Аннотация: In this work we investigate a metastable inhomogeneous Co–Cu alloy produced by mechanical alloying. We use both conventional structural method (X-ray diffraction) and magnetic measurements of M(T) and M(H) dependences to obtain additional information about the process of mechanical alloying.

Аннотация: A commercial ANSYS FE Code is employed for the simulation of the electromagnetic sheet-metal forming into a grooved die. An industrial pancake coil is considered as the forming tool. The deformation characteristics of the sheet (workpiece) as well as the electromagnetic parameters of the high-energy process are calculated numerically. An equivalent-circuit method is used to validate the electromagnetic model. The results from both analyses are in good agreement.

Аннотация: The luminous marine bacteria (Photobacterium leiognathi, strain 54) are influenced by a nonthermal-intensity millimeter electromagnetic field, which was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). It is shown that the proton spectrum of luminous bacteria depends on the electromagnetic irradiation effect (ν=42.2 GHz).

Аннотация: The distribution of Co2+ ions over sublattices and structurally nonequivalent positions in the unit cell of the crystal lattice of a single crystal of lithium gallium spinel Li0.5Ga2.5O4 is shown. This distribution determines the properties of both mono- and nanocrystalline substances. The distribution is obtained by a special technology and is manifested in the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra. The distribution of Co2+ ions depends on the structural and magnetic nonequivalence. The structural and magnetic nonequivalence causes a multiminimum behavior of the crystal field potential in the unit cells of single crystals at the locations of Co2+ ions. The Co2+ ions are found in complexes with tetrahedral and octahedral oxygen ions. Three types of EPR spectra of Co2+ ions have been found and investigated. The Cotetr2+ spectrum is attributed to the Co2+ ion, which replaces the Ga3+ ion located in a tetrahedral oxygen environment. The spectrum of the Cooct2+ ion located in the crystal field with axial symmetry belongs to the Co2+ ion replacing the Li+ ion located in an octahedral oxygen environment. The spectrum of the Cooct2+ ion located in a low symmetry crystal field belongs to the Co2+ ion replacing the Ga3+ ion located in an octahedral oxygen environment. The nearest cationic environment of the ion creates rhombic distortions due to the different valence numbers of Li+ and Ga3+. The results of studying the angular dependences of the spectra show the presence of four and twelve magnetically nonequivalent positions in the unit cells.

Аннотация: The features of the magnetic state of an array of parallel oriented permalloy ribbons are discussed. The arrays are made by explosive lithography. The ribbons have a thickness of 180 nm, a width of 2.8 µm, and a length of about 4 mm. The distance between ribbons in different samples varies in the range from 300 nm to 4 μm. It is found that the ribbons in the regions far from the end faces are in a single-domain state with small-angle ripples, the magnetization distribution of which correlates with inhomogeneities of the ribbon side surfaces. Moreover, there is a distinct relationship in the spatial distribution of the ripples between adjacent ribbons with a relatively small distance between them. This makes it possible to evaluate the role of the magnetostatic coupling of magnetic subsystems of array elements and to estimate the characteristic value of the random stray field that pins the magnetization.

Аннотация: The paper presents the results of tensile and impact bending tests of 17%Cr-19%Mn-0.53%N high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel in temperatures ranging from −196 to 20 °C. The steel microstructure and fracture surfaces were investigated using transmission and scanning electron microscopes, as well as X-ray diffraction analysis. The steel experiences a ductile-to-brittle transition (DBT); however, it possessed high tensile and impact strength characteristics, as well as the ductile fracture behavior at temperatures down to −114 °C. The correspondence between γ–ε microstructure and fracture surface morphologies was revealed after the tensile test at the temperature of −196 °C. In this case, the transgranular brittle and layered fracture surface was induced by ε-martensite formation. Under the impact bending test at −196 °C, the brittle intergranular fracture occurred at the elastic deflection stage without significant plastic strains, which preceded a failure due to the high internal stresses localized at the boundaries of the austenite grains. The stresses were induced by: (i) segregation of nitrogen atoms at the grain boundaries and in the near-boundary regions, (ii) quenching stresses, and (iii) reducing fcc lattice volume with the test temperature decrease and incorporation of nitrogen atoms into fcc austenite lattice. Anisotropy of residual stresses was revealed. This was manifested in the localization of elastic deformations of the fcc lattice and, consequently, the stress localization in <100>-oriented grains; this is suggested to be the reason of brittle cleavage fracture.

Аннотация: To determine the mutual influence of the solvent and soluble in multicomponent fluxes based on Bi2O3–MoO3–B2O3–Na2O, the crystallization of the triple oxides of the transition metals (Mn,Fe,Ga)2O3 is investigated, namely the phases based on orthorhombic FeGaO3 and bixbyite FeMnO3. Simultaneously, a set of fluxes is studied based on the variation in the component ratio with regard to the solvent and soluble. The crucial role of various components of the flux system is considered at the intersection of the phase boundaries. Fluxes for the stable growth of (Mn,Fe,Ga)2O3 single crystals of the studied phases (based on orthorhombic FeGaO3 and bixbyite FeMnO3) are determined. A set of single crystal samples (9 samples) with different Fe/Mn/Ga ratios is obtained. The actual composition of the samples is studied using the EDX technique. The partition coefficients of Fe2O3, Mn2O3 and Ga2O3 in the studied fluxes are analyzed. The structure of the obtained samples is characterized using X-ray diffraction methods, including the phase composition, space group and lattice parameters. The room temperature Raman spectra of the obtained samples are presented. The distribution of iron cations over the crystal positions in the obtained phases is studied using Mossbauer spectroscopy.

