Заглавие : Tailoring the preferable orientation relationship and shape of α-FeSi2nanocrystals on Si(001): The impact of gold and the Si/Fe flux ratio, and the origin of α/Si boundaries
Место публикации : CrystEngComm. - 2020. - Vol. 22, Is. 23. - P.3943-3955. - ISSN 14668033 (ISSN), DOI 10.1039/d0ce00399a
Примечания : Cited References: 52. - The experimental part of the reported study was funded by the Russian Science Foundation, project no. 16-13-00060-Π. Аннотация: The growth of α-FeSi2 nanocrystal ensembles on gold-activated and gold-free Si(001) surfaces at different Si/Fe flux ratios via molecular beam epitaxy is reported. The study reveals that the utilisation of gold as a catalyst regulates the preferable orientation relationship (OR) of the nanocrystals to silicon and their morphology at a given Si/Fe flux ratio. α-FeSi2 free-standing crystals with continuously tuned sizes from 30 nm up to several micrometres can be grown with an α(001)//Si(001) basic OR under gold-assisted conditions and an α(111)//Si(001) OR under gold-free growth conditions on a Si(001) surface. The preferred morphology of nanocrystals with a particular OR can be altered through changes to the Si/Fe flux ratio. Herein, the microstructure and basic OR between the silicide nanocrystals and the silicon substrate, and the formation of nanocrystal facets were analysed in detail with the help of microscopic techniques and simulation methods based on the analysis of near coincidence site (NCS) distributions at silicide/silicon interfaces. On the basis of the simulations used, we managed to reveal the nature of the interfaces observed for the main types of α-FeSi2 nanocrystals grown. Three types of interfaces typical for nanoplates with an α(001)//Si(001) basic OR, which are (i) stepped, (ii) stressed, and (iii) flat, are explained based on the tendency for the NCS density to increase at the interface. The results presented reveal the potential for the bottom-up fabrication of α-FeSi2 nanocrystals with tuned physical properties as potentially important contact materials and as building blocks for future nanoelectronic devices.

Аннотация: Among the new coal technologies the burning of low-grade coal in the form of coal-water slurry fuel (CWSF) is of a great interest. The basis of CWSF is a highly concentrated coal-water slurry consisting of finely ground coal, water or other liquid and plasticizing agents. The development of CWSF technology is highly relevant for solving global problems of resource conservation and ecology. The study is dedicated to CWSF properties with respect to Kansk-Achinsk coal and water. This paper presents the results of the influence of CWSF's preliminary cavitation water treatment on the combustion dynamics of fuel, (including the features of the combustion temperature trends, delayed ignition time and time of complete combustion) and on its environmental characteristics. A rotary-type hydrodynamic oscillator at high angular velocity (10000 rpm) was used in supercavitation mode. It is shown that the technology of cavitation water treatment leads to a change in the dynamics of CWSF's combustion and to an additional decrease in NOx emissions by 1.6 times, CO2 by 1.3 times.

Аннотация: For the first time, lonsdaleite-rich impact diamonds from one of the largest Popigai impact crater (Northern Siberia) with a high concentration of structural defects are investigated under hydrostatic compression up to 25 GPa. It is found that, depending on the nature of a sample, the bulk modulus for lonsdaleite experimentally obtained by X-ray diffraction in diamond-anvil cells is systematically lower and equal to 93.3–100.5% of the average values of the bulk moduli of a diamond matrix. Density functional theory calculations reveal possible coexistence of a number of diamond/lonsdaleite and twin diamond biphases. Among the different mutual configurations, separate inclusions of one lonsdaleite (001) plane per four diamond (111) demonstrate the lowest energy per carbon atom, suggesting a favorable formation of single-layer lonsdaleite (001) fragments inserted in the diamond matrix. Calculated formation energies and experimental diamond (311) and lonsdaleite (331) powder X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that all biphases could be formed under high-temperature, high-pressure conditions. Following the equation of states, the bulk modulus of the diamond (111)/lonsdaleite (001) biphase is the largest one among all bulk moduli, including pristine diamond and lonsdaleite.

