Аннотация: We report a Raman scattering study of single-crystalline homometallic oxyborate Mn2OBO3, a compound realizing a one-dimensional ribbon-structure. Phonon excitations as a function of temperature and light polarization are compared to lattice dynamical calculations, giving evidence for a strong coupling between lattice and magnetic degrees of freedom. Furthermore, a broader feature with a distinct structure emerges at low temperatures. Based on our theoretical analysis, we assign this signal to specific two-magnon scattering processes related to high energy flat-band magnon branches.Досліджено раманівське розсіювання в монокристалі гомометалічного оксиборату Mn2OBO3 — сполуки, в якій реалізується одномірна стрічкова структура. Температурна та поляризаційна залежності фононних збуджень у порівнянні з розрахунками динаміки ґратки свідчать про сильний зв’язок між ґратковими та магнітними ступенями свободи. Широка спектральна особливість з виразною структурою виникає, крім того, при низьких температурах. Ґрунтуючись на теоретичному аналізі, цей сигнал віднесено до специфічних процесів двомагнонного розсіювання, що пов’язаний з високо-енергетичними магнонними вітками з «плоскою» дисперсією.Исследовано рамановское рассеяние в монокристалле гомометаллического оксибората Mn2OBO3 — соединения, в котором реализуется одномерная ленточная структура. Температурная и поляризационная зависимость фононных возбуждений в сравнении с расчетами динамики решетки свидетельствуют о сильной связи между решеточными и магнитными степенями свободы. Широкая спектральная особенность с отчетливой структурой возникает, кроме того, при низких температурах. Основываясь на теоретическом анализе, этот сигнал отнесен к специфическим процессам двухмагнонного рассеяния, связанным с высокоэнергетическими магнонными ветвями с «плоской» дисперсией.

Аннотация: New ternary molybdate NaPbLa(1-x-y)(MoO4)3:xEr3+,yYb3+ (x = y = 0, x = 0.05 and y = 0.35, 0.4, 0.45 and 0.5) phosphors were successfully fabricated by the MSG (microwave sol-gel) method, and the microstructural and spectroscopic properties were characterized. The crystal structure of NaPbLa(MoO4)3 (NPLM) was defined by Rietveld analysis in space group I41/a with unit cell parameters a = 5.3735(2) and c = 11.8668(4) Å, V = 342.65(3) Å3, Z = 4 (RB = 6.64%). The unit cell volume of NaPbLa(MoO4)3 (NPLM) was intermediate between those of NaLa(MoO4)2 and PbMoO4. Under the 980 nm excitation, upconverted yellowish-green emissions at transitions from 2H11/2 and 4S3/2 were observed. No concentration quenching in the subsystem of donor ions at the content up to 50 at.% and no cross-relaxation losses in the subsystem of acceptor ions at the concentrations as high as 5 at. % were verified. The individual chromaticity points for the NaPbLa(MoO4)3:Er3+,Yb3+ phosphors, corresponding to the equal-energy point in the standard CIE diagram, revealed yellowish-green emissions.

Аннотация: We report on findings in the HoFe3(BO3)4 single crystal across structural phase transition by the dielectric and Raman spectroscopic measurements. In most of the compounds of RFe3(BO3)4 (R=La-Lu) family low temperature P3121 structure is introduced through structural phase transition (from space group R32). Temperature dependent dielectric measurements on the HoFe3(BO3)4 crystal depicts a step like feature at the structural phase transition at ?366 K. The Raman spectroscopy study also confirms the structural transition around this temperature. A clear signature of structural transition is reflected in the Raman spectra, mainly in the frequency range (200-400 cm-1). Appearance of new Raman modes below the transition temperature also indicates that the transition is from a high symmetry phase to a low symmetry phase.

Аннотация: A method for functional patterning of facets of a nonlinear crystal using focused ion beam milling has been developed. The near-field diffraction on periodic gratings has been experimentally and theoretically studied. The periodicity of the structure enables Talbot self-imaging at the fundamental and second-harmonic frequencies simultaneously. Spatial interference patterns for both harmonic frequencies are individual ones, which can enable the higher-accuracy optical testing, coupling the radiation at both frequencies, and wavelength-division demultiplexing. The impact of the aperture effect on a Talbot carpet is discussed.

Аннотация: RbEu(MoO4)2 is synthesized by the two-step solid state reaction method. The crystal structure of RbEu(MoO4)2 is defined by Rietveld analysis in space group Pbcn with cell parameters a = 5.13502(5), b = 18.8581(2) and c = 8.12849(7) Å, V = 787.13(1) Å3, Z = 4 (RB = 0.86%). This molybdate possesses its phase transition at 817 K and melts at 1250 K. The Raman spectra were measured with the excitation at λ = 1064 and 514.5 nm. The photoluminescence spectrum is evaluated under the excitation at 514.5 nm. The absolute domination of hypersensitive 5D0→7F2 transition is observed. The ultranarrow 5D0→7F0 transition in RbEu(MoO4)2 is positioned at 580.2 nm being 0.2 nm blue shifted, with respect to that in Eu2(MoO4)3.

Аннотация: Here we present Raman spectroscopy approach to monitor the spatial distribution and the magnitude of the residual mechanical stresses in ceramic after non-hydrostatic pressure treatments. The residual pressure can be found from the E-phonon line shift (∼307 cm−1) in the Raman spectra. The relationship between the non-hydrostatic pressure (up to 11 GPa) and the shift of this line has been established. It is demonstrated that the change in the Raman line position (1332 cm−1) of the diamond anvil can be used for monitoring of applied non-hydrostatic pressures. A linear dependence of residual mechanical stresses on the applied pressures is found. Micro-Raman spectroscopy shows that the residual mechanical stresses are distributed fairly uniformly in the studied BaTiO3 samples at the micron scale. In the future, the proposed Raman technique can be used for monitoring the quality of produced BaTiO3 ceramics.