Аннотация: Nickel and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles have been synthesized using the chemical precipitation method; the nanoparticle sizes were found to be 63 ± 22 and 26 ± 4 nm, respectively. The static hysteresis loops and Mossbauer spectra have been measured. It is shown that cobalt ferrite powders are magnetically harder than nickel ferrite powders. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) curves have been studied. It is found that the FMR absorption for cobalt ferrite is observed at room temperature and above. The time dependences of the nanoparticle warm-up under FMR conditions have been measured. The maximum temperature changes for nickel ferrite and cobalt ferrite particles are 8 and 11 K, respectively. Using the example of cobalt ferrite powder, the possibility of effectively heating of particles in the FMR mode in their own field without using a DC magnetic field source is shown. The observed effect can be used in magnetic hyperthermia.

Аннотация: Copper electrodeposited composite coatings containing two types of aluminum-oxide powders with different dispersities (alumina Al2O3-1 and electroexplosive aluminum-oxide nanopowder Al2O3-2) are obtained during the work. The studies show that introducing the powders leads to a change in the microstructure of the composites and a change in the grain growth principles during the formation of the coatings. Refinement and ordering of the grain structure of the coatings occurs and twinning defects and texture are formed. The change in the formation of the microstructure of the composites leads to a change in some operational characteristics: an increase in the microhardness (by 10% in the composites with the addition of alumina and by more than 30% in the coatings with electroexplosive aluminum oxide) and ultimate tensile strength (by 20% in the composites with Al2O3-1 and almost 1.5-fold in the samples with Al2O3-2).

Аннотация: In this paper, we solve the inverse problem of magneto-optical ellipsometry for thin ferromagnetic films with optical uniaxial anisotropy. We work within the framework of the approach we developed earlier analyzing magnetoellipsometric data without using fourth-order M-matrices. We work with ellipsometric relations, in which we take into account the magneto-optical contribution as perturbations, and ellipsometric measurements are carried out on a setup with a simple dipole scheme based on the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect. We add the magneto-optical response to the expressions known in the literature for the reflection coefficients of anisotropic thin films, which are related to the parameters measured by magneto-optical ellipsometry. As a result, by analyzing the obtained expressions for the reflection coefficients, we obtain information on the total permittivity tensor of a thin film.

Аннотация: Powders of maghemite γ-Fe2O3 with an average diameter of 8 nm, γ-Fe2O3/SiO2 composites with an agglomerate diameter of about 50 nm and a size of interspersed γ-Fe2O3 particles of 6 nm, and γ‑Fe2O3/SiO2/aptamer(FAS9) composites were synthesized by chemical deposition. Mössbauer spectra were measured, the static and dynamic magnetic properties of the powders were studied, and the coercive force was determined, which decreases from 14 Oe for γ-Fe2O3 powders to 3 Oe for the γ-Fe2O3/SiO2 composite. It is shown that the particle blocking temperature is close to room temperature. The increment of temperature of the powders was measured in the ferromagnetic resonance mode; the temperature of the Fe2O3/SiO2 composite (ΔT ≈ 16°C) turned out to be higher than that of the pure γ-Fe2O3 powder (ΔT ≈ 10°C). It has been experimentally shown that temperature increment ΔT is proportional to the square of the microwave field amplitude. It has been shown that the composition γ-Fe2O3/SiO2/aptamer FAS9 is able to effectively bind to tumor cells, and FMR hyperthermia leads to a decrease in the viability of tumor cells.

Аннотация: The results of experimental and theoretical studies of the coercivity and the dipole coupling field of the hysteresis loop on the thickness of the nonmagnetic interlayer in magnetic films, which are obtained via chemical deposition, are presented. Using model calculations based on the Landau–Ginzburg equations, the exchange interactions between magnetic layers with the participation of atoms from the nonmagnetic interlayer are studied. The resulting expression for the dipole coupling field describes well the exponential changes in the dipole coupling field as a function of the interlayer thickness in structures with both soft magnetic layers and layers with significantly different values of the coercivity.

Аннотация: Auger electron spectroscopy was used to determine the phase composition of Cr2GeC MAX phase thin films. A distinctive feature of the formation of carbon-containing MAX phases is the shape of carbon Auger peaks, which is characteristic of metal carbides spectra. Features of the Auger spectra in the presence of secondary phases of chromium germanides are found. Their presence can manifest itself in an increase in the energy of the germanium peaks, which is caused by a chemical shift during the formation of the Cr–Ge bond. Moreover, we have detected the accumulation of electronic charge, which can be explained by the features of the surface morphology.

