Аннотация: A theoretical study has been performed to check the possibility of using ultrabroadband nanosecond electromagnetic pulses as a geosteering tool for horizontal drilling to estimate the distance to the oil-water contact (OWC) in a floating oil accumulation. The voltage of a microwave-bandwidth pulse at the dipole receiver of a downhole radar was modeled for the case of a horizontal borehole near OWC in a formation saturated with oil and water. Numerical solutions to the boundary problem formulated on the basis of the Maxwell equations were obtained with the Microwave Studio software (www.cst.com). The frequency-dependent dielectric constants of the layered saturated formation and the drilling fluid were assumed according to experimentally tested models. The modeling has demonstrated that nanosecond electromagnetic pulses arriving from a layered oil-water contact can in principle be acquired and the distance from the wellbore to the OWC median can be inferred from the respective time delays recorded by a downhole radar. Additionally, the possible dynamic range and accuracy of sensing have been estimated. В© 2013.

Аннотация: The morphology and magnetic properties as well as adsorption capacity and catalytic activity of Fe3O4-Ag nanoparticles synthesized by the solvothermal method were studied in dependence on the duration of the thermolysis process (3, 6, and 8 h). X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy measurements showed that the morphology of nanoparticles changed strongly as the duration of thermolysis increased. At 6 and 8 h duration, Fe3O4 nanocrystals grow and assemble into porous spherical globules with an Ag core (samples 2 and 3). These samples demonstrate high magnetization value and very low coercivity. The adsorption capacity of nanoparticles was studied with respect to two organic dyes: cationic methylene blue (MB) and anionic Congo red (CR). The particles showed preferential adsorption of the cationic dye. High catalytic activity towards four dyes: MB, methyl orange (MO), CR, and Rhodamine C (RhC) at the presence of NaBH4 is the remarkable property of these samples. The rate constant of the catalytic reaction was 1.4 min−1. Simultaneous exposure of CR and MO dyes to nanoparticles and NaBH4 caused their irreversible 100 % degradation while in the case of MB and RhC, a transition to their leuco form occurred.

Аннотация: Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized with the co-precipitation method and functionalized with NH2 amino-groups. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray, FT-IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The magnetic core of all the nanoparticles was shown to be nanocrystalline with the crystal parameters corresponding only to the Fe3O4 phase covered with a homogeneous amorphous silica (SiO2) shell of about 6 nm in thickness. The FT-IR spectra confirmed the appearance of chemical bonds at amino functionalization. The magnetic measurements revealed unusually high saturation magnetization of the initial Fe3O4 nanoparticles, which was presumably associated with the deviations in the Fe ion distribution between the tetrahedral and octahedral positions in the nanocrystals as compared to the bulk stoichiometric magnetite. The fluorescent spectrum of eosin Y-doped NPs dispersed in water solution was obtained and a red shift and line broadening (in comparison with the dye molecules being free in water) were revealed and explained. Most attention was paid to the adsorption properties of the nanoparticles with respect to three dyes: methylene blue, Congo red, and eosin Y. The kinetic data showed that the adsorption processes were associated with the pseudo-second order mechanism for all three dyes. The equilibrium data were more compatible with the Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity was reached for Congo red.

Аннотация: Lake Shira as a meromictic lake is object of interest for paleolimnological studies. In May 2011 core samples were collected from the bottom of Lake Shira and the species composition of diatom algae, which serve as bioindicators of the state of the lake, were studied. In addition, in 2012, seasonal water samples and material from sediment traps were collected and the species composition of diatoms in them was analyzed. The results of the analysis showed that the lake, like in previous years of research, was dominated by Cyclotella choctawhatcheeana Prasad. Diatoms were found twice in the studied core above the white carbonate layers and were absent in other layers. The species living in the lake at present were observed down to the first white carbonate layer, including the predominant Cyclotella choctawhatcheeana. This fact presumably proves the consistency of the species composition of diatoms and the overall stable condition of the lake since 1946 (Rogozin et al., 2005). Down to the second white carbonate layer, the dominant species were Aulcosira valida (Grunow) Krammer and Aulcosira italica (Grunow) Simonsen. Nitzchia sigmodea (Nitzsch) W. Smith and Fragilaria construens var. venter (Ehrenberg) Grunow were also observed at these depths, dating approximately to 1655-1690. These are freshwater species that belong to the diatoms of arctic, alpine, and temperate latitudes, which develop in shallow waters under moderate temperature conditions. This fact suggests that Lake Shira was less salty in the middle and end of the 17th century than today.

