Аннотация: The discovery of Eu2+-doped high-efficiency red phosphors remains a vital challenge for white light-emitting diode (WLED) applications. It is therefore urgent to find effective strategies managing the oxidation state to help reduce Eu3+ to Eu2+ and accordingly increase the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Herein, a new red-emitting SrLaScO4:Eu phosphor is designed, and the PLQY is enhanced from 13% to 67% under 450 nm excitation by employing (NH4)2SO4-assisted sintering. Combined structural analysis, optical spectroscopy, and theoretical calculation reveal that predominant Eu2+ prefers to occupy the Sr2+ sites in the SrLaScO4 enabling red emission, and a competitive site occupation of Eu3+ in La3+ can be restrained, and the reduction mechanism of Eu3+ to Eu2+ originating from the (NH4)2SO4 addition is analyzed. The fabricated WLED device using red-emitting SrLaScO4:Eu and yellow-emitting Y3(Al,Ga)5O12:Ce3+ exhibits a high color-rendering index of 86.7 at a low correlated color temperature of 4005 K. This work provides a feasible reduction strategy for guiding the development of high-efficiency Eu2+-doped red phosphor for WLED applications.

Аннотация: We report g tensors of surface color centers, so-called F-s(+) centers, of MgO calculated with two density-functional approaches using accurately embedded cluster models. In line with recent UHV measurements on single-crystalline MgO film, we determined only small g-tensor anisotropies and negative shifts Delta g equivalent to g-g(e) for all F-s(+) sites considered, namely, (001)-terrace, step, edge, and corner sites. The g values are very sensitive to the local structure of the defect: relaxation reverses the sign of Delta g. However, accounting for the spin-orbit interaction either self-consistently or perturbatively yields very similar results. In addition to the values of the tensor components, their direction with respect to the surface was determined. In contrast to edges, significant deviations from ideal C-2v symmetry were found for F-s(+) centers at steps. Recent data on single-crystalline thin films are reevaluated in the light of these results. (c) 2006 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: In ScF3 single crystals (pure and doped) as well as in Rb2KScF6 and Rb2KDyF6 crystals with a perovskite-like structure, point nanodefects (vacancy in place of trivalent cations) have been found and studied. Electron paramagnetic resonance has been used to investigate local paramagnetic centers that are not detected using X-ray diffraction. The angular dependence of the spectra indicates a local distortion of the cubic symmetry of the crystals. An additional hyperfine structure in the observed spectra is due to the delocalization of electrons over six F− ions forming the first coordination polyhedron around the vacancy. The crystals studied are characterized by a high electron mobility and a high electron velocity, which depends on the impurity. The high mobility of electrons of the cation center can be indirectly responsible for the structural phase transition occurring in the ScF3 crystal under uniaxial pressure.

Аннотация: Zero field splitting (ZFS) of Gd3+ impurity in ScF3 is studied by electron paramagnetic resonance at 77 and 295 K. ZFS parameter b4 values obtained from angular dependence simulations show that regardless of negative thermal expansion in ScF3 temperature dependence of |b4| is similar to other cubic fluoroperovskites. Our analysis of ZFS parameters indicates that the local structure of Gd3+ centres expands positively with temperature. © 2015 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Аннотация: The Jahn-Teller effect in the ZnGa2O4 spinel single crystal has been investigated using electron paramagnetic resonance of Cu2+ ions in the temperature range 110-560 K. It has been shown that copper ions occupy octahedral sites 16d in the ZnGa2O4 crystal with cubic symmetry O (h) (7) (Fd-3m). Аннотация: Crystals of a diamagnetic PbGaBO4 analog containing a small amount (about 0.5 at %) of Fe3+ ions are grown. The single-ion EPR spectra of Fe3+ in PbGa1-xFexBO4 single crystals are analyzed with allowance for a crystal structure. The existence of four magnetically nonequivalent positions of Fe3+ ions with different local anisotropy axis directions has been confirmed. The parameters of the spin Hamiltonian written in the approximation of the local orthorhombic symmetry of a paramagnetic center are determined. The values of single-ion anisotropy constants, which are unusually high for S ions, is shown to be caused by a strong distortion of the ligand environment of Fe3+ ions. The single-ion contribution to the energy of the total magnetic anisotropy of a magnetically concentrated PbGaBO4 crystal is estimated. Two-ion mechanisms of the Fe–Fe interaction anisotropy are assumed to play a dominant role in the formation of magnetic anisotropy in a magnetically concentrated crystal.

