Аннотация: A systematic study of ensembles of nickel nanoparticles fabricated by Ni+-ion implantation at a dose of (0.5-1.0)?1017 ions/cm2 in a thin near-surface layer of an amorphous SiO2 matrix by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dc magnetic measurements, and magneto-optical technique is presented. TEM characterization of Ni nanoparticles proves the formation of isolated spherical nickel nanoparticles with diameters from 2 to 16 nm. The crystal structure and lattice constant of the nanoparticles correspond to face-centered-cubic Ni. The larger size nanoparticles are shown to have core-shell structure, which is unusual for the implantation conditions used. The shell of these nanoparticles consists of Ni, while the core has supposedly the composition coinciding with the matrix, i.e., SiO2. The core-shell nanoparticles in the investigated sample coexist with ordinary pure Ni nanoparticles, which strongly affects the magnetic and especially magneto-optic properties of the samples. For all three doses, the nanoparticles are in the superparamagnetic state at room temperature passing to the "frozen" state at lower temperatures. However, only the sample implanted with the lowest dose demonstrates the classic superparamagnetic behavior according to the shape of the experimental magnetization temperature dependencies for the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled regimes. This shape deviation from that characteristic of the pure superparamagnetic ensembles is ascribed mainly to the particle core-shell structure. The Ni nanoparticles' anisotropy constant estimated with the help of ZFC curves appears to exceed the bulk Ni anisotropy second constant approximately by two orders of magnitude. Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is characterized by spectral dependence modified strongly as compared to the MCD spectra of a continuous Ni film. In the spectral range 1.1-4.2 eV, the MCD spectrum consists of two broad maxima of opposite sign with the characteristics depending on the implantation dose and the measurement temperature. The MCD spectra analysis allows one to show that the higher-energy maximum (at 3.34-3.48 eV depending on the dose) is related to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) excitation in pure Ni nanoparticles, while the lower-energy maximum (at 2.19-2.73 eV depending on the dose) should be associated with the SPR excitation in core-shell nanoparticles. Аннотация: Static magnetization (SM), magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and electron magnetic resonance (EMR) studies are reported of borate glasses 22.5 K 2O-22.5 Al 2O 3-55 B 2O 3 co-doped with iron and manganese oxides. In as-prepared glasses the paramagnetic ions usually are in diluted state; however, if the ratio of the iron and manganese oxides in the charge is 3/2, magnetic nanoparticles are found already in as-prepared glass. After additional thermal treatment all glasses show magnetic behaviour, MCD and EMR due to the presence of magnetic nanoparticles with characteristics close to those of manganese ferrite. By computer simulating the EMR spectra at variable temperatures, their morphological characteristics are deduced: relatively broad size and shape distribution with average diameter of ca. 3-4 nm. The characteristic temperature-dependent shift of the apparent resonance field is explained by a strong temperature dependence of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the nanoparticles. The potassium-alumina-borate glasses containing magnetic nanoparticles represent a novel class of materials: "transparent magnets". Indeed, they remain transparent in a part of visible and near infrared spectral range while showing magnetic and magneto-optical properties characteristic of magnetically ordered materials.

Аннотация: Features of the formation of chemically deposited polycrystalline Co-P films with nanometer thicknesses are established by magnetic measurements and analysis of film surface morphology. It is found that the specific value of the magnetooptical Faraday effect in Co-P films exceeds that in Co films by a factor of more than two. This is attributed to the magnetic polarization of a Pd underlayer. It is shown the Kerr effect in Co films is negligibly influenced by the embedding of phosphorus. © 2012 Allerton Press, Inc.

