Аннотация:
The structural phase transition (PT) of elpasolite-type crystal Cs//2NaBiCl//6 is investigated by neutron
scattering
. At first the acoustic phonon dispersion is measured at room temperature for the high-symmetric directions DELTA , SIGMA , and LAMBDA of the Brillouin zone. The transverse rotary mode is studied for phonon wave vectors q parallel as well as perpendicular to DELTA and the dispersion shows a quasi-two-dimensional behavior of the Cl-octahedra rotation. At cooling down to the PT, this branch shows a softening along DELTA , reaching the lowest energies at the zone center. The PT, which is found to be of weakly first order, seems to be driven and triggered by the ferrorotative octahedra mode.

Аннотация:
A scale-invariant theory of resonant Rayleigh
scattering
by fractal clusters is developed. Our main result is that the
scattering
cross section is greatly enhanced, because of the presence of very high local fields, which are correlated and strongly fluctuating. Simulations dealing with two examples of fractal structures, namely, random walk and cluster-cluster aggregates, are presented. The numerical results confirm the theoretical predictions of the scaling behavior for both absorption and
scattering
, and allow us to obtain the corresponding exponents. In addition to the results for
scattering
, the large scale of the simulations of the present work provides a comprehensive confirmation and a substantial extension of a recent study by Markel, Muratov, Stockman, and George [Phys. Rev. B 43, 8183 (1991)].

Аннотация:
Neutron-diffraction studies on modulated Rb2ZnBr4, carried out under hydrostatic pressure, revealed two new commensurate phases characterized by wave vectors q = 2/7b* and q = 1/4b*, respectively. The first order phase transition between them is revealed by the coexistence of two distinct peaks in the diffraction pattern. The observed pressure-temperature phase diagram contains: the above-mentioned phases, the ferroelectric commensurate phase q = 1/3, and a region characterized by wave-vector values in the interval q = 2/7-1/3. In this region the modulation wave vector exhibits stepwise behavior as a function of pressure, but remains nearly constant iii temperature runs. We have found in this region a characteristic memory effect in which two temperature runs performed at the same pressure lead to two different modulation wave-vector values, while only the thermal history of the sample is different in the two runs. At ambient pressure we confirm the presence of a multipeaked diffraction pattern just above the lock-in transition to the commensurate q = 1/3 phase. At 122 K the phase transition from the 1/3 phase to the 1/4 phase is detected in pressure scans. The transition mechanism involves the q = 2/7 phase, at least as a metastable intermediate phase.

Аннотация:
A scale-invariant theory of Raman
scattering
of light by fractal clusters is developed. The enhancement factor G(RS) of Raman
scattering
is shown to scale in terms of a properly chosen spectral variable X. The critical indices of the enhancement factor are found to be determined by the optical spectral dimension of the fractal. Numerical modeling is carried out and shown to support the analytical results obtained. The theory, which does not contain any adjustable parameters, agrees well with experimental data on surface-enhanced Raman
scattering
over a wide spectral range.

Neutron
scattering
experiments have been employed to study the spin-wave excitations and the critical behaviour of sublattice magnetization of a single crystal Bi2CuO4. Dispersion law for spin waves along the tetragonal axis of crystal is determined. There were found two branches of spin waves which are characterized by the energy gaps DELTA-1 congruent-to 1.7 meV and DELTA-2 congruent-to 4.0 meV, respectively. The value of critical exponent beta = 0.36 + 0.08 reflects the 3D character of the magnetic ordering in Bi2CuO4. Observed two spin-wave branches are described on the basis of the anisotropic tetragonal spin-Hamiltonian with four-sites exchange interaction.

Аннотация:
The resonance absorption in Bi2CuO4 single crystals was found in the frequency range 35-80 GHz for H(perpendicular-to)C4 Case and it was absent for H(parallel-to)C4 case. The frequency-field dependence for H(perpendicular-to)C4 case at 4.2 K is typical for easy-plane antiferromagnets with weak magnetic anisotropy in this plane. In contrast to the sublattice magnetization of Bi2CuO4 the resonance parameters depend strongly on the temperature below 20 K. Besides, the resonance field has a considerable jump at TN which ls not typical for second order phase transitions.

Аннотация:
Strong fluctuations of local fields may result in very large optical nonlinearities in small-particle composites. Enhancement associated with particle clustering is found for a number of optical processes, including four-wave mixing (FWM), third-harmonic generation (THG), Raman
scattering
, and nonlinear refraction and absorption in Kerr media. Field fluctuations and optical nonlinear susceptibilities are especially large in fractal clusters. The enhancement of optical processes is expressed in terms of the resonant linear absorption by collective dipolar eigenmodes in a cluster, and quality factors, q, of the modes (q much greater than 1). It is shown that the susceptibility of a composite material consisting of random small-particle clusters is proportional to q(3) for Raman
scattering
and the Kerr optical nonlinearity, and to q(4) and q(6) for THG and FWM, respectively. For all of these processes, a spectral dependence of the effective susceptibility is found. Broad-scale numerical simulations of the optical response in small-particle composites are performed to complement the theory. The simulations are in reasonable agreement with available experimental data.

Аннотация:
Theoretical XAFS spectra of highly correlated copper oxides have been presented as a product of a single-electron part obtained by the SCF X alpha- SW method, and a multi-electron part obtained by the multi-band multi-electron p-d model. The main line of CuK-spectrum of La2CuO4 was aligned to the Cud(10) (L) under bar configuration and the single satellite line was aligned to the Cud(9). Comparison of the theoretical data with the experimental ones shows that the ground state of the two-holes in the CuO4 doped cell is triplet. The last conclusion has been confirmed by analysis of CuL2,3-spectra of two-hole impurity states of doped CuO4 cell. Another interesting future of CuL2,3-spectra a peak 2.8 eV higher the threshold was aligned to the transitions into quasi-stationary states due to existence of a high barrier in the Cud-state potential.