Аннотация: Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and magnetostriction of the Cu2MnBO5 single crystal have been studied. The EPR spectrum consists of a single Lorentzian line due to the exchange-coupled system of spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions. It has been established experimentally that the g-factor in the paramagnetic region is strongly anisotropic and anomalously small, which is not typical of the exchange-coupled system of spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions. At a temperature of 150 K, the g-factors along the crystallographic a, b, and c axes are 2.04, 1.96, and 1.87, respectively. Such small effective g-factor values can be due to the effect of the anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interaction between the spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions directed along the a axis. The presence of two Cu2+ and Mn3+ Jahn-Teller ions occupying four nonequivalent positions in the crystal is responsible for the absence of the inversion center. It is found that the behavior of the magnetostriction of Cu2MnBO5 is not typical of transition-metal crystals but is closer to the behavior of crystals containing rare-earth ions.

Аннотация: The effect of magnetic nanoparticles coated with arabinogalactan on the viability of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells was studied. The nanoparticles were studied by transmission electron microscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and ferromagnetic resonance. A correlation between the proportion of dead EAC cells in suspension and the intensity of the EPR signal of dinitrosyl iron complexes was found. This result may be due to the presence of NO molecules.

Аннотация: Magnetic and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) properties of EuFe3(BO3)(4) single crystals have been studied over the temperature range of 300-4.2 K and in a magnetic field up to 5 T. The temperature, field and orientation dependences of susceptibility, magnetization and EPR spectra are presented. An antiferromagnetic ordering of the Fe subsystem occurs at about 37 K. The easy direction of magnetization perpendicular to the c axis is determined by magnetic measurements. Below 10 K, we observe an increase of susceptibility connected with the polarization of the Eu sublattice by an effective exchange field of the ordered Fe magnetic subsystem. In a magnetic field perpendicular to the c axis, we have observed an increase of magnetization at T 10 K in the applied magnetic field, which can be attributed to the appearance of the magnetic moment induced by the magnetic field applied in the basal plane. According to EPR measurements, the distance between the maximum and minimum of derivative of absorption line of the Lorentz type is equal to 319 Gs. The anisotropy of g-factor and linewidth is due to the influence of crystalline field of trigonal symmetry. The peculiarities of temperature dependence of both intensity and linewidth are caused by the influence of excited states of europium ion (Eu3+). It is supposed that the difference between the g-factors from EPR and the magnetic measurements is caused by exchange interaction between rare earth and Fe subsystems via anomalous Zeeman effect.

Аннотация: Optical and magneto-optical properties of solutions of crude oil of different origin (i.e., taken from different fields) are studied in the visible and near-UV region of optical emission. Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of oil are obtained in the vicinity of wavelengths of ~410 nm, 533 nm, and 576 nm. It is demonstrated that the intensity of the MCD signal depends on the origin of crude oil, and it is proportional to the oil concentration in the solution. The comparison of the magneto-optical spectroscopy data with the chemical composition of samples allows us to conclude that the observed magneto-optical activity is determined by the presence of VO2+ complexes in the oil samples studied. The revealed magneto-optical activity of conventional oil can form a basis of a new method for the analysis of the composition and properties of oil of different origin.

Аннотация: We have experimentally studied optical and magneto-optical spectra of solutions of crude oils of different origin and their heavy fractions in the visible spectral range. Magnetic circular dichroism of oil in the wavelength range similar to 550 nm has been revealed. We show that the shape of the spectra of this dichroism depends on the origin of crude oil, with the magnetic dichroism magnitude being proportional to the concentration of the oil in the solution. A comparison of the data of magneto-optical spectroscopy with electron paramagnetic resonance spectra and chemical composition of samples has allowed us to conclude that the observed magneto-optical activity is determined by the occurrence of VO2+ complexes in the oil samples. The revealed magneto-optical activity of crude oil can form the basis of a unique method of analysis of the composition and properties of oils of different origin and heavy fractions thereof.