Аннотация: The 90° and 180° super-exchange interaction in the Mott–Hubbard dielectrics NiO and CoO under normal conditions and at high hydrostatic pressure, which leads to spin crossover on magnetic ions, is estimated. Аннотация: The quasi-equilibrium directional crystallization of the melt composition (at. %): Cu 24.998, Fe 25.001, S 49.983, with Ag 0.002, Pd 0.003, Ru 0.004, Rh 0.006, and Au, Pt, Ir (each as 0.001) was carried out. The crystallized cylindrical ingot consisted of two primary zones and three secondary zones with different chemical and phase compositions. The compositions of the primary zones corresponded to high-temperature intermediate solid solution (zone I) and liquid enriched in sulfur (zone II). The compositions of the secondary zones corresponded to low-temperature intermediate solid solution and chalcopyrite (zone Ia), the same intermediate solid solution with chalcopyrite and bornite (zone Ib), and again with bornite, chalcocite, and idaite (zone II). We plotted the distribution curves of Fe, Cu, and S along the ingot, calculated the distribution coefficients of the components during directional crystallization, and clearly showed that, from the initial stoichiometric composition CuFeS2, the intermediate solid solution enriched in Fe and depleted in S is crystallized. Based on the data of directional crystallization and thermal analysis, a cross section was constructed in the intermediate solid solution-sulfide melt region of the Cu-Fe-S system. With solubility in the solid Cu-Fe sulfides lying below detection limit of scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDS), noble elements occurred as individual phases of a size more often <10 µm. They were identified as Ag, RuS2, PdS, Au* (an Au based alloy), (Rh, Ir, Ru)3S8, (Rh, Ir)3S8, Rh3S8, and (Cu, Fe)~2(Pt, Rh)1S~5 phases by electron microprobe. Based on ab initio calculations of crystal structure, electronic band structure, and lattice dynamics of idealized laurite RuS2 phase and the idealized Ir3S8, Rh3S8, and Ru3S8 phases, the interpretation of Raman spectrum of the cation-mixed (Ru, Rh, Ir)S2 sulfide was presented for the first time.

Аннотация: The anodic behaviour of pre-oxidised and non-oxidised Cu−Al-based anodes (Cu−10Al and Cu−9.8Al−2Mn) in KF−AlF3−Al2O3 melts was studied through galvanostatic and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The alloy compositions were oxidised for a short-term (8 h) at 700 °C, followed by galvanostatic polarization for 1 h at 800 °C with an applied current density of 0.4 A/cm2. The potentiodynamic curves were recorded with a sweep rate of 0.01 V/s. XRD analysis was conducted on frozen melt samples collected on the surface of the anode, and SEM observation was performed on the anode after the experiment to study the phases of the scales formed on the alloys. All the anode materials had a steady potential between 2.30 and 2.50 V(vs Al/AlF3). The corrosion rates of the anodes were calculated from the data acquired through potentiodynamic polarization. It was seen that pre-oxidised anodes possess a low corrosion rate compared to those without pre-oxidation treatment.

Аннотация: Carbon-containing transition metal (Fe, Co, Ni) coatings are synthesized via chemical deposition with arabinogalactan. The crystal structure and chemical composition of the coatings are determined. Data from magnetometry and X-ray diffraction show that carbon is not included in the crystal lattice of a metal. Instead, it exists in the form of graphite inclusions. Degradation of arabinogalactan in an alkaline medium on the surface of a galvanic pair is investigated.

Аннотация: Magnetic properties and peculiarities of the domain structure of multilayer [Ti/FeNi]х/Cu/[FeNi/Ti]x elements, the geometry of which ensures the high magnetoimpedance effect, are studied by varying the number of layers in the range x = 0–5. Peculiarities of the magnetization processes of the multilayer structures, which are magnetized at both substrate and free surfaces, are analyzed. It has been found that elements in which the magnetization reversal from the free side occurs by rotation of the magnetization vector have a higher magnetoimpedance effect compared to elements in which the magnetization reversal occurs with the formation of 180° domain walls both in the layer from the side of the substrate and the free layer as well.

Аннотация: MAX phases are a family of ternary layered compounds with formal stoichiometry M2AX and have a layered hexagonal structure. Calculations with the B3LYP density functional show that, by varying the ratio between the chromium and iron in the MAX phase (Cr4 – xFex)0.5SiC, it is possible to change the lattice parameters and the magnetic moment on metal atoms. In this phase, a partial substitution of one metal for the other can be considered a technique of intended variation of their magnetic properties.

Аннотация: This paper presents the results of measuring the main parameters of the ferromagnetic and spin-wave resonance spectra (resonant field, linewidth, and intensity) of single-layer permalloy films at various angles in the out-of-plane orientation. The effect of the type of surface conditions on the angular dependence of the intensity ratio of adjacent modes is studied. A correspondence is established between the angle of the applied constant magnetic field with respect to the normal to the film and the change in the oscillation type from uniform to nonuniform. The revealed features of the angular dependences of the resonant field and the intensity of the spectral peak can be successfully used in the identification of microwave spectra. The fundamental magnetic parameters (effective magnetization, exchange interaction constant, surface anisotropy constant, and perpendicular anisotropy field) were determined.
