Аннотация:
A system of mutual relationships (a hierarchy) is constructed between various perovskite-like crystal structures based on available structural data. All the perovskite-like structures are characterized by a common indicator of their relationship-the presence of layers, stacks, or frameworks made up of BX6 octahedra linked at their vertices (where B is a cation, X is an anion) or fragments of octahedra in the form of BX5 pyramids or BX4 squares in anion-deficient compounds. In layered structures, these stacks are joined to each other by various intermediate blocks. It is well known that one homological series of compounds is constructed by increasing the number of layers in a stack while preserving the same kind of connecting block. Crystals of various series that contain identical stacks (but different blocks of one or two types) can also be related to one another via this feature. The hierarchical system includes compounds with small distortions in their structures for various reasons. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация:
Single crystals of CsNaMoO4В·2H2O were synthesized, and the crystal structure of this compound was determined from X-ray diffraction data (SYNTEX P21 automatic diffractometer, MoK radiation, 2252 reflections, R = 0.037). Crystals are orthorhombic, space group P212121 with unit cell dimensions a = 6.379(1), b = 8.625(1), c = 13.671(2) A, Z = 4. The structure of the binary molybdate consists of continuous columns of face-sharing Na octahedra with attached MoO4 tetrahedra. The neighboring columns are linked by the Cs cations and the hydrogen bonds of the water molecules entering into the coordination polyhedra of the Na and Cs atoms.

Self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
(SHS) in Al/Ni, Al/Fe, and Al/Co bilayer thin films is investigated. It is established that SHS is achieved in thin films at initiation temperatures 300-350 degrees lower than in powders. The mechanism of SHS in thin films is similar to the process of explosive crystallization. It is shown that at the initial stage solid-phase reactions arising on the contact surface of condensate films can be self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis

Fractal clusters in amorphous thin films are examples of growth models. The main models are the Witten-Sander model and its modifications. It is believed that fractal patterns are formed in the course of the crystallization of an amorphous phase. It is shown that self-propagating high-temperature

can be initiated in an Al/Ge film system and fractal patterns are formed in the reaction products. It is conjectured that the transition of an amorphous phase to a crystalline phase does not play a substantial role in the appearance of such patterns, while the formation of fractal clusters is determined by self-propagating high-temperature

The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of Cu3B2O6 single crystals grown by spontaneous crystallization from a melt consisting of a mixture of CuO and B2O3 and the behavior of their magnetization are investigated in magnetic fields up to 55 kOe. A broad susceptibility maximum is observed near 39 K, and a sharp drop in susceptibility is observed at T10 K. The paramagnetic Neel temperatures for all orientations of the magnetic field in the crystal investigated are negative, attesting to the predominantly antiferromagnetic character of the exchange interactions. The effective magnetic moment of the Cu2+ ion is anisotropic and lies in the range from 1.054 mu(B) to 1.545 mu(B). The magnetization depends linearly on magnetic field at T10 K, whereas at temperatures below 10 K a discontinuity is observed at fields of the order of 40 kOe. At room temperature, electron magnetic resonance characterized by an almost isotropic g factor (g=2.165) is detected at 36.22 GHz. The exchange interactions in Cu3B2O6 are analyzed on the basis of the Goodenough-Kanamori rules. The possibility of the establishment of a singlet magnetic state in the crystal is analyzed. A variety of self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
in thin films has been found and investigated. This modification, called multiple self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
, occurs in the solid phase and is a reversible phase transition. Multiple self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
is similar in many respects to a metal-insulator phase transition. It is shown that for eutectic systems it is equivalent to a repeated transition through the eutectic temperature of bulk samples. It is inferred that multiple self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis

The self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
in the two-layer and multilayer Pt / Co(001) thin films has been investigated. It is shown that the initiation of the
synthesis
occurs at temperatures of 770-820 K. After the
synthesis
in the two-layer film samples, the PtCo(001) disordered phase exhibits an epitaxial growth at the interface between cobalt and platinum layers. In the multilayer Pt/Co(001) thin films, the self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
also brings about the formation of the PtCo(001) disordered phase on the MgO(001) surface. Further annealing at a temperature of 870 K for 4 h results in the transition of the PtCo(001) disordered phase to the ordered phase. Rapid thermal annealing of the Pt/Co(001) multilayer films at a temperature of 1000 K leads to the formation of the CoPt3 phase. The magnetic characteristics change in accord with the structural transformations in Pt/Co film samples. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

in double-layer Cu/Au thin-film systems are presented. It is shown that the
synthesis
initiation temperature for a Cu/Au film is determined by the order-disorder phase-transition temperature in the Cu-Au system. The order-disorder transition temperature for thin films is found to be lower than for the bulky samples. A comparative analysis was carried out of the initiation temperatures of solid-phase reactions in bilayer solid films and the Kurnakov temperatures of the phases forming in the reaction products. It has been shown that in superstructures where ordering is usually observed, the Kurnakov temperature coincides with the initiation temperature of the solid-phase reactions if no other solid-phase structural transformation precedes the order-disorder phase transition in the state diagram. A rule was proposed by which pairs of films capable of entering into solid-phase reactions and their initiation temperatures can be determined. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Qualitative analysis of the products of plasmochemical
synthesis
of fullerenes with metallic nickel and cobalt has been carried out using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and electron microscopy. These studies show that the
synthesis
products are mainly fullerenes, metallic nanoparticles coated with an insulating layer, and isolated atomic clusters. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

A new scheme of fullerene formation is proposed on the basis of the similarity between the experimentally detected carbon structures. According to experimental data, the microclusters of C(2) and C(10) are synthesized first and then either an intermediate nucleus cluster or an obtainable lower fullerene is assembled from them. A high-symmetry fullerene can be assembled with a high probability from a nucleus cluster with a "good" symmetry. The atomic and electronic structures of molecules such as C(36), C(60), C(70), and C(76) are analyzed. For C(36), the NMR spectra are calculated and compared with the experimental data. Single crystals of the new compound Cu5Bi2B4O14 are grown and its structural, magnetic, and resonant properties are investigated for the first time. It is found that the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal synthesized has a triclinic symmetry with space group P (1) over bar and the unit cell parameters a = 10.132 Angstrom, b = 9.385 Angstrom, c = 3.458 Angstrom, alpha = 105.443degrees, beta = 97.405degrees, gamma = 107.784degrees, and Z = 1. At a temperature of 24.5 K, the crystal undergoes a magnetic phase transition to the magnetically ordered state. The assumption is made that the ferrimagnetic structure of the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal consists of two ferromagnetic sublattices coupled through the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction. The unit cell of the crystal contains five copper ions, of which one ion belongs to the first sublattice and the other four ions form the second sublattice. Analysis of the resonant and magnetic static properties demonstrates that the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal exhibits an easy-axis magnetic anisotropy. The direction of the easy axis coincides with the c axis of the crystal, whereas the a and b axes are the hard magnetic axes with saturation fields approximately equal to 25 and 10 kOe, respectively. Solid-phase reactions taking place in Al/beta-Co/MgO(001) and Al/alpha-Co/MgO(001) film systems under conditions of self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis
(SHS) are investigated. In both systems, SHS products exhibit the single CoAl superstructure, which epitaxially grows on the MgO(001) surface in the Al/beta-Co/MgO(001) structures and has a fine-dispersed disordered structure in the Al/alpha-Co/MgO(001) films. It appears that the difference in the reagent structure has an effect on the energy of activation but does not change the SHS initiation temperature and the temperature at which the initial phase involved in the reaction products nucleates. It is shown that the SHS initiation temperature in the Al/beta-Co/MgO(001) and Al/alpha-Co/MgO(001) systems coincides with the temperature of CoAl superstructure ordering.