Аннотация: In the present paper a description of the flow field in the base region of booster stages with clustered rocket engines is given. A flow model is derived from the bulk of available laboratory test an free flight measurements. Jet impingent theory is used for the determination of the convective heat transfer caused by the reverse flow. A comparison of the results of the present method with experimental data is followed by a discussion of its applicability and possible extension.

Аннотация: The behavior of CaBSiO4(OH) datolite compressed in a water medium at simultaneous high temperatures and pressures corresponding to the cold zones of tectonic plate subduction (up to P ~5.3 GPa and T ~250°C) is studied in situ via Raman spectroscopy. Two polymorphic transitions are found: (i) upon an increase of up to 2 GPa in pressure at a constant temperature of 22°C and (ii) upon heating to ~90°C at a constant pressure of ~5–5.3 GPa. Major trends of the variations in the Raman spectra are identified for all phases of the indicated P–T parameters. No overhydration and amorphization of datolite is observed. © 2015, Allerton Press, Inc.

Аннотация: Experimental measurements of the dielectric permittivity and equivalent conductivity of sandy-clayey samples (a mixture of river sand with bentonite or kaolin) saturated with salt-solution-diesel-fuel emulsions were performed in the frequency range from 10 kHz to 1 GHz at temperatures of 25-65 °C. It is shown that when the content of the salt solution in the saturating fluid does not exceed 10%, the dielectric permittivity in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz depends little on the mineral composition of the sample and on the concentration of the saturating solution. When the portion of water is 33.3% or higher, increasing the concentration of the salt solution leads to an increase in the equivalent conductivity and the real part of the complex dielectric permittivity. Using the refractive model of the complex dielectric permittivity, we have estimated the dielectric properties of bound water, which depend on temperature and the type of clay (bentonite or kaolin) in the sand-clay mixture but are independent of the water saturation and the amount of clay in the sample.

Аннотация: An electrode of a light-induced cell for water splitting based on a broadband Tamm plasmon polariton localized at the interface between a thin TiN layer and a chirped photonic crystal has been developed. To facilitate the injection of hot electrons from the metal layer by decreasing the Schottky barrier, a thin n-Si film is embedded between the metal layer and multilayer mirror. The chipping of a multilayer mirror provides a large band gap and, as a result, leads to an increase in the integral absorption from 52 to 60 percent in the wavelength range from 700 to 1400 nm. It was shown that the photoresponsivity of the device is 32.1 mA/W, and solar to hydrogen efficiency is 3.95%.

Аннотация: Magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles of 1–10 nm (with the maximum at 2 nm) were obtained via pulsed laser ablation of iron target in water in form of a stable dispersion without addition of surfactants and stabilizers. The structure of the material obtained was investigated using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller methods. To investigate the composition of the particles in the sample, such methods as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction, were applied. Magnetite phase was found to be sufficiently pure, it was not contaminated by other iron oxide phases and contained not more than 0.5% of metallic iron in form of large particles. The study of the magnetic properties of the magnetite nanoparticles obtained has shown that they exhibit ferrimagnetic behavior at room temperature with the paramagnetic contribution explained by the presence of fine superparamagnetic particles.

