Аннотация: Red-light-emitting materials, as pivotal components of warm white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), have drawn increasing public focus. Among these, Mn4+-doped red light-emitting fluorides have drawn considerable attention when combined with an InGaN chip; however, they suffer from poor water stability under humid conditions. In this work, a novel fluoride red phosphor, Cs30(Nb2O2F9)9(OH)3·H2O:xMn4+ (CNOFM), with good water resistance was synthesized for the first time using a facile co-precipitation method at ambient temperature. Experiments were implemented for the precise analysis of its crystal structure, optical properties, micro-morphology, thermal behavior, and waterproof properties. 6.66% Mn4+-doped CNOFM maintained a stable crystal structure and possessed strong PL intensity located at 633 nm with high color purity of 96%. CNOFM showed better thermal and waterproof stability compared with the commercial K2SiF6:Mn4+ red phosphor. Without any surface modifications, the PL intensity remained at about 83% of the initial value after immersion in water for 60 min, and the mechanism was investigated. Finally, a warm WLED with a CRI of 92.3 and CCT of 3271 K was fabricated using the CNOFM red phosphor.

Аннотация: Highly efficient phosphors with thermal stability and color-tunable emission are required for the fabrication of phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs). Currently developed engineering strategies are generally successful in photoluminescence tuning but, unfortunately, suffer severe deterioration in emission intensity/efficiency and/or thermal stability. Herein, an efficient aliovalent substitution strategy toward reinforced structural rigidity is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. By incorporating Be2+ ion into the garnet-type Lu2SrAl4SiO12:Ce3+ phosphor, the phosphor shows enhanced internal/external quantum efficiency, from 79.2%/26.7% to 84.5%/32.9%, photoluminescence tuning from green (peaking at ∼512 nm) to yellow (peaking at ∼552 nm), and zero thermal quenching, even up to 200 °C. The Be2+ substitution at the Al2/Si2 site enables stable and rigid local surroundings around the Ce3+ activator, which is responsible for the unprecedented performance. In addition, high-quality warm WLED devices with a luminous efficiency of 158.1 lm W-1, correlated color temperature of 3858 K and high color rendering index of 81.7, are obtained by combining Lu2SrAl4SiO12:Ce3+,Be2+ as the yellow emitter, CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ as the red emitter and a blue-emitting InGaN chip. These findings highlight a new strategy for performance optimization of LED phosphors by selecting rigid covalent compounds with further reinforced structural rigidity via aliovalent substitution.

Аннотация: Doping or alloying in perovskites and perovskite variants provides a promising way for modulating the electronic and photoluminescence properties and the structural stability. In this work, a series of yellow-emitting Rb2−xCsxZrCl6:Te4+ solid solution phosphors were prepared by a hydrothermal method, and their broad emission is assigned to the triplet 3P1–1S0 self-trapped excitons (STEs). Upon increasing the alloying ion Cs+, the yellow emission can be greatly enhanced by a stronger Jahn–Teller distortion. Moreover, Cs2ZrCl6:Te4+ shows a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), and impressive thermal and anti-water stability. This doping–alloying strategy presents a new direction towards designing lead-free, high-performance and stable perovskite derivatives.

Аннотация: A novel La2Mg1.14Zr0.86O6:Bi3+ double perovskite phosphor with excitation-induced blue/green photoluminescence tuning is reported. By designing Bi3+ → Eu3+ energy transfer, single-composition white light with wide-scale adjustable corrected color temperatures (CCTs) is successfully achieved. This work initiates a new insight to explore phosphors with excitation-induced photoluminescence tuning and wide CCT control for future intelligent LED lighting.

