Аннотация: Experimental modeling of the formation of graphite and diamond as a result of carbide–fluid interactions was performed in the Fe3C–SiO2–Al2O3–(Mg,Ca)CO3 systems at 6.3 and 7.5 GPa and 1100–1650 °C. In the experiments with ƒO2-gradient (7.5 GPa, 1250–1350 °C), graphite + magnesiowüstite + garnet ± cohenite assemblage was formed. Graphite was produced through the redox interactions of carbide with carbonate or CO2 (reducing conditions), and redox reactions of magnesiowüstite and CO2 (oxidizing conditions). At 1450–1650 °C, crystallization of graphite, garnet, magnesiowüstite and ferrospinel, as well as generation of Fe2+,3+-rich carbonate–silicate melt occurred. This melt, saturated with carbon, acted as a medium of graphite crystallization and diamond growth on seeds. In the experiments without ƒO2-gradient (6.3 GPa), decarbonation reactions with the formation of CO2-fluid and Fe,Mg,Ca-silicates, as well as C0-producing redox reactions of CO2-fluid with cohenite were simultaneously realized. As a result, graphite (± diamond growth) was formed in assemblage with Fe2+,Fe3+,Mg-silicates and magnetite (1100–1200 °C), or with Fe3+-rich garnet and orthopyroxene (1300–1500 °C). It has been established that a potential mechanism for the crystallization of graphite or diamond growth is the oxidation of cohenite by CO2-fluid to FeO and Fe3O4, accompanied by the extraction of carbon from Fe3C and the corresponding reduction of CO2 to C0.

Аннотация: Of great importance in the problem of redox evolution of mantle rocks is the reconstruction of scenarios of alteration of Fe0- or Fe3C-bearing rocks by oxidizing mantle metasomatic agents and the evaluation of stability of these phases under the influence of fluids and melts of different compositions. Original results of high-temperature high-pressure experiments (P = 6.3 GPa, T = 1300–1500°С) in the carbide–oxide–carbonate systems (Fe3C–SiO2–(Mg,Ca)CO3 and Fe3C–SiO2–Al2O3–(Mg,Ca)CO3) are reported. Conditions of formation of mantle silicates with metallic or metal–carbon melt inclusions are determined and their stability in the presence of CO2-fluid representing the potential mantle oxidizing metasomatic agent are estimated. It is established that garnet or orthopyroxene and CO2-fluid are formed in the carbide–oxide–carbonate system through decarbonation, with subsequent redox interaction between CO2 and iron carbide. This results in the formation of assemblage of Fe-rich silicates and graphite. Garnet and orthopyroxene contain inclusions of a Fe–C melt, as well as graphite, fayalite, and ferrosilite. It is experimentally demonstrated that the presence of CO2-fluid in interstices does not affect on the preservation of metallic inclusions, as well as graphite inclusions in silicates. Selective capture of Fe–C melt inclusions by mantle silicates is one of the potential scenarios for the conservation of metallic iron in mantle domains altered by mantle oxidizing metasomatic agents.

Аннотация: Highly efficient phosphors with thermal stability and color-tunable emission are required for the fabrication of phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs). Currently developed engineering strategies are generally successful in photoluminescence tuning but, unfortunately, suffer severe deterioration in emission intensity/efficiency and/or thermal stability. Herein, an efficient aliovalent substitution strategy toward reinforced structural rigidity is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. By incorporating Be2+ ion into the garnet-type Lu2SrAl4SiO12:Ce3+ phosphor, the phosphor shows enhanced internal/external quantum efficiency, from 79.2%/26.7% to 84.5%/32.9%, photoluminescence tuning from green (peaking at ∼512 nm) to yellow (peaking at ∼552 nm), and zero thermal quenching, even up to 200 °C. The Be2+ substitution at the Al2/Si2 site enables stable and rigid local surroundings around the Ce3+ activator, which is responsible for the unprecedented performance. In addition, high-quality warm WLED devices with a luminous efficiency of 158.1 lm W-1, correlated color temperature of 3858 K and high color rendering index of 81.7, are obtained by combining Lu2SrAl4SiO12:Ce3+,Be2+ as the yellow emitter, CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ as the red emitter and a blue-emitting InGaN chip. These findings highlight a new strategy for performance optimization of LED phosphors by selecting rigid covalent compounds with further reinforced structural rigidity via aliovalent substitution.