Заглавие : Low-temperature deformation and fracture of Cr-Mn-N stainless steel: Tensile and impact bending tests
Место публикации : Metals. - 2023. - Vol. 13, Is. 1. - Ст.95. - ISSN 20754701 (eISSN), DOI 10.3390/met13010095

Аннотация: The paper presents the results of tensile and impact bending tests of 17%Cr-19%Mn-0.53%N high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel in temperatures ranging from −196 to 20 °C. The steel microstructure and fracture surfaces were investigated using transmission and scanning electron microscopes, as well as X-ray diffraction analysis. The steel experiences a ductile-to-brittle transition (DBT); however, it possessed high tensile and impact strength characteristics, as well as the ductile fracture behavior at temperatures down to −114 °C. The correspondence between γ–ε microstructure and fracture surface morphologies was revealed after the tensile test at the temperature of −196 °C. In this case, the transgranular brittle and layered fracture surface was induced by ε-martensite formation. Under the impact bending test at −196 °C, the brittle intergranular fracture occurred at the elastic deflection stage without significant plastic strains, which preceded a failure due to the high internal stresses localized at the boundaries of the austenite grains. The stresses were induced by: (i) segregation of nitrogen atoms at the grain boundaries and in the near-boundary regions, (ii) quenching stresses, and (iii) reducing fcc lattice volume with the test temperature decrease and incorporation of nitrogen atoms into fcc austenite lattice. Anisotropy of residual stresses was revealed. This was manifested in the localization of elastic deformations of the fcc lattice and, consequently, the stress localization in 100-oriented grains; this is suggested to be the reason of brittle cleavage fracture.

Аннотация: The results of a study of water absorption processes by samples of polymer composite materials (PCMs) based on fiberglass, subjected to low-speed impact with controlled impact energy and alternating temperature cycling are presented. Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the distribution of absorbed water in the fiberglass structure is visualized and the dynamics of its accumulation in various areas of the sample are studied. It is found that mechanical impact leads to a nonuniform distribution of the absorbed water in the samples and a significant accumulation of free water in the areas of destruction and adjacent layers in the event of a violation of the integrity of the outer layer of the material. It is shown that cyclic alternating temperature effects do not lead to a noticeable change in the water absorption processes and are comparable in effect to mechanical nondestructive impacts. The results obtained using MRI are in close agreement with the data of traditional weight measurements, which shows the effectiveness of the method in diagnosing defects and mechanical damage to PCMs exposed to the humid environment.

Заглавие : Effect of helical rolling on the bainitic microstructure and impact toughness of the low-carbon microalloyed steel
Место публикации : Mater. Sci. Eng. A. - 2021. - Vol. 816. - Ст.141275. - ISSN 09215093 (ISSN), DOI 10.1016/j.msea.2021.141275
Примечания : Cited References: 43
Аннотация: Ferrite-bainite microstructures and impact toughness of the X65 low-carbon microalloyed steel were investigated after helical rolling at 1000, 920, 850, and 810 °C followed by continuous cooling in air. After helical rolling at 1000 °C, granular bainite with large areas of the massive-shape martensite-austenite constituent (d = 1.5 μm) and a high fraction of twinned martensite (d › 2.0 μm) were observed in the steel. This caused a decrease in impact energy at low test temperatures (for example, 70 J at –70°С). Lowering the helical rolling temperature contributed to a reduction of dimensions of both ferrite-bainite and martensite-austenite constituent areas, as well as the replacement of the latter by a slender type one and an improvement in fracture toughness at the low temperatures. The highest impact energy level (210 J at –70 °C) was achieved after helical rolling at 850 °C due to the formation of a homogeneous microstructure, which included dispersed ferrite grains, granular bainite and small fractions of the slender type martensite-austenite constituent (d = 0.1–0.7 μm). In this case, areas of twinned martensite were absent.