Аннотация: Here we constructed a series of novel non-centrosymmetric structure phosphors [Rb2Zn3(P2O7)2:Mn2+] by a high-temperature solid-state reaction. The multiband emission can be designed by Mn2+ preferentially occupying three types of crystallographic sites in Rb2Zn3(P2O7)2:Mn2+. The emission color could be continuously tuned from yellow-green to orange-red via multiple synergies among crystallographic site engineering, energy transfer, and Mn-Mn dimmers alone through the dopant concentration. These color-tunable phosphors have good thermal stability (I150 °C/I25 °C = 91%). The as-prepared pc-WLED has a low corresponding color temperature (CCT = 4820 K) and a high color rendering index (Ra = 90.4) with CIE color coordinates of (0.351, 0.358). These results show that emission-tunable Rb2Zn3(P2O7)2:xMn2+ phosphors are potential candidates for application in n-UV-based pc-WLED devices. This study offers a new insight for wide-range tuning of PL properties by using crystallographic site engineering through changing the doping level in Mn-activated phosphors.

Аннотация: Up-conversion (UC) phosphors of (Ca1-xSrx)In2O4 : Yb3+/Ho3+ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, 1.0) were prepared. Based on the crystal structure evolution of these series solid solution samples, which were characterized by Rietveld refinement, the variation of UC luminescent properties was discussed in detail. Sr and Ca occupied one position and Yb/Ho dissolved in the In ion site in the (Ca1-xSrx)In2O4 lattice. With increasing Sr substituting Ca atoms, the cell parameters and cell volumes of these samples increased linearly, and distortions of (Ca/Sr)O-8 polyhedron were formed. The distortions on crystal structures showed a negative relation with UC luminescent intensities in these series phosphors.

Аннотация: A novel apatite phosphor Ca6La4(SiO4)2(PO4)4O2:Eu2+ was prepared by conventional high-temperature solid-state reaction. Phase purity was examined by XRD and XPS analysis. The crystal structure information, such as space group, cell parameters and atomic coordinates, were refined by the Rietveld method, revealing that Eu2+ occupied the sites of Ca2+ ions. Moreover, low-temperature experiments, including low-temperature PL spectra and low-temperature decay curve, were used to prove the existence of two luminescence centers in Ca6La4(SiO4)2(PO4)4O2:Eu2+. With the increase in doping concentration of Eu2+, the emission wavelength shows a red shift from 498 nm to 510 nm, which is mainly caused by the increase in crystal-field splitting by Eu2+. The optimized concentration of Eu2+ was confirmed to be 0.01, the Rc was calculated to be 20.09 Å and the energy transfer between Eu2+ was demonstrated to be by exchange interaction. Moreover, good thermal stability has been proved by a temperature-dependence experiment; it shows that the phosphor can maintain 55% of emitting intensity at 150 °C compared to that at room temperature. Finally, the Ca6La4(SiO4)2(PO4)4O2:Eu2+ phosphor was fabricated with commercial red (CaAlSiN3:Eu2+) and blue (BAM:Eu2+) phosphor coating on a n-UV chip. This proves that this green phosphor has the potential to be used in a w-LED lamp.

Аннотация: Cation substitution dependent tunable bimodal photoluminescence behavior was observed in the Ca3-xSrx(PO4)2:Eu2+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) solid solution phosphors. The Rietveld refinements verified the phase purity and whitlockite type crystal structure of the solid solutions. The tunable photoluminescence evolution was studied as a function of strontium content, over the composition range 0.1 ≤ x ≤ 2. In addition to the emission band peak at 416 nm in Ca3(PO4)2:Eu2+, the substitution of Ca2+ by Sr2+ induced the emerging broad-band peak at 493-532 nm. A dramatic red shift of the emission peak located in the green-yellow region was observed on an increase of x in the samples with 0.75 ≤ x ≤ 2.00. The two emission bands could be related to the EuOn-Ca9 and EuOn-Ca9-xSrx emitting blocks, respectively. The values for the two kinds of emitting blocks in the solid solutions can be fitted well with the observed intensity evolution of the two emission peaks.