Аннотация: The mechanism of relaxation of the electric polarization in thin films of rare-earth-doped bismuth iron garnet on glass and gallium gadolinium garnet substrates is determined in magnetic fields of 0 and 12 kOe in the temperature range of 80–380 K. The change in the sign of the residual electric polarization after switching off the electric field and the magnetic-field-induced shift of the hysteresis loop in the applied magnetic field are found. Linear and quadratic magnetoelectric effects with the tensor components depending on the substrate type are observed. The linear magnetoelectric effect is related to the spin–orbit coupling of electrons at the film–substrate interface, whereas the quadratic one is determined by the exchange–striction mechanism.

Аннотация: This paper reports the development of new phosphors using the chemical unit cosubstituting solid solution design strategy. Starting from Lu3Al5O12, the Al3+-Al3+ couple in respective octahedral and tetrahedral coordination was simultaneously substituted by a Mg2+-Si4+ pair forming the Lu3(Al2-xMgx)(Al3-xSix)O12:Ce3+ (x = 0.5-2.0) series; as a result, the CeO8 polyhedrons were compressed and the emission got red-shifted from green to yellow together with the broadening. The evolution of, the unit cell, the local structural geometry as well as the optical properties of Ce3+ in these garnet creations, in response to the gradual Mg-Si substitution for Al-Al, were studied by combined techniques of structural refinement and luminescence measurements. The new composition Lu2.97Ce0.03Mg0.5Al4Si0.5O12 was comprehensively evaluated regarding its potential application in blue LED-driven solid state white lighting: the maximum emission is at 550 nm under ?ex = 450 nm; the internal and external quantum efficiencies can reach 85% and 49%, respectively; a 1-phosphor-converted wLED lamp fabricated using the as-prepared phosphor exhibits the luminous efficacy of 105 lm W-1, the correlated color temperature of 6164 K and the color rendering index (Ra) of 75.6. The new solid solution composition series is open for further optimization to enhance the competence for commercial consideration. © 2016 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Аннотация: Electro- and magnetostriction mechanisms and temperature behavior of the length of bismuth-substituted neodymium iron garnet films on glass and gallium gadolinium garnet have been investigated. Electric- and magnetic-field and temperature dependences of the electro- and magnetostriction constants have been determined. It has been established that the magnetostriction constant changes its sign upon temperature variation. The experimental data are explained using a model of dipole glass with the magnetoelectric and magnetoelastic interaction.

Аннотация: Tb0.985Ce0.015)3(Al1-xGax)5O12 garnet phosphors (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 1.0) were prepared by calcining their coprecipitated precursors in air at 1500 °C, followed by reduction in hydrogen at 1200 °C. Rietveld refinement of the XRD results suggested that the Ga dopant predominantly resides at the octahedral Al site of the garnet lattice. Ga doping led to linearly expanded lattice constant, cell volume and theoretical density of the garnet compound and successively lower intensity and longer average fluorescence lifetime of the ~ 570 nm emission of Ce3+. Blue shifted emission and 4f(2F5/2)→5d1(E2g) excitation and red shifted 4f(2F5/2)→5d2(E2g) excitation were also observed for the Ce3+ activator at a higher Ga content. The phenomena were interpreted by considering the band structure of the host, distortion of the CeO8 polyhedron, and centroid shift and field splitting of the Ce3+ 5d energy levels.

Аннотация: Far-red/phytochrome (PFR) plays a key role in photomorphogenesis of plants. However, how to obtain a near-infrared (NIR) emitting phosphor with high external quantum efficiency (EQE), suitable spectral profile, and low thermal quenching remains a huge challenge. Herein, a NIR phosphor, Gd2.4Lu0.6Ga4AlO12:Cr3+,H3BO3 (GLGA:Cr3+) was developed via regulating the crystal field environment and adding fluxes, which exhibits a peak maximum at 728 nm with a relatively narrow full-width at half maximum (FWHM) of 107 nm, matching well with the absorption band of PFR. Upon 450 nm excitation, the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) and EQE of the optimal phosphor are 90.3% and 32.0%, respectively. At 423 K, the integrated emission intensity of the investigated phosphor is about 75% of that at room temperature. Benefiting from the excellent optical performance, a NIR phosphor-converted light-emitting diode (pc-LED) was fabricated, which shows a NIR output power of 505.99 mW and photoelectric conversion efficiency of 11.24% at 300 mA. Moreover, plant growth experiments demonstrate that the biomass of pea seedlings is increased by 67.72% under supplementary NIR light irradiation. The findings of this research will motivate further research on new Cr3+-doped NIR phosphors for regulating photomorphogenesis of plants.

