Аннотация: Cationic substitution is a common material modification strategy. Generally, it follows the principles of radius matching, valency equilibrium and stoichiometric substitution. However, radius-mismatched, nonstoichiometric-ratio ion substitution can achieve unexpected experimental results. Such unexpected results are very important for expanding the research of materials, but the modification mechanism is still unclear. In this work, the optical performance of ZnGa2O4:0.02Cr3+ (ZGO:0.02Cr3+) is effectively regulated by chemical unit cosubstitution (Ge4+–Li+/Na+ for Ga3+–Zn2+) and excess cation substitution synergetic strategies, and the thermal stability is retained at 97.7% at room temperature and 150 °C. Ge4+–Li+ and Ge4+–Na+ replace the lattice position of Ga3+–Zn2+ to enhance the photoluminescence (PL) intensity and quantum efficiency (QE) of ZGO:0.02Cr3+. The optimal doping contents of Ge4+–Li+ and Ge4+–Na+ are all 0.3 mol (PL intensity is 130.3% and 153.4% and QE = 77.4% and 85.1%). With further addition of Li+ ions, the emission intensity and QE continued to increase to 176.4% and 83.8%, respectively. The synergistic effect of the mechanism on optical properties is explained via Rietveld refinement, optical band gap energy and thermoluminescence. Finally, LED devices were fabricated by using the ZGO:0.02Cr3+,0.03Ge4+,0.11Li+ phosphor to investigate the effect on plant growth. The growth period was reduced and the fruit quality was improved in dwarf potted tomato, which shows the application prospect in plant growth of the ZGO:0.02Cr3+ phosphor.

Аннотация: The detection of amide solvents is essential to human health due to their carcinogenicity. A simple, solvatochromic luminescent material is presented for quick and accurate detection of amides. The luminescence color variation from blue to yellow is ascribed to the amide-induced phase transformation from Cs2ZnBr4:Cu to CsBr:Cu+/Cu2+.

Аннотация: Non-rare earth doped oxides with red emission are one of the current research hotspots for achieving the warm white light range in the phosphor converted white light emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs) field. In the current work, a novel Mn4+-activated La2CaHfO6 red phosphor is reported for the first time and its crystal structure is analyzed by Rietveld refinement. The photoluminescent properties of La2CaHfO6:Mn4+ are investigated in detail with the help of diffuse refletance spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and temperature-dependent PL spectroscopy. Based on the diffuse refletance spectra, the calculated optical band gap for La2CaHfO6 is 4.9 eV, indicating that La2CaHfO6 could be a suitable host for activators' doping. Under 380 nm near-ultraviolet (n-UV) light excitation, the as-prepared La2CaHfO6:Mn4+ displays intense red emission centered at 693 nm. Through an accurate calculation of Dq/B (2.47) and nephelauxetic effect β1 (0.949), the origination of strong crystal field (CF) and deep-red emission is demonstrated. By combining the representative La2CaHfO6:0.002Mn4+, blue BAM:Eu2+, and green (Ba,Sr)2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphors with a 380 nm UV chip to fabricate the pc-WLEDs device, a white light is obtained with low correlated color temperature (CCT = 5165 K) and high color rendering index (Ra = 87.8), demonstrating that the as-prepared La2CaHfO6:Mn4+ phosphors can be used as red-emitting candidate in pc-WLEDs lighting.

Аннотация: A novel single-phase white light emitting phosphor Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2:Dy3+ was prepared through traditional high-temperature solid state technology. The crystal structures of Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2 with or without Dy3+ ions were refined by the Rietveld method. The diffuse reflection spectra, excitation spectra, emission spectra, and decay times were characterized to investigate the photoluminescence properties for application in white light-emitting diodes. The results showed that the Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2:Dy3+ phosphor could efficiently assimilate n-UV light and emit blue (∼485 nm) and yellow light (∼580 nm), originating from the f-f transitions of Dy3+. The critical Dy3+ quenching concentration (QC) was determined to be about 15 mol%, and the corresponding QC mechanism was verified to be the dipole-dipole interaction. Additionally, the emission colors of all samples were located close to the ideal white light region, and the optimal chromaticity coordinates and correlated color temperature (CCT) were determined to be (x = 0.338, y = 0.336) and 5262 K. All the above results indicate that the as-prepared Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2:Dy3+ phosphor could serve as a promising candidate for white-light n-UV-LEDs. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016.

Phosphor -- Luminescence -- Bi3+ -- NIR emission
Аннотация: Herein, the strategy of replacing Ge4+ with smaller Si4+ was adopted to realize the site-selective occupation of Bi3+ activator in the small ring and obtain a near-infrared light-emitting in Zn2(Ge,Si)O4. The designed phosphor exhibits a broad NIR emission with FWHM ≈104 nm in the 650−860 nm region, with a center emission wavelength of about 750 nm. Interestingly, the more sensitive four-member ring sites gradually replaced the six-member ring sites and realized a large-scope photoluminescence regulation from blue to NIR by just after the crystal field engineering. The possible reasons for this phenomenon can be interpreted by centroid shift (εc) and crystal field splitting (εcfs). This work not only provides new insights for the development of Bi3+-activated NIR-emitting phosphors, but also provides thoughts for revealing the potential NIR luminous mechanism of Bi3+.