defects -- heterovalent substitution -- Mn4+ -- oxyfluoride -- phosphors
Аннотация: Defects are a double-edged sword for heterovalent metal-ion doping phosphors. Along with the luminescence tunability of phosphors bestowed by defects, their expected luminescence efficiency would also be inevitably lowered due to the presence of these quenching sites. Herein, a chemical group substitution strategy is proposed, where inorganic polyhedrons act as the smallest chemical units during the structural evolution of the doping process. Such a method can not only effectively prevent the defect generation for charge compensation in heterovalent doping systems, but also facilitate the incorporation of activators into the matrix, leading to extremely high luminescence efficiency. The concept is first confirmed energetically favorable by first-principles simulations. As a robust experimental proof, two newly reported Mn4+-incorporated hexavalent organic-inorganic hybrid oxyfluorides (TMA)2BO2F4:Mn4+ (where TMA stands for tetramethylammonium, and B = W6+ or Mo6+) present high quantum efficiency (up to 94.4%) and short lifetime (down to 2.26 ms) that are superior to the commercial red phosphor K2SiF6:Mn4+ (≈84.8%, ≈8.06 ms). Utilizing the differences in decay lifetimes and thermal quenching behaviors of (TMA)2BO2F4:Mn4+ and K2SiF6:Mn4+, a time- and temperature-resolved single-color multiplexing mode with high-safety and easy-access is developed for information security. This work offers an effective strategy to manipulate defect generation in luminescent materials.

Аннотация: Herein, Mn4+-activated Ca1-xYxAl12-xMgxO19 (x = 0-0.50) solid solutions were prepared using a conventional high-temperature solid-state reaction. Crystal structure transformation via chemical co-substitution of Y3+/Mg2+ for Ca2+/Al3+ was investigated in detail. The optical properties of Ca1-xYxAl12-xMgxO19 (x = 0-0.50) have been reported for the first time using a combination of techniques including structural refinement and luminescence measurements. Co-doping of Mg and Y cations within the CaAl12O19 host in a controlled manner resulted in the as-prepared samples with red/far-red ratio-tunable luminescence properties. The emission bands well-matched with the absorption band of phytochrome. Interestingly, enhanced Mn4+ luminescence can be obtained upon the addition of Mg2+ and Y3+. Unexpectedly, the quantum yields exhibit a slight change when x is in the range from 0.05 to 0.40; this indicates that these solid solutions have significant potential as lighting systems for plant growth.

Аннотация: Single-phase La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2: Ce3+, Tb3+ samples with apatite-like structure have been synthesized via solid-state reaction method. The phase structure, luminescence properties, lifetime, the PL thermal stability, as well as the fluorescence decay curves of the samples were investigated to characterize the resulting samples. Effective energy transfer occurs from Ce3+ to Tb3+ in La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2, which shows more intense Blue-Green light under UV light excitation. In addition, a possible mechanism of the energy-transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ ion is also proposed. The critical distance RC of Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions in La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2 host was calculated to be 11.878 Å. All the results indicate that La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2:Ce3+, Tb3+ phosphors have potential applications to be used as near UV-convertible phosphors for white light-emitting diodes. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Аннотация: The discovery of Eu2+-doped high-efficiency red phosphors remains a vital challenge for white light-emitting diode (WLED) applications. It is therefore urgent to find effective strategies managing the oxidation state to help reduce Eu3+ to Eu2+ and accordingly increase the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Herein, a new red-emitting SrLaScO4:Eu phosphor is designed, and the PLQY is enhanced from 13% to 67% under 450 nm excitation by employing (NH4)2SO4-assisted sintering. Combined structural analysis, optical spectroscopy, and theoretical calculation reveal that predominant Eu2+ prefers to occupy the Sr2+ sites in the SrLaScO4 enabling red emission, and a competitive site occupation of Eu3+ in La3+ can be restrained, and the reduction mechanism of Eu3+ to Eu2+ originating from the (NH4)2SO4 addition is analyzed. The fabricated WLED device using red-emitting SrLaScO4:Eu and yellow-emitting Y3(Al,Ga)5O12:Ce3+ exhibits a high color-rendering index of 86.7 at a low correlated color temperature of 4005 K. This work provides a feasible reduction strategy for guiding the development of high-efficiency Eu2+-doped red phosphor for WLED applications.