Аннотация: A comparative analysis of two Raman line-shape functions has been carried out to validate the true representation of experimentally observed Raman scattering data for semiconducting nanomaterials. A modified form of already existing phonon confinement model (PCM) incorporates two basic considerations, phonon momentum conservation and shift in zone centre phonon frequency. After incorporation of the above mentioned two factors, a rather symmetric Raman line-shape is generated which is in contrary to the usual asymmetric Raman line-shapes obtained from nanostructured semiconductor. By fitting an experimentally observed Raman scattering data from silicon nanostructures, prepared by metal induced etching, it can be established that the Raman line-shape obtained within the framework of PCM is a true representative Raman line-shape of sufficiently low dimensions semiconductors.

Аннотация: The ε-Fe2O3 iron oxide is a fairly rare polymorphic modification, which only exists in the form of nanoparticles embedded, as a rule, into a silica gel matrix. This magnetically ordered iron oxide, which exhibits a significant room-temperature coercivity, is a ferroelectric; therefore, the magnetoelectric and magnetodielectric properties of this material evoke keen interest. In this work, we investigate the magnetodielectric (MD) effect in a metamaterial consisting of xerogel SiO2 with embedded ε-Fe2O3 nanoparticles 9 nm in size on average in a concentration of 20 mass.%. This bulk material exhibits the MD effect in a wide temperature range. The temperature behavior of the permittivity is related to the magnetic state of the ε-Fe2O3 oxide, which undergoes the magnetic transition from the magnetically hard to magnetically soft phase in the temperature range of 80–150 K, indicating the interplay of the ε-Fe2O3 magnetic and charge subsystems.

Аннотация: The Raman spectra of Rb2KLuF6 elpasolite crystal have been studied in a wide temperature range, including two phase transitions: from the cubic phase to the tetragonal phase and then to the monoclinic phase. The results of an analysis of the temperature dependences of the parameters of spectral lines are in good agreement with the thermodynamic data on the phase transitions. The analysis of Raman spectra shows that the transition from cubic to tetragonal phase is a second-order transition and the transition from the tetragonal to the monoclinic phase is a weak first-order transition.

Аннотация: Raman spectra of manganese monosulphide (α-MnS) with NaCl structure in the temperature range 5–300 К are presented. A new peak at 22 cm–1 has been found at low temperatures. The temperature dependence of this peak made possible to attribute it to the magnon mode at k = 0. This is in good agreement with the magnon wavenumber calculated with Munich SPRKKR-package.

Аннотация: Low frequency Raman spectra of (Pb0.97La0.02)(Zr0.864Sn0.04Ti0.096)O3 ceramic samples have been studied near cubic to antiferroelectric phase transition at about 200 °C. A set of low frequency soft modes were observed restoring below the transition point, in addition to the known one above 100cm-1. These modes show strong damping anomalies at the transition point that supposes considerable intermode interactions via dampings. © 2019 The Author(s).

Аннотация: The Raman spectra of an Rb2KLuF6 crystal are studied in the temperature range from 8 to 375 K, which includes two phase transitions: one of which proceeds from a cubic to a tetragonal phase, while the other transition takes place from a tetragonal to a monoclinic phase. An analysis of the temperature dependences of parameters of spectral lines shows that the former transition is of the second kind, while the latter transition is of the first kind, close to the tricritical point. It is shown that the structural phase transitions in the Rb2KLuF6 double perovskite are not associated with disordering. The former transition is associated with rotations of LuF6 octahedra around the fourth-order axis, while the latter transition is related with rotations of octahedra and displacements of rubidium ions.

Аннотация: A bias-dependent in situ Raman scattering and UV–Vis absorption spectroscopic change has been correlated with the corresponding color change of an electrochromic device in an attempt to explain how to understand the relationship between actual perceived color and its absorption/transmittance spectra. For this, the bias across an electrochromic device was increased gradually, rather than abruptly turning ON and OFF, to see subtle variations in Raman and absorption spectra due to bias. Raman scattering establishes that viologen changes its oxidation state reversibly between two redox species (EV2+ to EV+•) as a result of bias-induced dynamic redox process. A gradual variation in Raman and absorption spectra, which shows maximum absorption corresponding to the yellow light, accompanies similar variation in color change of the device as visible by naked eye. These spectroscopic results are correlated with the perceived blue color, in the reflected light, by the eye to understand the actual reason behind this. Maximum absorption of yellow light by the device resulting in blue appearance has been explained using the concept of additive and subtractive primary colors.

Аннотация: Hematite, α-Fe2O3, is a canted antiferromagnet with the Neel temperature of 960 K. The Morin transition, which occurs when the temperature is lowered to ∼260 K, when the magnetic moments of the sublattices become strictly antiparallel to each other and the resulting magnetic moment disappears, is a characteristic feature of this compound. Detailed investigations are presented here of the magneto-optical effects in the α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles in the transmitted light and in the α-Fe2O3 single crystal in the reflected light. Two types of magneto-optic features were revealed in the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectrum. Some of them described by the Gauss line shape were associated with one-ion d-d transitions. Others were described by the S-shaped line with the inflection points corresponding to the absorption maxima. Last features were assigned to the pair exciton-magnon transitions. An exceptionally strong S-shaped line at 2.0-2.5 eV appeared to be a unique feature of α-Fe2O3 distinguishing it from other iron oxide compounds. The origin of the high effectiveness of the pair exciton-magnon interaction giving rise to this strong S-shaped feature in the MCD spectrum of α-Fe2O3 is discussed.
