Аннотация: Nanoclusters and nanocrystals of the room temperature magnetic spinel CuCr2S4 synthesized using a facile solution-based method have been examined by transmission electron microscopy, magnetic measurements, and magnetic resonance over a wide frequency range 9.6–80 GHz and at temperatures down to 4.2 K. Decreasing of the resonance field and broadening of the resonance lines below 50 K for both samples are due to the freezing of magnetic moments of nanocubes and nanocrystalline particles constituting nanoclusters. The effective fields of averaged magnetic anisotropy (HA)≌2.4 kOe are similar for both nanopowder samples as estimated from resonance measurements at T = 4.2 K. An additional blocking temperature T b ≅ 300 K appears in nanoclusters due to freezing of the magnetic moment of the entire cluster as a whole. Below this blocking temperature, the magnetic dipolar field acting in boundary areas of interacting constituent nanocrystals is responsible for the additional low-field resonance line observed in the resonance spectra of nanoclusters at X-band.

Аннотация: The atomic and electronic structures, mechanical properties and potential barriers of formation of a set of meso–meso β–β fused porphyrin/metalloporphyrin nanopages, nanotapes, nanotubes and 2D nanofabrics were studied by GGA LC-DFT technique using cluster and PBC models. The porphyrin pages of the nanoclusters are connected with each other by graphene fragments formed by meso–meso β–β links. Fusion of all the edges of six porphyrin/metalloporphyrin units produces a novel ~ 1 nm sized molecule of cubic symmetry with a hollow cage inside. It was found that all studied nanoclusters are metastable with formation energies 0.36–7.57 kcal/mol per atom. Under applied mechanical stress, the nanoclusters exhibit superelastic and ultrastrong properties with binding graphene fragments being the weakest links for mechanical rupture. Depending on the spin-dependent reaction pathways, the hollow caged nanoclusters exhibit almost zero or low potential energy barriers (1–10 kcal/mol) during the initial stages of self-assembly. All nanoclusters exibit the main features of the electronic structures of the parent porphyrins, in particular the nature of HOMO/LUMO states and the relative energetic positions of the metal d states. The induced curvature of the hollow cage nanoclusters leads to admixture of more than 2% of the dπ⊥ states to the dσ energy region and formation of vacant superatomic molecular orbitals of d character in cubic ligand field. The Fe-derived hollow-caged nanoclusters reveal extremely high spin states with small energy differences between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic configurations, which can be utilized for quantum holonomic computations.

Аннотация: Atomic and electronic structures of adsorbed nickel and vanadium atoms and nanoclusters (Ni-n and V-n, n = 1-10) on hexagonal h-BN and BC3 lattices were studied using DFT PBE/PBC/PW (Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof potential of density functional theory/periodic boundary conditions/plane wave basis set) technique. For the sake of comparison the structure and properties of the same nanoclusters deposited on pristine graphene were calculated as well. It was found that for all types of supports an increase of n from 1 to 10 leaded to decrease of coordination types from eta(6) to eta(2) and eta(1). The h-BN- and BC3-based nanocomposites were characterized by high (up to 18 mu for Ni10/BC3) magnetic moments of the nanoclusters and featured by positive binding energies. The graphene-based nanocomposites revealed energetic stability and, in general, lower magnetic moments per unit cell. The direct potential energy barriers for migration of Ni eta(2)/eta(2) and eta(6)/eta(6) types of dimers on graphene were low (10.9-28.9 kJ/mol) with high reverse barriers for eta(6)/eta(6) dimers, which favored dynamically equilibrated Ni clusterization on graphene. Аннотация: The magnetic and magneto-optical properties of ion-synthesized cobalt nanoparticles in the amorphous silicon oxide matrix are investigated as a function of the implantation dose. The analysis of the field dependences of the magnetization and the magneto-optical Faraday and Kerr effects demonstrates that, as the ion implantation dose increases, the superparamagnetic behavior of an ensemble of cobalt nanoparticles at room temperature gives way to a ferromagnetic response with the anisotropy characteristic of a thin magnetic film. The magnetization curves for the superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic ensembles of cobalt nanoparticles are simulated to determine their average sizes and the filling density in the irradiated layer of the silicon dioxide matrix. It is revealed that the spectral dependences of the Faraday and Kerr effects for ion-synthesized cobalt nanoparticles differ substantially from those for continuous cobalt films due to the localized excitations of free electrons in the nanoparticles.

Аннотация: Mn5Ge3 films are promising materials for spintronic applications due to their high spin polarization and a Curie temperature above room temperature. However, non-magnetic elements such as oxygen, carbon and nitrogen may unpredictably change the structural and magnetic properties of Mn5Ge3 films. Here, we use the solid-state reaction between Mn and GeO thin films to describe the synthesis and the structural and magnetic characterization of Mn5Ge3(Mn5Ge3Oy)-GeO2(GeOx) nanocomposite materials. Our results show that the synthesis of these nanocomposites starts at 180°С when the GeO decomposes into elemental germanium and oxygen and the resulting Ge atoms immediately migrate into the Mn layer to form ferromagnetic Mn5Ge3 nanoclusters. At the same time the oxygen atoms take part in the synthesis of GeOx and GeO2 oxides and also migrate into the Mn5Ge3 lattice to form Mn5Ge3Oy Nowotny nanoclusters. Magnetic analysis assumes the general nature of the Curie temperature increase in carbon-doped Mn5Ge3Cx and Mn5Ge3Oy films. Our findings prove that not only carbon, but oxygen may contribute to the increase of the saturation magnetization and Curie temperature of Mn5Ge3-based nanostructures.

Аннотация: A silicon oxide quantum dots (Si-O QDs) and Ag nanoclusters hybrid nanosensing probe with dual-emission and small nanocrystals that acts as an “off-on” ratio fluorescent probe for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection was developed. The probe was used to measure the H2O2 concentration generated by mitochondria in vitro via recording the I455/I680 fluorescence ratio. Furthermore, this hybrid probe was applied to monitor the wound-induced H2O2 in lettuce leaf, and realized the visualized fluorescence qualitative detection H2O2 in vivo via laser scanning confocal microscope. The working mechanism of the probe is also investigated. Inner filter effect (IFE) estimation, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images were applied to study the quenching mechanism and recovering reason of Si-O QDs fluorescence. The results show that the blue fluorescence of Si-O QDs can be quenched by Ag NCs via the IFE and fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect. After adding H2O2, the surface groups of Ag NCs was changed and the IFE and FRET effects between the Si-O QDs and Ag NCs are disabled, thus the quenched Si-O QDs luminescence can be regularly recovered.

Аннотация: In this study, particles of synthetic undoped diamond (DN) obtained via the high pressure – high temperature method were coated with a nickel shell using metallic nickel plasma in a two-jet plasma generator with gas vortex and magnetic flux stabilization. Through the use of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we observed the formation of a nickel diamond composite with a core-shell structure, where DN serves as the core and Ni nanoclusters form the shell (DN@Ni). The results of voltammetric analysis indicated that DN@Ni, when deposited on a graphite electrode, exhibited significant electrocatalytic activity in the oxidation of methanol and paracetamol in an alkaline electrolyte.