Аннотация: Structural and morphological properties of biogenic ferrihydrite nanoparticles produced by bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca are investigated. The stability of water dispersions of biomineral particles produced by Klebsiella oxytoca was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Their chemical composition was determined by FT-IR spectroscopy. The vibrational spectra of biogenic ferrihydrite nanoparticles revealed typical absorption peaks of exopolysaccharides. Morphological analysis based on Raman spectroscopy indicated the presence of exopolysaccharides on the surface as well as inside the pores of the ferrihydrite nanoparticles. Structural investigations of ultrasonic assisted samples of different concentration of water dispersed particles were performed using small angle X-ray scattering analysis. Model calculations and fitting procedures revealed scattering objects of an elongated shape with 6.73В±0.16 nm radius of gyration. В© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: A facile and eco-friendly method for activating anodic TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) by cyclic voltammetry (CV) is proposed, and photoelectrochemical properties of CV-activated TNTs are compared with those of non-activated TNTs and of TNTs activated by hydrogen-thermal reduction. EPR and luminescence studies show that the pristine samples demonstrate rather large content of paramagnetic and luminescing defects, while hydrogenation and CV-activation lead to the different type of rearrangement of defects. TNTs activated by CV-Na2SO4 demonstrate significantly improved photocurrent density (2.25 mA cm-2) in comparison with that of the hydrogen treated and pristine ones (0.93 mA cm-2 and 0.31 mA cm-2) under NUV-irradiation at 0.2 V (RHE). Enhanced photoactivity of Na2SO4-activated TNTs correlates with higher luminescence quantum yield, lowest paramagnetic defects content and larger decay time of the luminescence. Thus, a decrease in the content of defects is an important factor that reduces the non-radiative recombination of charge carriers. The activation-induced redistribution of surface and bulk defects in nanotubes explains the increased photoelectrochemical activity of TiO2-based anodes. Cyclic voltammetry has been proved to be a reliable method to increase the efficiency of TNTs in PEC water splitting.

Аннотация: Phase transition in FeTiF6·xH2O·yD2O crystals has been studied by Raman spectroscopy. The 611 cm-1 line corresponding to mode A1g of [TiF6]2- system does not exhibit anomalous behavior associated with the phase transition. The temperature studies showed that below the phase transition temperature, the equivalence of D2O molecules in FeTiF6·xH2O·yD2O octahedron is broken. The phase transition mechanism in the compound under study is associated with Fe(xH2O·yD2O) complex.

Аннотация: Anhydrous carbonate shortite, Na2Ca2(CO3)3, compressed in water at high pressure–temperature (up to 5 GPa, 350 °C) was studied by Raman spectroscopy. At 3.2 GPa and 250 °C, shortite begins to dissolve, followed by crystallization of aragonite and aragonite’. The unusual behavior of aqueous carbonate fluid was observed at 4.8 GPa and 300–350 °C. This process is characterized by the active formation of microbubbles within 2–60 s that are inserted one into another. Microbubbles are considered to be a result of the two immiscible fluid stratification. This dynamical immiscibility of the fluid accompanies the appearance of several crystalline carbonates and organic molecular crystals. Na-formate and some polymorphs of Ca-formate were observed.

Аннотация: Coal-water slurry (CWS) is the basis of modern alternative fuel - coal-water fuel (CWF). To produce stable coal-water slurry, i.e. coagulation and separation is an important technological problem. The paper studies CWS the disperse part of which is fine brown Kansk-Achinsk coal, the dispersive part is distilled water. Effect of cavitational conditioning on CWS stability has been studied. The efficiency was for the first time studied by magnetic resonance tomography (MRT). In the experiment spin-lattice relaxation time profiles T1 were recorded along the central vertical axis of the samples. T1 dynamics correlates well with the local density of CWS solid phase. MRT data was sequentially interpreted with rheological characteristics of CWS. Feasibility of applying MRT method to find out time and space evolution of CWS has been estimated. The MRT methods has been shown to be efficient in resolution of technological problems to improve consumer properties of the coal-water fuel.

