirming the hypothesis of Al participation in exchange interaction between paramagnetic Fe and Mn ions as diamagnetic diluter.

Аннотация: The magnetoelectric and magnetic properties of substituted aluminum borates Ho1 − x Nd x Al3(BO3)4 have been studied experimentally and theoretically. A large magnetoelectric effect exceeding all known values in isostructural compounds except for HoAl3(BO3)4 has been found. The magnetoelectric polarization of Ho0.8Nd0.2Al3(BO3)4 and Ho0.5Nd0.5Al3(BO3)4 at T = 5 K in a field of 9 T is ΔP ab (B b ) ≈ −2630 and 1380 μC/m2, respectively. A theoretical consideration based on the crystal field model for the rare-earth ion made it possible to interpret all measured properties within the unified approach. The crystal field parameters have been determined. The temperature (3–300 K) and field (up to 9 T) dependences of the magnetization and the temperature (5–100 K) and field (up to 9 T) dependences of the polarization have been described. The studied properties of Ho1 − x Nd x Al3(BO3)4 have been compared with those of HoAl3(BO3)4 demonstrating record-high polarization values.

Аннотация: The state of iron in nanoparticles prepared by impregnating silica gel and aluminum oxide with iron(II) sulfate solutions has been investigated using Mossbauer spectroscopy. It has been revealed that the state of iron depends on the nature of the support. Iron(III) hydroxysulfate and iron(III) oxysulfate nanoparticles are formed on the surface of silica gel, and iron oxide nanoparticles are formed on the surface of aluminum oxide. An increase in the concentration of iron ions or in the size of iron-containing particles leads to hydration of the nanoparticle surface. The calcination of the samples results in the formation of E -Fe2O3 oxide in a strongly disordered or amorphous state in iron-containing particles on the surface of silica gel.

Аннотация: High-optical-quality single crystals of the TmAl3(BO3)(4) compound were synthesized from a solution in the melt. The absorption spectra in the sigma and pi polarizations for the H-3(6) - F-3(4), H-3(6) - H-3(5), H-3(6) - H-3(4), H-3(6) - F-3(3), H-3(6) - F-3(2), H-3(6) - (1)G(4), and H-3(6) - D-1(2) transitions in the Tm3+ ion were recorded at room temperature. The transition intensities were analyzed in the framework of the Judd-Ofelt theory generalized to the case of anisotropic crystals, and the following parameters of the theory were obtained: Omega(2) = 6.14 x 10(-20) cm(2), Omega(4) = 3.09 x 10(-20) cm(2), and Omega(6) = 2.04 x 10(-20) cm(2). The lifetimes and the branching ratios were determined for all possible transitions.

Аннотация: The optical absorption and luminescence spectra of single crystals of yttrium aluminum borate YAl3(BO3)(4) doped with manganese ions are measured. It is established that the optical absorption spectra of yttrium aluminum borate single crystals doped with manganese ions are determined primarily by the contribution from the Mn4+ ions. The luminescence spectra of the YAl3(BO3)(4) single crystals doped with manganese exhibit narrow lines attributed to the Mn4+ ions and an extended multiband structure which is associated primarily with the contribution from the Mn2+ ions.

Аннотация: Single crystals of yttrium aluminum borate YAl3 (BO3)(4) doped with manganese ions are studied using electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is shown that manganese ions introduced at low concentrations into the sample predominantly occupy yttrium ion sites in the crystal structure. The shape of the electron paramagnetic resonance spectrum unambiguously indicates that the valence of manganese ions in this case is equal to 2+. The parameters of the spin Hamiltonian of Mn2+, ions in the YAl3(BO3)(4) matrix are determined at room temperature. The magnitude and sign of the fine structure parameter D allow the conclusion that the YAl3(BO3)(4) single crystals doped with manganese ions have a strong crystal field at the yttrium ion sites and L easy-axis anisotropy.