Аннотация: Currently, controllable luminescence tuning and the generation of single component white emission are viable strategies to modify and optimize the luminescence performances of phosphors, which offer appealing prospects for the w-LED lighting industry. In this paper, we designed two-dimensional (2D) tunable color coordinates on the CIE diagram in the Eu2+,Mn2+ doped (Ca,Sr)9xSc(PO4)7 system by a combination of crystal field regulation and the energy transfer method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld refinement were utilized to analyze the phase composition and structural variation of the studied phosphors. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence spectra were exploited to analyze the generation of nanosegregation. The effects of the schedule of cation substitutions and energy transfer on the photoluminescence properties were investigated in detail. The corresponding luminescence mechanisms of the red-shifted emission with Sr2+ → Ca2+ substitution and Eu2+ → Mn2+ energy transfer were deeply discussed and proposed. In addition, the temperature-dependent thermal quenching behavior and the electroluminescence (EL) performance of the fabricated w-LED devices were also investigated to characterize the prepared Ca9(1−0.03−x−y)Sr9xSc(PO4)7:0.27Eu2+,9yMn2+. Finally, a representative w-LED device composed of a 369 nm UV chip and Ca9(1−0.03−0.02−0.5)Sr4.5Sc(PO4)7:0.27Eu2+,0.18Mn2+ could present excellent EL performance with the parameters CRI = 88, CCT = 3122 K and color coordinate (0.45, 0.44), which could well meet the commercial standard of warm white light. Therefore, our results suggest that this two-step luminescence tuning method is feasible to be applied in other phosphor systems for obtaining efficient white emitting phosphors.

Аннотация: Scheelite related alkali-metal rare-earth double molybdate compounds with a general formula of ALn(MoO4)2 can find wide application as red phosphors. The crystal chemistry and luminescence properties of red-emitting CsGd1−xEux(MoO4)2 solid-solution phosphors have been evaluated in the present paper. A detailed analysis of the structural properties indicates the formation of isostructural scheelite-type CsGd1−xEux(MoO4)2 solid-solutions over the composition range of 0 ≤ x ≤ 1. The photoluminescence emission (PL) and excitation (PLE) spectra, and the decay curves were measured for this series of compounds. The critical doping concentration of Eu3+ is determined to be x = 0.6 in order to realize the maximum emission intensity. The emission spectra of the as-obtained CsGd(1−x)Eux(MoO4)2 phosphors show narrow high intensity red lines at 592 and 615 nm upon excitation at 394 or 465 nm, revealing great potential for applications in white light-emitting diode devices.

The phase structure, photoluminescence (PL) properties, as well as the decay curves were investigated. The quenching concentration of Eu2+ in SrAl12O19 was about 0.15 (mol). Upon excitation at 378 nm, the composition-optimized Sr0.85Al12O19:0.15Eu2+ exhibited strong broad-band green emission at 530 nm with the CIE chromaticity (0.2917, 0.5736). Аннотация: A series of iso-structural La-5(Si2+xB1-x)(O13-xNx):Ce3+ phosphors with apatite structure have been prepared. A combination of powder X-ray diffraction and neutron scattering technique was employed to explore the crystal structural evolution and the rigid nature from oxy- to oxynitride-based apatites, and some local structures were also characterized by HRTEM and Si-29 NMR data, respectively. The new La-5(Si2+xB1-x)(O13-xNx):Ce3+ solid solution phosphors gave continuously controlled emission from 421 nm [La5Si2BO13:Ce3+, end-member (x = 0)] to 463 nm (La(5)Si3O12N:Ce3+, end-member (x = 1)). Substitution of B3+ and O-2 by Si4+ and N-3 in La-5(Si2+xB1-x)(O13-xNx):Ce3+ phosphors produced more covalency into the crystal field environment around the Ce3+ ions inducing the red-shifted emission, further improving the thermal stability of the oxynitride-based apatite phosphors. The proposed approach from oxy- to oxynitride based iso-structural phases could significantly contribute to future research in designing complex solid solution phosphors.

