Аннотация:
The Raman spectra of the elpasolite (Rb2KInF6) crystal have been studied in the pressure range from 0 to 5.3 GPa at a temperature of 295 K. A phase transition at a pressure of approximately 0.9 GPa has been found. An analysis of the variations in the spectral parameters has led to the conclusion that the phase transition to a distorted phase is accompanied by the doubling of the volume of the primitive cell of the initial cubic phase. Numerical calculations of the lattice dynamics in the Rb2KInF6 crystal have been performed. The numerical simulation has established that the phase transition at a pressure of 0.9 GPa is associated with condensation of the F (lg) mode. A probable high-pressure phase is the phase with space group C2/m.

A microwave detector based on a self-sustained oscillator circuit is proposed as a means to investigate the real and imaginary components of the dielectric permittivity of liquid
crystals
in external electric and magnetic fields. Results are given for measurements of a 500 MHz oscillator frequency for two types of nematic
crystals
, 5CBP and MBBA. Fundamental regularities are identified in the behavior of the microwave dielectric permittivity of samples in electric and magnetic fields. It is shown that the minimum of the high-frequency dielectric loss in liquid
crystals

The results of a study of the transport and magnetic properties of some sulfides of 3d elements are reported. The concentration transitions with a change of conductivity type and a change of magnetic order are considered, and the features of the colossal magnetoresistance in FexMn1-xS and CuVxCr1-xS2 solid solutions are discussed.

In recent years interest has been shown in

with the scheelite structure (point symmetry group 4/m) as promising materials for acoustooptic devices. However, nearly all the work done so far has been on the NaBi(MoO4)2 and PbMoO4
crystals
. In this paper the authors give the results of a study of the elastic and acoustooptic properties of NaBi(WO4)2 and LiBi(MoO4)2
crystals
from a series of isomorphic compounds with the scheelite structure carried out in order to determine the extent of the changes in the elastic and acoustooptic properties of this series of
crystals
when the structural elements are changed.

A variety of the known structures of perovskite-like
crystals
including cation- and anion-deficient phases were considered as the intergrowth systems of slabs containing n-layers (n = 1,2, 3,...infinity) of corner-linked octahedra BX6, pyramids EX5 or square-planar nets BX4 (B-cation, X- anion) linked by intermediate blocks of different types.([1- 3]) Some new structural types and new representatives of ferroelectrics, ferroelastics and HTSC's can be constructed on this basis. The prognosis of new possible representatives in Ruddlesden-Popper's family is discussed.

Аннотация:
The structures of the well-known perovskite-like
crystals
, including stoichiometric and both cation- and anion-dencient compounds, are considered as intergrowth systems of stacks consisting either of n layers (n = 1 - ?) connected via the vertices of the BX6 octahedra or of combinations of layers of octahedra, BX5 pyramids, and planar networks of BX4 squares with intermediate block layers of various types. The classification of stacks and block layers in these structures is suggested. Based on this classification, the known structure types are considered and new structure types, including various possible superconductor structures, are predicted.

Аннотация:
A system of mutual relationships (a hierarchy) is constructed between various perovskite-like crystal structures based on available structural data. All the perovskite-like structures are characterized by a common indicator of their relationship-the presence of layers, stacks, or frameworks made up of BX6 octahedra linked at their vertices (where B is a cation, X is an anion) or fragments of octahedra in the form of BX5 pyramids or BX4 squares in anion-deficient compounds. In layered structures, these stacks are joined to each other by various intermediate blocks. It is well known that one homological series of compounds is constructed by increasing the number of layers in a stack while preserving the same kind of connecting block.
Crystals
of various series that contain identical stacks (but different blocks of one or two types) can also be related to one another via this feature. The hierarchical system includes compounds with small distortions in their structures for various reasons. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

The possible combinations of different octahedral tilts are considered for layered
crystals
having an even number of octahedral layers in perovskite-like slabs. A simple method to determine the resultant space-group symmetry is proposed, and the distorted phases are enumerated, both for a single kind of tilt around axes of the initial structure G 0=I4/mmm and for superpositions of different tilts in the slabs. Some of the tilt systems correspond to symmetry changes due to definite irreducible representations of G 0. In the single-layered
crystals
, l=1, A 2BX 4. Some of the representations correspond to lattice modes observed experimentally. No such modes have been found yet for even-layered (l=2n)
crystals
. A comparison with known experimental data is performed. The data obtained can be used for the proposition of 'trial models' in the course of structural analysis of related

Аннотация:
Sequences of phase transitions (PT's) related to α-K2SO4 prototype (G0) are considered as the ordered phases mainly due to orientational ordering of tetrahedral groups. Possibilities of statistical models with four and twelve states in G0 are compared. Last model allows to describe PT's from G0 to all known relative structures including K2MoO4-, Sr2GeS4- and Na2SO4III-types. PT's in CsLiCrO4, Cs2CdI4 and sequence of PT's in KLiSO4 are considered as examples.

Аннотация:
The crystallographic and group theoretical analysis of the structural phase transitions in perovskite and perovskite-like
crystals
is reviewed. We include ABX(3) perovskites and their relative
crystals
of ReO3 type (G(0) = O-h(1)), elpasolites, cryolites and their relatives (G(0) = O-h(5)) layered
crystals
of TIAIF(4) series (G(0) = D-4h(1)), Aurivillius and Ruddlesden-Popper series (G(0) = D-4h(17)). The structures in their initial phase G(0) often contain n layers (n = 1, 2,3) of vertex linked octahedra. The distorted phases produced by one kind of tilt and by superposition of tilts in the slabs are enumerated. Most of the tilts correspond to symmetry changes, which can be associated to definite librational lattice modes irreducible representations of the G(0) group. The softening of modes associated to the PT has been found experimentally in many perovskites, elpasolites and layered
crystals
with n = 1. In contrast, no such soft modes have been found yet for even-layered (n = 2)
crystals
. Examples of successive phase transitions due to the superposition of tilts in these types of
crystals
have been collected.