Mn2+ -- β-NaYF4 nanoparticles -- Cation exchange -- Rietveld refinement
Аннотация: Transition metal ion doping in upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) provides an effective way to enhance the luminescence for their wide array of applications. However, the doping sites of transition metal ions have not been comprehensively explored, and commonly assumed that transition metal ions replace the trivalent lanthanides within the lattice. Here we report that cation exchange of transition metal (Mn2+) in β-NaYF4:Yb3+/Er3+ UCNPs occurs through alkaline metal (Na+) replacement, via 2Na+ ↔ Mn2+ + Vacancy reaction. This process distorts the LnF9 polyhedrons and tailors the surrounding environment around the trivalent lanthanides, thereby improving the upconversion intensity from active lanthanides. Further confirmed by core-shell design and spectroscopic study, we prove that the transition–alkaline metal exchange enables both the emission enhancement and transition probability variation of activators.

Аннотация: A novel La2Mg1.14Zr0.86O6:Bi3+ double perovskite phosphor with excitation-induced blue/green photoluminescence tuning is reported. By designing Bi3+ → Eu3+ energy transfer, single-composition white light with wide-scale adjustable corrected color temperatures (CCTs) is successfully achieved. This work initiates a new insight to explore phosphors with excitation-induced photoluminescence tuning and wide CCT control for future intelligent LED lighting.

Аннотация: Here we constructed a series of novel non-centrosymmetric structure phosphors [Rb2Zn3(P2O7)2:Mn2+] by a high-temperature solid-state reaction. The multiband emission can be designed by Mn2+ preferentially occupying three types of crystallographic sites in Rb2Zn3(P2O7)2:Mn2+. The emission color could be continuously tuned from yellow-green to orange-red via multiple synergies among crystallographic site engineering, energy transfer, and Mn-Mn dimmers alone through the dopant concentration. These color-tunable phosphors have good thermal stability (I150 °C/I25 °C = 91%). The as-prepared pc-WLED has a low corresponding color temperature (CCT = 4820 K) and a high color rendering index (Ra = 90.4) with CIE color coordinates of (0.351, 0.358). These results show that emission-tunable Rb2Zn3(P2O7)2:xMn2+ phosphors are potential candidates for application in n-UV-based pc-WLED devices. This study offers a new insight for wide-range tuning of PL properties by using crystallographic site engineering through changing the doping level in Mn-activated phosphors.

   HALIDE PEROVSKITES

   LUMINESCENCE

Аннотация: The understanding of broad-band emission mechanisms on low-dimensional metal halides is an urgent need for the design principle of these materials and their photoluminescence tuning. Herein, a new zero-dimensional (0D) organic–inorganic hybrid material (C9NH20)6Pb3Br12 has been discovered, in which face-sharing PbBr6 trimer clusters crystallize with organic cations (C9NH20+), forming periodic structure with 0D blocks. Broad-band green emission peaking at about 522 nm was observed for this material, with a full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of 134 nm. The emission was attributed to excitons trapped at controlled intrinsic vacancies, and this is the new example in 0D metal halides, also confirmed by spectroscopy analysis and first-principles calculations. Discovery of the single-crystalline hybrid material and observation of defect-induced luminescence extend the scope of bulk 0D materials and understanding of photophysical properties for optoelectronic applications.

Herein, we report a series of new zero-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides: (TMEDA)3Bi2Cl12·H2O, (TMEDA)3Bi2Br12·H2O, (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O, and (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O [TMEDA = N,N,N′·trimethylethylenediamine]. (TMEDA)3M2X12·H2O (M = Bi or Sb, X = Cl or Br) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, and (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma. (TMEDA)3M2X12 possesses a zero-dimensional structure with the metal halide ions of [MBr6]3− isolated by the organic TMEDA2+ cations. Interestingly, the (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O structure consists of a combination of corner-connected octahedra [Sb4Cl18]6− and edge-shared [Sb2Cl10]4−, which is quite rare. The light emission of all these compounds was measured, and (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O exhibits the most intense luminescence. Upon 400 nm ultraviolet light excitation, (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O exhibited strong broadband yellow emission centered at 625 nm with a full-width at half-maximum of ∼150 nm originating from self-trapped excitons. This work suggests the possibility of new types of hybrid halides by introducing different metal centers and probing the structural evolution and photoluminescent properties, serving as a reference for the relationship between structure and luminescent performance and demonstrating their potential use as phosphors in light-emitting diodes.
