Coal
-water slurry (CWS) is the basis of modern alternative fuel -
coal
-water fuel (CWF). To produce stable
coal
-water slurry, i.e. coagulation and separation is an important technological problem. The paper studies CWS the disperse part of which is fine brown Kansk-Achinsk
coal
, the dispersive part is distilled water. Effect of cavitational conditioning on CWS stability has been studied. The efficiency was for the first time studied by magnetic resonance tomography (MRT). In the experiment spin-lattice relaxation time profiles T1 were recorded along the central vertical axis of the samples. T1 dynamics correlates well with the local density of CWS solid phase. MRT data was sequentially interpreted with rheological characteristics of CWS. Feasibility of applying MRT method to find out time and space evolution of CWS has been estimated. The MRT methods has been shown to be efficient in resolution of technological problems to improve consumer properties of the
coal
-water fuel.

-water slurry consisting of finely ground
coal
, water or other liquid and plasticizing agents. The development of CWSF technology is highly relevant for solving global problems of resource conservation and ecology. The study is dedicated to CWSF properties with respect to Kansk-Achinsk
coal
and water. This paper presents the results of the influence of CWSF's preliminary cavitation water treatment on the combustion dynamics of fuel, (including the features of the combustion temperature trends, delayed ignition time and time of complete combustion) and on its environmental characteristics. A rotary-type hydrodynamic oscillator at high angular velocity (10000 rpm) was used in supercavitation mode. It is shown that the technology of cavitation water treatment leads to a change in the dynamics of CWSF's combustion and to an additional decrease in NOx emissions by 1.6 times, CO2 by 1.3 times.

Characterization of magnetic particulate matter (PM) in
coal
fly ashes is critical to assessing the health risks associated with industrial
coal
combustion and for future applications of fine fractions that will minimize solid waste pollution. In this study, magnetic narrow fractions of fine ferrospheres related to environmentally hazardous PM2.5, PM2.5–10, and PM10 were for the first time separated from fly ash produced during combustion of Ekibastuz
coal
. It was determined that the average diameter of globules in narrow fractions is 1, 2, 3, and 7 μm. The major components of chemical composition are Fe2O3 (57–60) wt %, SiO2 (25–28 wt %), and Al2O3 (10–12 wt %). The phase composition is represented by crystalline phases, including ferrospinel, α-Fe2O3, ε-Fe2O3, mullite, and quartz, as well as the amorphous glass phase. Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements confirmed the formation of nanoscale particles of ε-Fe2O3. Stabilization of the ε-Fe2O3 metastable phase, with quite ideal distribution of iron cations, occurs in the glass matrix due to the rapid cooling of fine globules during their formation from mineral components of
coal

Burning
coal
seams, characterized by massive carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, the presence of secondary sulfates, and high temperatures, represent suitable environments for thermophilic sulfate reduction. The diversity and activity of dissimilatory sulfate reducers in these environments remain unexplored. In this study, using metagenomic approaches, in situ activity measurements with a radioactive tracer, and cultivation we have shown that members of the genus Desulfofundulus are responsible for the extremely high sulfate reduction rate (SRR) in burning lignite seams in the Altai Mountains. The maximum SRR reached 564 ± 21.9 nmol S cm−3 day−1 at 60°C and was of the same order of magnitude for both thermophilic (60°C) and mesophilic (23°C) incubations. The 16S rRNA profiles and the search for dsr gene sequences in the metagenome revealed members of the genus Desulfofundulus as the main sulfate reducers. The thermophilic Desulfofundulus sp. strain Al36 isolated in pure culture, did not grow at temperatures below 50°C, but produced spores that germinated into metabolically active cells at 20 and 15°C. Vegetative cells germinating from spores produced up to 0.738 ± 0.026 mM H2S at 20°C and up to 0.629 ± 0.007 mM H2S at 15°C when CO was used as the sole electron donor. The Al36 strain maintains significant production of H2S from sulfate over a wide temperature range from 15°C to 65°C, which is important in variable temperature biotopes such as lignite burning seams. Burning
coal
seams producing CO are ubiquitous throughout the world, and biogenic H2S may represent an overlooked significant flux to the atmosphere. The thermophilic spore outgrowth and their metabolic activity at temperatures below the growth minimum may be important for other spore-forming bacteria of environmental, industrial and clinical importance.

