Аннотация: We have successfully synthesized ferromagnetic Fe-In2O 3 nanocomposite thin films for the first time using the thermite reaction Fe2O3 + In = In2O3 + Fe. The initial In/Fe2O3 bilayers were obtained by the deposition of In layers on α-Fe2O3 films. The reaction occurs in a self-propagating mode in a homogeneous thermal film plane field at heating rates above 20 K/s and at temperatures above initiation temperature T[[d]]in[[/d]] ~ 180 °C. At heating rates lower than 20 K/s the mixing of the In and Fe2O3 layers occurs across the whole In/Fe2O3 interface and the synthesis of the ferromagnetic α-Fe phase starts above the initiation temperature T[[d]]in[[/d]] = 180 °C. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and magnetic measurements were used for phase identification and microstructure observation of the synthesized Fe-In2O3 samples. The reaction products contain (1 1 0) textured α-Fe nanocrystals with a diameter around 100 nm and surrounded by an In2O3 matrix. These results enable new efficient low-temperature methods for synthesizing ferromagnetic nanocomposite films containing ferromagnetic nanoclusters embedded in transparent conducting oxides. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Аннотация: We have prepared thin indium oxide films by the autowave oxidation reaction. Measurements of temperature dependence of resistivity, Hall carrier concentration and Hall mobility have been conducted in the temperature range 5-272 K. Before ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, the indium oxide film had a semiconductor-like temperature dependence of resistivity. and the ratio of rho (5 K)/rho(272 K) was very limited (similar to 1.2). It was found that after UV irradiation of the In2O3 film, the metal-semiconductor transition (MST) was observed at similar to 100 K. To show that this MST is reversible and repeatable, two full cycles of 'absence of MST-presence of MST' have been done using UV irradiation (photoreduction) as the induced mechanism and exposure to an oxygen environment as the reversible mechanism, respectively. MST in transparent conducting oxide (TCO) is possibly associated with the undoped structure of metal oxide, which has some disorder of oxygen vacancies. It was suggested that reversible UV induced metal-semiconductor transition would occur in other TCOs.

Аннотация: A tetragonal phase Sr0.8Gd0.2CoO3−δ with ordered Gd3+/Sr2+ ions and oxygen vacancy sites is found to be about five times less active in the reaction of methane combustion than a quenched cubic perovskite phase with randomly distributed (disordered) Gd3+/Sr2+ ions over the A-sites of the crystal lattice.

Аннотация: A new possibility of changing the activity and selectivity of perovskite catalysts in the oxidative conversion of methane was demonstrated using the Sr x Gd1–x CoO3–δ (0.5 < x < 0.9) compounds as an example. It was established that, at the same chemical composition, the disordering of Sr2+/Gd3+ ions over the A positions of the crystal structure led to a significant increase in activity in the deep oxidation reaction of CH4, as compared with the samples with an ordered distribution of cations.

Аннотация: Acetylacetonates of platinum group metals (M(acac)n, acac= CH3COCHCOCH3,n - oxidation state of metal) are the most suitable precursors for use in highly effective MOCVD (metal-organic chemical vapor deposition) processes because of their thermal properties, low price of initial ligand and accessible synthesis methods. In this study we have developed a simple, scalable inexpensive, MOCVD-like approach to the deposition of Pt and Pd nanoparticle dispersions on powder detonation nanodiamonds (DND) using combustion in air of powder mixtures of DND with Pt and Pd acetylacetonates. This one-step process requires no specialized apparatus, and is conducted at mild temperatures (180°C – 250°C). The substrate surface of DND initiates chemical thermal destruction of precursor and deposition of nanoparticle networks composed of constituent particles. DND-supported Pd and Pt nanoparticles with their loading being from 10 and 5wt. % were obtained the average of particle size 20-25 nm and 7-10nm decreases with decreasing the metal loading. For additional purification and disaggregation of the commercial detonation-synthesized nanodiamond (DNDcomm) the method of annealing of the powder mixtures DNDcomm with Na(acac) have been used. The purified diamond nanoparticulates (DND), as well as DNDcomm, Pt/DND and Pd/DND, were subjected to physicochemical characterizations, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis.

Аннотация: Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) in Al/Ni, Al/Fe, and Al/Co bilayer thin films is investigated. It is established that SHS is achieved in thin films at initiation temperatures 300-350 degrees lower than in powders. The mechanism of SHS in thin films is similar to the process of explosive crystallization. It is shown that at the initial stage solid-phase reactions arising on the contact surface of condensate films can be self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. Аннотация: The phase structure, structural parameters, and basic magnetic characteristics of BaFe12O19 hexaferrites prepared by the zol-gel combustion method with subsequent annealing at a temperature of 850°С for 6 h are investigated. The influence of the organic fuel type on the properties of synthesized materials is analyzed. Values of the saturation magnetization and the anisotropy field are determined. It is established that they depend on the organic fuel type. It is shown that powders synthesized with citric acid used as a fuel have the largest particle sizes and the highest saturation magnetization.

Аннотация: Phase composition, structure parameters, morphology and basic magnetic characteristics – the specific saturation magnetization values and the magnetic anisotropy fields of the nanostructured BaFe12O19 powders prepared by the sol-gel combustion with the following annealing at 850°С for six hours are investigated. As organic fuels the following materials are used: carbamide (CON2H4), sucrose (C12H22O11), glycine (C2H5NO2) and citric acid (C6H8O7). The influences of the type of the organic fuels on the properties of synthesized materials are analysed. It is shown that in the powders obtained the distribution of particles on the size, the values of saturation magnetizations and the anisotropy fields depend on the fuel type. The sample synthesized using carbamide has the smallest content of the target phase BaFe12O19, the widest particle size distribution and the lowest value of the saturation magnetization in comparison with the other samples. The narrowest distribution of the particles on the size and the highest value of the specific saturation magnetization are observed in the material synthesized with the use of citric acid as an organic fuel. A comparison of the experimental hysteresis loops with the calculated magnetization curves is made. It is shown that the paraprocess plays a significant role in the magnetization processes of the synthesized materials (χpara. ≈ 0.125*10−3 cm3/g). A technique for determining the values of the anisotropy fields and the magnetomechanical ratios from experiments on FMR is also described. Calculations of the magnetization curve and the ferromagnetic resonance line of hexaferrites powders with uniaxial anisotropy were carried out in the independent grains approach.

Аннотация: The nanostructured spinel ferrites with complex stoichiometry are an important family of the materials in a number of applications, especially in electronics through their good electrical and magnetic properties. In the framework of this study, a set of mixed cobalt and nickel ferrites was prepared with the sol–gel self-combustion route. The structural and morphological features of particles were studied with X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) techniques. The prepared particles show a crystalline nature with a monotonic distribution of the elements and particles size distribution in the range of 17–29 nm. The obtained particles demonstrate good magnetic properties with tunable saturation magnetization and magnetic anisotropy, i.e., coercivity depending on chemical composition.