Аннотация: Cr3+-doped phosphors are highly recognized in various fields for their remarkable luminous efficiency and spectral flexibility, including modern agriculture and horticulture. However, the shortage of suitable Cr3+-doped phosphors for far-red LED devices has inhibited their popularization in plant lighting. Herein, an innovative Cr3+-doped phosphor Ca2YAl3Ge2O12:Cr3+ (CYAG:Cr3+), achieving a broad far-red emission at 770 nm upon 450 nm blue light excitation is designed. The optimal CYAG:Cr3+ phosphor exhibits a high internal quantum yield of 78.2% and low thermal-quenching behavior of 85%@373 K. Thus, the fabricated phosphor-converted LEDs (pc-LEDs) for plant far-red lighting have a high output power of 33.3 mW and photovoltaic conversion efficiency of 11.5% at 100 mA. The potential of CYAG:Cr3+ in plant lighting is assessed by supplementing the far-red lighting of Italian lettuce with fabricated pc-LEDs, and the biomass of Italian lettuce is significantly increased by 33%. The successful development of CYAG:Cr3+ phosphors provides a high-quality option for plant far-red light devices and further stimulates the development of new Cr3+-doped plant-lighting phosphors.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties and Mossbauer spectra of the Y1.8Bi1.2Fe3.5Ga1.5O12 compound were investigated. A linear temperature dependence of the saturation magnetization, hysteresis, and stability of the coercive field in the magnetically ordered state were found. Using the Mossbauer measurements, the distribution of iron ions over octahedral and tetrahedral sites and the concentration of paramagnetic iron ions were determined. Two critical temperatures – the sublattice magnetization compensation temperature and the ferrimagnet–paramagnet transition temperature – were established. The disappear of the phonon mode in the vicinity of the magnetic transition was observed. The experimental data have been interpreted in terms of the spin–lattice interaction model.

Аннотация: The Nd1Bi2Fe5O12/Nd2Bi1Fe4Ga1O12 polycrystalline films on the glass substrate and the Nd0.5Bi2.5Fe5O12 epitaxial films on the single-crystal gadolinium gallium garnet substrate have been investigated by impedance and dielectric spectroscopy. The inductive contribution to the impedance and two relaxation channels related to ferroelectric domains and migration polarization have been established. The magnetocapacitance and magnetoimpedance have been determined. The conductive and polarization currents and the phase difference between them for the films of two types have been determined. The critical temperatures of the polarization disappearance and hysteresis I–V have been found. A model of the polarization caused by the piezoelectric effect and flexoelectric interaction has been proposed. I–V hysteresis is explained by the presence of ferroelectric domains near the interface and is associated with the hysteresis of the electric polarization.

Аннотация: Garnet-type Y3Sc2Ga3O12:Cr3+ phosphor has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction. XRD result revealed the successful phase formation and Cr3+ doping in Y3Sc2Ga3O12. The excitation spectrum at about 260, 450, and 630 nm corresponded to three spin-allowed Cr3+ d-d intra-transitions of 4A2-4T1 (4P), 4A2-4T1 (4F), and 4A2-4T2 (4F), respectively, among which the near infrared (NIR) emission peak at around 740 nm is identified. Moreover, the phosphorescence emission property, thermoluminescence and related luminescence mechanisms are discussed as well. The fabricated NIR phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) suggest its potential of Y3Sc2Ga3O12:Cr3+ phosphor for non-visible light source application.

Аннотация: A high color rendering index white light emitting diode (WLED) is generally produced by combining yellow and red mixed phosphors on a blue chip. Herein we report a single component phosphor based on CaY2Al4SiO12 (CYAS) to achieve warm white light emission with a high color rendering index (Ra), which can be up to 90.5. Ce3+, Mn2+ singly doped and co-doped CYAS phosphors have been synthesized by solid state reactions, respectively, for comparative investigations. The Rietveld X-ray diffraction (XRD) refinements show that the CYAS host crystallizes in a cubic structure with the Ia[3 with combining macron]d space group. The valence states of Ce and Mn inside the CYAS host have been confirmed by XPS and EPR. Ce3+ occupies the Ca2+/Y3+ site and generates a yellow emission band around 543 nm from its characteristic 5d–4f transition. Mn2+ occupies both the dodecahedron Ca2+/Y3+ and octahedral Al3+ sites, emitting red and deep red lights at 616 nm and 750 nm, respectively. These two emission bands are attributed to the 4T1(4G)–6A1(6S) transitions of Mn2+. Upon 460 nm light excitation, both the Ce3+ and Mn2+ characteristic emissions can be obtained, in which the emissions of Mn2+ result from the occurrence of energy transfer from Ce3+ in CYAS. All the results indicate that the prepared CYAS:Ce3+,Mn2+ could be a promising single component phosphor for blue chip WLEDs.