mining area in Kuzbass, Russia. Joint analysis of radar interferometry measurements with simultaneous seismic observations shows that the land subsidence is triggered by seismic events, both natural and caused by human underground activity. Surface displacements are linked typically to the boundaries of block structures and correlate with the location of clusters of seismic events.

Аннотация:
Для расширения области практического использования угля как нетопливного материала понимание природы проводимости углей при различных внешних воздействиях чрезвычайно важно. В настоящее время развивается СВЧ-технология обработки угля с целью улучшения его качества (уменьшение влажности, зольности, увеличение дисперсности при диспергировании и т.д.). В данной работе исследовался Канско-Ачинский бурый уголь (зольность 8%, влажность 20%) после СВЧ-сушки в течение 60 и 120 с, в микроволновой печи мощностью 850 Вт. Методом РЭМ проведено рентгеновское картирование поверхности образцов с целью исследования элементного состава органической части угля и его минеральных составляющих и деструкции угольных частиц в поле СВЧ (растровый электронный микроскоп Hitachi TM-30000). Для изучения влияния СВЧ-сушки на уголь применен метод ЭМР, позволяющий исследовать связь структуры и электронных свойств угольного вещества (ЭМР-спектрометр Х-диапазона SE/X-2544). В результате анализа изменения параметров спектров ЭМР образцов угля после СВЧ-воздействия обнаружено сходство электронной структуры угля со структурой многокомпонентных органических стекол. После СВЧ-воздействия наблюдается увеличение подвижности и перераспределения положений парамагнитных ионов, в частности Fe3+, в более стабильные положения внутри кислородных тетраэдров в аморфной (органической) части угля. Подвижными являются электроны радикальных центров, образованных атомами углерода карбонильных, карбоксильных, феноксильных групп и углеводородных фрагментов различного типа. Показано, что удаление воды в результате СВЧ-воздействия также оказывает глубокое влияние на концентрацию и природу радикалов, т. е. на электронную структуру углей.
In order to expand the field of practical application of
coal
as a non-fuel material, understanding the nature of
coal
conductivity under various external influences is extremely important. At present the microwave technology of
coal
processing is developing in order to improve its quality (reduction of moisture, ash content, and better dispersion). In this paper the Kansko-Achinsk brown
coal
(ash content of 8%, humidity of 20%) after microwave drying for 60, 120 s in a microwave oven, at power of 850 W was investigated. The X-ray mapping of the samples surface was carried out using the SEM method to study the elemental composition of the
coal
organic part and its mineral components and the destruction of carbon particles in the microwave field (Hitachi TM- 30000 scanning electron microscope). The ESR method, which allows to investigate the relation between the structure and electronic properties of
coal
matter, was applied to study the effect of microwave drying on
coal
(X-band SE / X-2544 EMF spectrometer). The similarity of the
coal
electronic structure with the multicomponent organic structure glasses was found as a result of the analysis of the changes in the ESR spectra parameters of
coal
samples (300 K, 83 K) after microwave exposure. The mobility and redistribution of paramagnetic ions positions, in particular Fe3+ to more stable positions inside oxygen tetrahedra in the amorphous (organic) part of the
coal
is observed after microwave action. The electrons of the radical centers formed by the carbon atoms of the carbonyl, carboxyl, phenoxy groups and hydrocarbon fragments of various types are mobile. It has been shown that the water removal as a result of microwave exposure also has a profound effect on the concentration and nature of the radicals, i.e. on the electronic structure of the coals.