Аннотация: Scheelite related alkali-metal rare-earth double molybdate compounds with a general formula of ALn(MoO4)2 can find wide application as red phosphors. The crystal chemistry and luminescence properties of red-emitting CsGd1−xEux(MoO4)2 solid-solution phosphors have been evaluated in the present paper. A detailed analysis of the structural properties indicates the formation of isostructural scheelite-type CsGd1−xEux(MoO4)2 solid-solutions over the composition range of 0 ≤ x ≤ 1. The photoluminescence emission (PL) and excitation (PLE) spectra, and the decay curves were measured for this series of compounds. The critical doping concentration of Eu3+ is determined to be x = 0.6 in order to realize the maximum emission intensity. The emission spectra of the as-obtained CsGd(1−x)Eux(MoO4)2 phosphors show narrow high intensity red lines at 592 and 615 nm upon excitation at 394 or 465 nm, revealing great potential for applications in white light-emitting diode devices.

Аннотация: The arrangement of a polar twin structure in Czochralski grown α-SrB4O7 crystals has been investigated. The transversal twin boundaries are stretched along [ 1 0 1 ] and [ 1 0 0 ] directions. The lateral twin boundaries are parallel to ( 0 1 0 ) plane. The twin structures have an extension up to centimeter size in all directions. Supposedly, they originate from polysynthetic polar microtwins revealed to form in ( 1 0 1 ¯ ) and ( 1 ¯ 0 1 ¯ ) growth pyramids. The dimensions, planarity and thickness stability of each individual twin are favorable for organizing quasi-phase matching conditions for nonlinear optical doubling of high-aperture beams.

Аннотация: A systematic study of the iron–silicon interfaces formed upon preparation of (Fe/Si) multilayers has been performed by combination of modern and powerful techniques. Samples were prepared by thermal evaporation under ultrahigh vacuum onto a Si(1 0 0) substrate. The morphology of these films and their interfaces was studied by a combination of scanning transmission electron microscopy, X-ray reflectivity, angle resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The Si-on-Fe interface thickness and roughness were determined to be 1.4(1) nm and 0.6(1) nm, respectively. Moreover, determination of the stable phases formed at both Fe-on-Si and Si-on-Fe interfaces was performed using conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy on multilayers with well separated Si-on-Fe and Fe-on-Si interfaces. It is shown that while a fraction of Fe remains as α-Fe, the rest has reacted with Si, forming the paramagnetic c-Fe1−xSi phase and a ferromagnetic Fe rich silicide (DO3 type phase). We conclude that the paramagnetic c-Fe1−xSi silicide sublayer is identical in both Si-on-Fe and Fe-on-Si interfaces, whereas an asymmetry is revealed in the composition of the ferromagnetic silicide sublayer.

Аннотация: Composite materials with Co(P) particles embedded into pores of silica and track etched polycarbonate membranes were fabricated by an electroless reduction. The magnetic and structural properties of the composite materials are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The macroscopic and local magnetic anisotropy of the Co(P) particles electroless deposited in the pores of the polycarbonate membrane and silica is studied. The composite materials with linear pores exhibit uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. The easy axis lies along the Co(P) rods, the shape anisotropy dominates over the intrinsic crystalline anisotropy. Information on local anisotropy field and the grain size was obtained from investigation of approach to saturation magnetization law. The local anisotropy field for all the samples depends on P content. For Co(P) rods the local anisotropy value is also determined by nominal pore sizes. It was found that the investigated Co(P) rods is nanocrystalline. The effects of different pores morphology on the MR-spectra characteristics are studied

Аннотация: Cu1-xFexCr2Se4 nanoparticles with x = 0, 0.2, and 0.4 were synthesized via thermal decomposition of metal nitrate or chloride salts and selenium powder using different precursor compositions and processing details. Single crystalline nano-belts or nano-rods coexist in the synthesized powder samples with hexagon-shaped plates in dependence on the precursor composition. The belts gathered into conglomerates forming "hierarchical" particles. Visible magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) of Cu1-xFexCr2Se4 nanoparticles embedded into a transparent matrix was investigated for the first time. The similarity of the MCD spectra of all samples showed the similarity of the nanoparticles electronic structure independent of their morphology. Basing on the MCD spectral maxima characteristics, electron transitions from the ground to the excited states were identified with the help of the conventional band theory and the multi-electron approach. © 2015 Elsevier B.V.