Аннотация: In polycrystalline cerium iron garnet films, the gap in the electron excitation spectrum and electronic transitions between di- and tetravalent iron and cerium impurity ions have been established from the IR absorption spectra. The temperatures of delocalization of the ferrous states of iron have been found from the impedance spectroscopy, electrical resistance, and IR spectroscopy data. The difference between the ac and dc magnetoresistances has been established and explained using a model of a dielectrically inhomogeneous medium.

Аннотация: Garnet-type compound Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 and Cr3+-doped or Cr3+/Bi3+ codped Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 phosphors were prepared by a solid-state reaction. The crystal structure of Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 host was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and further determined by the Rietveld refinement. Near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) and long-lasting phosphorescence (LLP) emission can be observed from the Cr3+-doped Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 sample, and the enhanced NIR PL emission intensity and LLP decay time can be realized in Cr3+/Bi3+ codped samples. The optimum concentration of Cr3+ in Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 phosphor was about 6 mol%, and optimum Bi3+ concentration induced the energy-transfer (ET) process between Bi3+ and Cr3+ ions was about 30 mol%. Under different excitation wavelength from 280 to 453 nm, all the samples exhibit a broadband emission peaking at 739 nm and the intensity of NIR emission increases owing to the ET behavior from Bi3+ to Cr3+ ions. The critical ET distance has been calculated by the concentration-quenching method. The thermally stable luminescence properties were also studied and the introduction of Bi3+ can also improve the thermal stability of the NIR emission.

Аннотация: Experimental modeling of the processes of formation of ferric carbonate-silicate melts through the carbonate-oxide-metal interaction is performed in the (Mg,Ca)CO3-SiO2-Al2O3-Fe0 system at 6.3 and 7.5 GPa and within 1150-1650 °C, using a multianvil high-pressure apparatus of “split-sphere” type (BARS). Two parallel reactions run in the subsolidus region (1150-1450 °C): decarbonation, producing pyrope-almandine (Fe# = 0.40-0.75) and CO2 fluid, and redox interaction between carbonate and Fe0, resulting in the crystallization of iron carbide in assemblage with magnesiowustite (Fe# = 0.75-0.85). It is shown that the reduction of carbonate or CO2 fluid by iron carbide and parallel redox interaction of magnesiowustite with CO2 produce graphite in assemblage with Fe3 + -containing magnesiowustite. In the temperature range of 1450-1650 °C, generation of carbonate-silicate melts coexisting with pyrope-almandine, magnesiowustite, magnetite, ferrospinel, and graphite takes place. The composition of the produced melts is as follows: SiO2 - 10-15 wt.%, X(FeO + Fe2O3) = 36-43 wt.%, and Fe3+/XFe - 0.18-0.23. These Fe3 + -enriched carbonate-silicate melts/fluids are saturated with carbon and are the medium of graphite crystallization. Oxide and silicate phases (almandine, ferrospinel, and magnetite) coexisting with graphite are also characterized by high Fe3+/XFe values. It has been established that Fe3 + -enriched carbonate-silicate melts can result from the interaction of Fe0-containing rocks with carbonated rocks. In the reduced mantle (with the presence of iron carbides or oxides), melts of this composition can be the source of carbon and the medium of graphite crystallization at once. After separation and ascent, these ferric carbonate-silicate melts can favor oxidizing metasomatism in the lithospheric mantle.

Аннотация: New garnet phosphors, Lu3−xYxMgAl3SiO12:Ce3+ (x = 0–3), which can be efficiently excited by blue light and emit the yellow-orange light, were developed using the solid solution design strategy combining the chemical unit substitution and the cation substitution. Crystal structures of the four compounds were reported for the first time via the Rietveld refinement of their powder XRD patterns. All phosphors show the general cubic garnet structure with the space group Iad. The specific occupancy of Lu/Y, Al/Mg, Al/Si and O atoms in different positions was identified. The evolution of cell parameters and Y/Lu/Ce–O bond lengths were identified. Photoluminescence properties were evaluated on aspects of emission/excitation spectra, internal/external quantum efficiency and thermal emission stability. Under the 450 nm blue light excitation, the phosphors exhibit bright yellow color emission, peaking in the 575–597 nm spectral range. The internal and external quantum efficiency can reach 83% and 58%, respectively. The emission red-shift in response to the Y/Lu ratio variation was discussed in relation to the local structure evolution. The phosphors are relatively promising to act as wavelength converter of blue light in white light emitting diodes.
