Аннотация: Faraday rotation (FR) spectral, field, and temperature dependencies in oxide glasses with small additions of paramagnetic elements are investigated. Formation of ferrite nanoparticles in amorphous glass matrices is revealed by X-ray diffraction. Particles have crystal structure similar to spinel structure, their dimensions are about 10-24 nm. The FR field dependencies are typical for ferrimagnetic or superparamagnetic substances depending on particle size. Strong FR increase at the samples cooling (more than twice for some samples) in the temperature interval 105-273 K is observed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The magnetic and resonance properties of CoNi(P) alloys, synthesized by chemical deposition as films on single crystal silicon substrates and as filaments in linear pores of porous silicon substrates, were studied by magnetization and ferromagnetic resonance measurements. It is established that CoNi(P) alloys of the same composition but different morphologies occur in states characterized by different degrees of nonequilibrium, which is manifested by different modes of the magnetization approach to saturation. Аннотация: The translational and orientation order of arg-cysteamine molecules chemiabsorbed on the Au(111) crystal surface is considered. Couplings between carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen atoms of the n-alkanethiols are approximated by the Lennard-Jones potential. Moreover, hydrogen bonds between oxygen and nitrogen and dipole-dipole interactions of the dipole moments of different atomic groups are taken into account. It is found that molecules are arranged in a 2x2 lattice and have the total symmetry C(6)xZ(2). The critical temperature of the phase transition to the tilted state T-c1, which breaks the symmetry C-6, is estimated to be extremely high. The spontaneous breakdown of the remaining symmetry Z(2) leads to the twisted state of the molecules and has the critical temperature T-c2=340 K. (C) 2004 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: The films of nanocrystalline Fe-Ni alloys obtained by various methods in the permalloy composition range (similar to 20 at. % Fe) were studied by the method of spin-wave resonance (SWR) spectroscopy. The effective SW exchange stiffness eta (eff) exhibits a characteristic dependence on the spin wavelength, which is indicative of the magnetization fluctuations in these films with a correlation radius of 12-20 nm. This is indirect evidence of the microphase separation in these nanocrystalline alloys and provides an estimate of the characteristic spatial size of an inhomogeneity in the atomic ratio X-Fe/X-Ni . Аннотация: An anomalous temperature dependence of magnetoresistance (MR) of Co/Cu multilayer films with a similar to 3 Angstrom thick magnetic layer has been established experimentally. The temperature of the MR maximum T-max is shown to coincide with the Neel temperature. The variation of T-max with the Cu layer thickness follows an oscillatory pattern. Аннотация: Characteristics of random magnetic anisotropy in ferromagnetic films of amorphous Co90P10 and nanocrystalline Ni75C25 , Fe80B4C16 , and Co80C20 alloys and also in multilayer films [Co93P7(x)/Pd(14 Angstrom)](20) and [Co90P10(x)/Pd(14 Angstrom)](20) obtained by various technological procedures were studied experimentally. It was found that the spatial dimensionality (d) of the system of ferromagnetically coupled grains (2R(c)) in the materials under study determined the exponent in the power dependence of the approach of magnetization to saturation in the region of fields H 2A / MRc2. The dependence DeltaM similar to H-1/2 was observed for nanocrystalline and amorphous films with a three-dimensional grain arrangement. The approach to saturation in multilayer films with a two-dimensional grain arrangement in an individual magnetic layer follows the law DeltaM similar to H-1. The main micromagnetic characteristics of random anisotropy, such as the ferromagnetic correlation radius R-f and the average anisotropy [K] of a ferromagnetic domain with a size of 2R(f) , were determined for multilayer Co/Pd films. Correlation was found between the coercive field and these characteristics of random anisotropy. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The transport properties of a novel foamed superconductor Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox have been studied. As the analysis of resistive transitions in a magnetic field shows, the dissipation follows a thermally activated flux creep model with the temperature- independent pinning potential in S-N-S-type Josephson junctions.

Аннотация: The films of a polymer-dispersed nematic liquid crystal doped with an ionic surfactant were studied. The surface-anchoring modification effect caused by the local increase in the concentration of surface-active ions was observed at the polymer-liquid crystal interface under the action of an electric field. The modification of the boundary conditions leads to the transformation of the orientational structure of the nematic droplets and, as a result, to an appreciable change in their texture patterns and light-scattering efficiency at the interfaces. The monopolar director configurations (normal and curved) arising in the process of orientational structure transformations are considered and their typical textures are demonstrated. The possibility that the monopolar structure can be formed is theoretically substantiated by the computer simulation of the director field in a nematic droplet with the boundary conditions corresponding to the experiment.

Аннотация: It was found that the effect of the ionic modification of anchoring in liquid-crystal droplets can be implemented in the inverse regime. Droplets of 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl nematic doped with ionic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide surfactant were dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol and investigated. In the initial state, nematic droplets have a radial structure with homogeneous homeotropic anchoring typical of the surfactant used. In the presence of a de electric field, the boundary conditions become tangential in the surface area left by the cations. That results in the transformation of an orientational structure following by various scenarios. For the new states of nematic droplets, the distribution of the director field was analyzed and the corresponding textural patterns were numerically calculated.
