Аннотация: Modern X-ray methods obtain in a short time the complete set of structural amplitudes and solve a crystal structure at constant temperatures (or pressures) on both sides of phase transition. A review of structure investigations with the crystals having the common formula Me prime Me double prime BX//4 (Me prime , Me double prime equals Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, NH//4 and H; BX//4**2** plus equals SO//4, SeO//4, BeF//4, ZnCl//4) is presented.

Аннотация: For the example of ferroelectrics and ferroelastics, the results of precision structural investigations performed above and below the phase-transition point are discussed. The structural features of some crystals with disproportionate phases are considered. Numerous examples have shown that anomalously high thermal factors of certain atoms may indicate potential instability of the structure of the given crystal and thereby also a tendency to distortion with change in thermodynamic conditions. This must be taken into account in further structural work.

Аннотация: The structural phase transition P63/mmc → P63cm in hexagonal YGaO3 crystal is studied by first-principles methods. From lattice dynamics calculations it was obtained that the mechanism of transition into polar phase is similar to the one in isostructural YMnO3 crystal. As a result of calculations the improper ferroelectricity and electrical polarization were revealed in YGaO3.

Аннотация: The role of anisotropy of the thermal expansion in formation of piezocaloric effect (PCE) near ferroelectric phase transitions in NH4HSO4 was studied. Strong difference in linear baric coefficients and as a result in intensive and extensive PCE associated with the different crystallographic axes was found. PCE giving the main contribution to the barocaloric effect were determined at both phase transitions. Rather strong effect of the lattice dilatation on the tuning of PCE was observed. Comparative analysis of PCE at the phase transitions in different materials showed that NH4HSO4 can be considered as a promising solid-state refrigerant. A hypothetical cooling cycle based on alternate using uniaxial pressure along two axes was considered.

Аннотация: The ferroelectric properties of bismuth pyrostannate Bi2(Sn0.85Cr0.15)2O7 in the high-temperature region are established. The linear thermal expansion coefficient, electrical resistance, impedance, I−V characteristics, capacitance, loss-angle tangent, charge, and thermopower of the investigated material are measured in the temperature range of 300−700 K at frequencies of 102−106 Hz. Anomalies of the thermal expansion coefficient and hodograph spectrum variation in the region of polymorphic phase transitions are observed. The high resistance and change of the hopping conductivity for the tunnel-emission are found. The hysteresis in the electric field dependence of polarization is established. The change in the thermopower sign with temperature is revealed. The obtained experimental data are explained in the framework of the model of migration polarization by charged chromium ions.

Аннотация: The Lorentz tensor components L (j) for poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene, 70/30) Langmuir-Blodgett films in the ferroelectric phase are determined experimentally. The results indicate that intralayer dipole-dipole interaction between the segments of the polymer is stronger than interlayer interaction. This conclusion agrees with the absence of the critical film thickness below which ferroelectricity would cease to exist.

Аннотация: The heat capacity and thermal expansion of the PbTiO3 ceramic sample have been measured in the temperature range 80–970 K. The electrocaloric and barocaloric efficiencies of lead titanate in the ferroelectric phase transition range have been investigated by analyzing the experimental data in terms of the thermodynamic theory of phase transitions, the electrical equation of state P(T, E), the Pippard equation, and the S(T, p) diagram.

Аннотация: Ceramic volumetric composites xLa(0.7)Pb(0.3)MnO(3)-(1-x)PbTiO3 (x = 0.18 and 0.85) were prepared. X-ray investigations have shown that rather low sintering temperature (800 degrees C) has allowed us to avoid the reaction and interdiffusion between two initial phases. Heat capacity, thermal expansion, and intensive magnetocaloric effect were measured in a wide temperature range. The sample composition has a low influence on temperatures of the ferromagnetic and ferroelectric phase transitions in composites. Electro- and barocaloric effects were determined by analysis in the framework of thermodynamic theory, electric equation of state, Maxwell relationships, and entropy-temperature-pressure phase diagram. Multicaloric efficiency of composites is discussed and compared with that of initial La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 and PbTiO3 compounds. Variation of a relationship between components can significantly increase both barocaloric and magnetocaloric efficiency of compositional material due to the mechanical stress appearing between grains of different ferroic phases under magnetic field.