Аннотация: Using data on the structure of plant leaves, specific features of light propagation in biophotoniccrystal structures have been established by the transfer matrix method. Splitting of the stopband in two bands has been found. The density of photonic states and the electromagnetic field value have been calculated. The occurrence of two photosystems (splitting of the stopband in two bands), the peculiarity of the long-wavelength quantum yield and its enhancement (Emerson effect), and water dissociation in the soft mode due to an increase in the electromagnetic field on the layers are explained.

Аннотация: A study of thermophysical and ecological properties of highly loaded (50% mass.) coal-water slurry based on Kansk-Achinsk brown coal and distilled water (coal-water slurry fuel – CWSF) with exposure of used water to cavitation-treatment, microwave processing of coal powder, T-900 nanocarbon additions is presented. Аннотация: Dielectric spectra of water-containing rocks forming a mineral framework of the oil-saturated bed (clay minerals amount to˂16%) were measured in the frequency range from 500 MHz to 15 GHz and in the temperature range from 20 to 80 °C. A physical model for computing spectra of the dielectric permittivity and effective conductivity of the studied rocks has been elaborated. Its input parameters are water (salt solution) content and temperature. The errors of the computed spectra relative to the measured ones are estimated.

Аннотация: The precipitation of iron and associated heavy metals in industrial waste water and in model solution using ferritization and aerobic bacterial culture was investigated. Magnetic sediments extractable by magnetic separation (specific saturation magnetization of 16–36.8 G cm3/g) were produced by precipitation of iron by ferritization method at рН (8–10) and 60–80°С for 15–30 min. Nanoparticles of ferrihydrite or ferric hydroxide doped with associated metals (Co, Ni) were produced under precipitation of ferric iron in model solution with bacteria at the temperature 26–34°С. The radii of synthesized particles are 1–5 nm and nanoparticles of ferrihydrite are superparamagnetic in both un-doped and doped (Co, Ni, Zn) sets. Dispersed structure of biogenic nanoparticle sols, their magnetic and other properties were studied by atomic force microscopy, X-ray small-angle scattering, X-ray diffraction, electron magnetic resonance, Mössbauer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Аннотация: Evolution of the phase state of paramagnetic additions at various stages of synthesis and subsequent thermal treatment of glasses of the system Al(2)O(3)-K(2)O-B(2)O(3) simultaneously doped with Fe(2)O(3) and MnO is studied by means of a combination of experimental techniques: Faraday rotation (FR), electron magnetic resonance (EMR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. Both FR and EMR show that magnetically ordered clusters occur already at the first stage of the glass preparation. In particular, for the ratio of the Fe and Mn oxides in the charge close to 3:2, fine magnetic nanoparticles are formed with characteristics similar to those of manganese ferrite. By computer simulating the EMR spectra at variable temperatures, a superparamagnetic nature of these nanoparticles is confirmed and their mean diameter is estimated as approximately 3.2 nm. In the thermally treated glasses larger magnetic nanoparticles are formed, giving rise to FR spectra, characteristic of magnetically ordered systems, and the EMR spectra different from those in as-prepared glasses but also showing superparamagnetic narrowing. The Mossbauer spectroscopy corroborates the manganese ferrite structure of the nanoparticles and indicates their coexistence in the ferrimagnetic and superparamagnetic states. The TEM shows the presence of polydisperse nanoparticles on the background of the glass matrix, and electron diffraction of a selected region containing larger particles indicates a crystal structure close to that of MnFe(2)O(4). Energy-dispersive atomic x-ray spectra confirm that the major part of Fe and Mn introduced to the glass composition is gathered in the particles, with the concentration ratio close to 2:1, characteristic of bulk MnFe(2)O(4). Magnetic hysteresis loops of samples subjected to an additional thermal treatment demonstrate a strong increase in the coercive force, remnant magnetization, and high-field magnetic susceptibility with temperature decrease. The consistent results obtained using various techniques demonstrate that the formation of nanoparticles with characteristics close to those of MnFe(2)O(4) confers to these glasses magnetic and magneto-optical properties typical of substances possessing magnetic order.