Аннотация: The Zeeman effect in the F-7(6) - D-5(4) absorption band of the Tb3+ ion in the paramagnetic garnets Tb3Ga5O12 and Tb3Al5O12 was Studied. The field dependences of the Zeeman splitting of some absorption lines arc found to exhibit unusual behavior: as the magnetic field increases, the hand splitting decreases rather than increases. Symmetry analysis relates these lines to 4f - 4f electron transitions of the doublet-quasi-doublet or quasi-doublet-doublet type, for which the field dependences of the splitting differ radically from the well-known field dependences of the Zeeman splitting for quasi-doublet-quasi-doublet or quasi-doublet-singlet transitions in a longitudinal magnetic field.

Аннотация: Solid-phase reactions taking place in Al/beta-Co/MgO(001) and Al/alpha-Co/MgO(001) film systems under conditions of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) are investigated. In both systems, SHS products exhibit the single CoAl superstructure, which epitaxially grows on the MgO(001) surface in the Al/beta-Co/MgO(001) structures and has a fine-dispersed disordered structure in the Al/alpha-Co/MgO(001) films. It appears that the difference in the reagent structure has an effect on the energy of activation but does not change the SHS initiation temperature and the temperature at which the initial phase involved in the reaction products nucleates. It is shown that the SHS initiation temperature in the Al/beta-Co/MgO(001) and Al/alpha-Co/MgO(001) systems coincides with the temperature of CoAl superstructure ordering. Аннотация: To decrease the rare earth element usage and synthesis cost of Y3Al5O12:Ce phosphor, the Y2BaAl4SiO12 compound is developed as a new host for Ce3+ employing the solid solution design strategy. The design uses polyhedron substitution where YO8/AlO4 are partially replaced by BaO8/SiO4, respectively. Structure analysis of Y2BaAl4SiO12 proves that it successfully preserves the garnet structure, crystallizing in the cubic Iad space group with a = b = c = 12.00680(5) Å. Barium (Ba) atoms occupy the Y site and silicon (Si) atoms occupy the Al site in the AlO4 tetrahedrons. An expanded study on Y2MAl4SiO12 (M = Ba, Ca, Mg, Sr) series shows a cation size (of M)-dependent phase formation behavior. The lattice stability can be related with the M type in the M–Si pair and substitution level of M–Si for Y–Al. Doping Ce3+ into Y2BaAl4SiO12 yields bright yellow photoluminescence peaking at around 537 nm upon excitation by 460 nm light. The emission intensity is quite stable against thermal quenching whereas the peak wavelength shows a slight red-shift as the ambient temperature increases. The crystallization behavior of Y2BaAl4SiO12 is suggested as melt-assisted precipitation/growth based on cathodoluminescence analysis. The highly crystalline nature of the microcrystals explains the stable emission against thermal quenching. This study may provide an inspiring insight into preparing phosphor with new morphology-structure of “microcrystal-glass powder phosphor”, which distinguishes it from conventional “ceramic powder phosphor” or “single-crystal phosphor”.

Аннотация: A sequence of phases forming during the solid-phase reaction in Al/Pt bilayer thin films has been investigated by in situ electron diffraction. It is shown that the amorphous PtAl2 phase forms first during the solid-phase reaction initiated by heating. Upon further heating, PtAl2, Pt2Al3, PtAl, and Pt3Al crystalline phases sequentially form, which is qualitatively consistent with an effective formation heat model. The content of phases forming during the reaction has been quantitatively analyzed and the structural phase transformations have been examined.

Аннотация: Single crystal of yttrium aluminum borate YAl3(BO3)4 doped with chromium ions (1 at %) was studied using electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is shown that chromium ions introduced into the sample occupy yttrium ion sites in the crystal structure. The parameters of the spin Hamiltonian of Cr3+ ions in the YАl3(ВО3)4 matrix are determined at different temperatures. The sign of the fine structure parameter D allows the conclusion that the chromium ions in YА13(ВО3)4 single crystals have an easy-plane anisotropy.
