Аннотация: Strong fluctuations of local fields may result in very large optical nonlinearities in small-particle composites. Enhancement associated with particle clustering is found for a number of optical processes, including four-wave mixing (FWM), third-harmonic generation (THG), Raman scattering, and nonlinear refraction and absorption in Kerr media. Field fluctuations and optical nonlinear susceptibilities are especially large in fractal clusters. The enhancement of optical processes is expressed in terms of the resonant linear absorption by collective dipolar eigenmodes in a cluster, and quality factors, q, of the modes (q much greater than 1). It is shown that the susceptibility of a composite material consisting of random small-particle clusters is proportional to q(3) for Raman scattering and the Kerr optical nonlinearity, and to q(4) and q(6) for THG and FWM, respectively. For all of these processes, a spectral dependence of the effective susceptibility is found. Broad-scale numerical simulations of the optical response in small-particle composites are performed to complement the theory. The simulations are in reasonable agreement with available experimental data.

Аннотация: The temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) of a "break junction" with metal-type conductivity on the polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 high-temperature superconductor is investigated. The CVC exhibits gap peculiarities and hysteresis, which is observed in the region of negative differential resistance. The experimental results are described well in terms of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for an S-N-S junction (S is a superconductor, N is a normal metal) this theory takes into account multiple Andreev reflection of quasiparticles. It is shown that the shape of the CVC and the existence and the shape of hysteresis are determined by the ratio of "long" and "short" grain boundaries in the polycrystal under investigation. Аннотация: The thermal expansion properties of the ceramic compositions Ba1-yLayTi1-y/4O3 (y = 0.0, 0.026, 0.036, 0.054) and Ba1-yBi2y/3Ti1-xZrxO3 (y = 0.10; x = 0.0, 0.04, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15) were determined in the temperature range 120-700 K. We report the temperature- dependent measurements of the strain, thermal expansion coefficient and the magnitude of root mean square polarization. The results obtained are discussed together with the data on the structure and dielectric properties.

Аннотация: Deformation and the thermal expansion coefficient of ceramic samples of (Ba1 - x La (x) )Ti1 - x/4O3 solid solutions (x = 0, 0.026, 0.036, 0.054) were studied in the temperature range 120-700 K. Based on an analysis of the data obtained, the temperature-composition phase diagram is refined, and the temperature dependence of the polarization is calculated. The results are discussed in combination with the dielectric measurement data.

Аннотация: The compound Bi24(CoBi)O40 has been synthesized using the solid-phase reaction method. The temperature and field dependences of the magnetic moment in the temperature range 4 K T 300 K and the temperature dependences of the EPR line width and g-factor at temperatures 80 K T 300 K have been investigated. The electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power have been measured in the temperature range 100 K T 1000 K. The activation energy has been determined and the crossover of the thermoelectric power from the phonon mechanism to the electron mechanism with variations in the temperature has been observed. The thermal expansion coefficient of the samples has been measured in the temperature range 300 K T 1000 K and the qualitative agreement with the temperature behavior of the electrical resistivity has been achieved. The electrical and structural properties of the compound have been explained in the framework of the model of the electronic-structure transition with inclusion of the exchange and Coulomb interactions between electrons and the electron-phonon interaction.

Аннотация: We analyze how the magnetic disorder affects the properties of the two-band s± and s++ models, which are the subject of discussions regarding iron-based superconductors and other multiband systems like MgB2. We show that there are several cases when the transition temperature Tc is not fully suppressed by magnetic impurities in contrast to the Abrikosov-Gor'kov theory, but a saturation of Tc takes place in the regime of strong disorder. These cases are: (1) the purely interband impurity scattering and (2) the unitary scattering limit. We show that in the former case the s± gap is preserved, while the s++ state transforms into the s± state with increasing magnetic disorder. For case (2), the gap structure remains intact.

Аннотация: The behavior of frequency dependences of the impedance of a capacitive measuring cell with a liquid crystal has been investigated in the frequency range from 10−1 to 105 Hz. A method for determining electrophysical characteristics of the liquid crystal in the bulk and at the liquid crystal-metal electrode interface has been proposed and tested for liquid crystals of the alkyl cyanobiphenyl series, which are doped with ionic surfactants. The method is based on the use of an equivalent electrical circuit, which makes it possible to approximate the impedance spectra with the required accuracy, and also on the determination of the frequency at the singular point in the impedance spectra, at which the reactive component of the electric current flowing through the liquid-crystal cell is negligible compared to the active component.

Аннотация: The electric and magnetic properties of anion-substituted antiferromagnetic MnSe1-xTex (0.1≤x≤0.4) semiconductors in the 77-700K temperature range and magnetic fields under 1T are studied. In the MnSe1-xTex solid solutions, negative magnetoresistance in the vicinity of the Néel temperature for x=0.1 and for composition with x=0.2 in the paramagnetic range below 270K is revealed. A dependence of the magnetic susceptibility versus the prehistory of the samples is found. The model of localized spin-polarized electrons with the localization radius depending on the magnetic field is proposed for x=0.1. In the paramagnetic range, the negative magnetoresistance and the behavior of magnetic moment are a result of orbital glass formation.

Аннотация: A relation of the effective refractive index of a two-dimensional polycrystalline dielectric film in the transparency region to the refractive indices n1 and n2 of crystallites at the positions of axes 1 and 2, respectively, of refraction ellipsoids of the crystallites in the plane of the film has been obtained. This relation and the relation L* = (L1 + L2)/2 between the components of the Lorentz tensors for the film and crystallites have been confirmed by comparison with experimental data for conjugate-polymer films with uniaxial domains.

Аннотация: The correlation between the dc and ac electrical resistance and the structural, magnetic, and thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline MnSe1−X Te Х (0.3 ≤ X ≤ 0.4) manganese chalcogenide films in the temperature range of 80–400 K has been investigated. Inhomogeneous electronic states and transitions between them accompanied by structural lattice deformations have been found at temperatures including the Neel temperature region. The magnetic susceptibility maximum above the Neel temperature in a magnetic field of 8.6 kOe has been observed. Temperature ranges of the coexistence of two types of electrically inhomogeneous states have been established by impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range of 0.1–1000 kHz and the change of the hopping conductivity for diffusion one accompanied by the magnetic susceptibility minimum has been found. The magnetoresistance in magnetic fields of up to 12 kОе has been established. It has been revealed that the thermopower and magnetoresistance change its sign upon heating. The experimental data are explained using a spin polaron model with the localization of polarons and formation of the electron phase-separation. The alternation of magnetoresistance in sign is attributed to the ferromagnetic orbital ordering of electrons and the negative magnetoresistance is explained by suppression of spin fluctuations in a magnetic field.
