Аннотация: The X-ray diffraction, Mossbauer, calorimetric, and magnetic characteristics of zirconolite GdFeTi2O7 have been measured to determine the ground magnetic state. A kink dependent on the magnetic prehistory of the sample has been revealed in the temperature dependence of the magnetic moment at T = 3 K. Mossbauer spectroscopy has confirmed the nonequivalence of the iron ion positions in GdFeTi2O7. The experimental data obtained allow the conclusion on the formation of a spin glass state with the freezing temperature T (f) = 3 K in the GdFeTi2O7 compound.

Аннотация: The electrical properties and thermopower of solid solutions Yb x Mn1 − x S with substitution concentrations 0 x ≤ 0.2 have been studied in the temperature range of 77–1050 K. It has been found that the electrical conductivity has a semiconducting character, and the thermopower changes its sign from positive to negative as the substitution concentration in Yb x Mn1 − x S increases. It has been established that the activation energy decreases with increasing ytterbium concentration. The model of impurity donor 4f states satisfactorily agrees with the data on the electrical resistivity and the thermopower.

Аннотация: Variable-valence TmxMn1–xS (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.15) compounds have been synthesized and their structural, electrical, and thermoelectrical properties have been studied in the temperature range of 80–1100 K. The regions of existence of solid solutions of sulfides TmxMn1–xS with the NaCl-type fcc lattice have been determined. It has been found that, as thulium ions are substituted for manganese cations, the electrical resistivity increases, and the lattice parameter increases more sharply than that corresponding to the Vegard’s law. The study of the temperature dependences of the thermopower coefficient has revealed that the current carrier sign is retained to 500 K for all the substitution concentrations, and the charge carrier type changes from the hole type to the electron type with variations in the temperature. The experimental data have been explained in terms of the exciton model.

Аннотация: A coordinated investigation of the magnetic and electrical properties of polycrystalline cobalt oxide compounds CdCoO3, Gd0.9Ba0.1CoO3, and Gd0.9Sr0.1CoO3 is carried out. Undoped GdCoO3 reveals a low conductivity; a magnetic moment of 7.4 mu(B) per molecule, which is less than the theoretical value for the Gd3+ ion; and an asymptotic Curie temperature of -6 K. Doping GdCoO3 with barium and strontium to substitution of 10 at. % Gd brings about an increase in the conductivity and magnetic transitions at T = 300 K for Gd0.9Ba0.1CoO3 and T = 170 K for Gd0.9Sr0.1CoO3. The magnetization anomalies imply the formation of magnetic clusters. The behavior of the electrical conductivity at high temperatures suggests a variable activation energy. At low temperatures, Mott hopping conduction sets in.

Аннотация: A study is reported of the structural, magnetic, and magneto-optic properties of Mn/Dy/Bi films obtained by multilayer technology. The maximum Kerr rotation angle in such films is shown to be theta(k) = 2.25 degrees. Possible reasons for such a large Kerr effect enhancement are considered, namely, an increase in the 6p - 3d transition probability caused by symmetry distortion, polarization of the Bi6p band, and a change in the density of states near the Fermi level. The latter reason has been analyzed by simulating the electronic structure of Mn/Dy/Bi through superposition of Dy levels on the MnBi band structure. This approach has revealed possible additional transitions which may be induced by the presence of a Dy buffer and could contribute to the Kerr magneto-optic effect. Аннотация: The effect of electron doping on the magnetoelectric and magnetoresistivity properties of cation-substituted antiferromagnetic CexMn1-xS (x ≤ 0.05) semiconductors at temperatures of 77-500 K in magnetic fields of up to 10 kOe was investigated. For all the compositions shifts of the temperature of the dielectric loss maximum toward higher temperature (80-500 K) with increasing magnetic field up to 10 kOe are found. The current dependence of magnetoresistance from the I-V characteristic measured in a magnetic field was established. The increase of the magnetoresistive effect with increase of the cerium ions concentration in the CexMn1-xS is found. The type of current carriers was determined on the basis of the Hall coefficient measurement. For explanation of experimental data the model of charge-orbital ordering, including orbital glass is used.

Аннотация: The X-ray diffraction, magnetization and electrical conductivity measurements for Gd(0.9)A(0.1)CoO(3-delta) (A = Ba, Sr) have been made. The complicated magnetic behavior, including the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transitions, was found for Ba- and Sr-doped samples. The gradual insulator-metal transitions were observed in a wide temperature range T = 600-800 K.