Аннотация: A series of apatite solid solution phosphors Ca2+xLa8-x(SiO4)6-x(PO4)xO2:Eu2+ (x = 0,2,4,6) were synthesized by a conventional higherature solid-state reaction. The phase purity was examined using XRD, XPS and XRF. The crystal structure information, such as the concentration, cell parameters and occupation rate, was analyzed using a Rietveld refinement, demonstrating that the Eu2+ activated the Ca2La8(SiO4)6O2 and Ca8La2(PO4)6O2 to form continuous solid solution phosphors. Different behaviors of luminescence evolution in response to structural variation were verified among the series of phosphors. Two kinds of Eu2+ ion sites were proved using low temperature PL spectra (8k) and room temperature decay curves. The substitution of large La3+ ions by small Ca2+ ions induced a decreased crystal field splitting of the Eu2+ ions, which caused an increase in emission energy from the 5d excited state to the 4f ground state and a resultant blue-shift from 508 nm to 460 nm. Therefore, with the crystal structure evolution, the emitted color of the series of phosphors could be tuned from green to blue by adjusting the ratio of Ca/La. © 2016 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Аннотация: Hydrothermally reacting Lu(NO)3 and Na2WO4·2H2O at 200 °C and pH = 8 produced the new compound NaLuW2O8·2H2O, which was analyzed via the Rietveld technique to crystallize in the orthorhombic system (space group: Cmmm) with cell parameters a = 21.655(1), b = 5.1352(3), and c = 3.6320(2) Å and cell volume V = 403.87(4) Å3. The crystal structure presents -(NaO6)-(NaO6)- and -(LuO4(H2O)2WO5)-(LuO4(H2O)2WO5)- alternating layers linked together by the O2- ion common to NaO6 octahedron and WO5 triangle bipyramid. Tetragonal structured and phase-pure Na(Lu0.87Ln0.03Yb0.1)(WO4)2 phosphors (Ln = Ho, Er, and Tm) were directly produced by calcining their NaLuW2O8·2H2O analogous precursors at 600 °C for 2 h, followed by a detailed study of their downconversion/upconversion (DC/UC) photoluminescence. It was shown that the UC luminescence is dominated by a red band at ∼650 nm for Ho3+ (5F5 →5I8 transition), green bands at ∼500-575 nm for Er3+ (2H11/2/4S3/2 →4I15/2 transitions) and a blue band at ∼476 nm for Tm3+ (1G4 →3H6 transition), all via a three-photon process. DC luminescence of the phosphors is characterized by a ∼545 nm green emission for Ho3+ (5F4/5S2 →5I8 transition, ex = 453 nm), ∼500-575 nm green emissions for Er3+ (2H11/2/4S3/2 →4I15/2 transitions, ex = 380 nm), and a ∼455 nm blue emission for Tm3+ (1D2 →3F4 transition, ex = 360 nm), with CIE chromaticity coordinates of around (0.27, 0.71), (0.26, 0.72), and (0.15, 0.04), respectively.

Аннотация: Ce3+/Li+, Eu2+ singly doped and Ce3+/Li+/Eu2+-co-doped CaSrAl2SiO7 phosphors have been prepared using the conventional solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure of the melilite-type CaSrAl2SiO7 phase and the preferred crystallographic positions of the doped ions were refined using the Rietveld method. The luminescence properties and energy transfer of CaSrAl2SiO7:Ce3+, Li+, Eu2+ were studied in detail. The Ce3+/Li+ activated CaSrAl2SiO7 phosphor has a strong absorption band in the range of 200-450 nm and shows a blue emission centered at 477 nm. When Eu2+ ions are co-doped with Ce3+/Li+, the emission color of CaSrAl2SiO7:Ce3+, Li+, Eu2+ phosphors under the irradiation of 365 nm can be tuned from blue to green via the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu2+ ions. Also the involved energy transfer process and the corresponding mechanism between Ce3+ and Eu2+ have been discussed in detail. These results indicate that the as-reported CaSrAl2SiO7:Ce3+, Li+, Eu2+ phosphors have potential applications in near-UV chip pumped white LEDs.
