    Morphological and compositional study at the Si/Fe interface of (Fe/Si) multilayer / L. Badia-Romano [et al.] // SPIN. - 2014. - Vol. 4, № 1. - P. 1440002DOI 10.1142/S2010324714400025

Fe-Si interlayer -- magnetic nanostructures -- Fe silicides -- reflectivity -- conversion electron Möossbauer spectroscopy
Аннотация: Diffusion and reaction of elements at the interfaces of nanostructured systems play an important role in controlling their physical and chemical properties for subsequent applications. (Fe/Si) nanolayers were prepared by thermal evaporation under ultrahigh vacuum onto a Si(100) substrate. A morphological characterization of these films was performed by combination of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and X-ray reflectivity (XRR). The compositional depth profile of the (Fe/Si) structures was obtained by angle resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ARXPS) and hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES). Moreover, determination of the stable phases formed at the Si on Fe interfaces was performed using conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Si/Fe interface thickness and roughness were determined to be 1.4 nm and 0.6 nm, respectively. A large fraction of the interface is composed of c-Fe1-xSi paramagnetic phase, though a minoritary ferromagnetic Fe rich silicide phase is also present.

Аннотация: Three-wave mixing of ordinary and backward electromagnetic waves in a pulsed regime is investigated in the metamaterials that enable the coexistence and phase-matching of such waves. It is shown that the opposite direction of phase velocity and energy flux in backward waves gives rise to extraordinary transient processes due to greatly enhanced optical parametric amplification and frequency up- and down-shifting nonlinear reflectivity. The differences are illustrated through comparison with the counterparts in ordinary, co-propagating settings. © 2016 Optical Society of America.

Flexible film broadband absorption -- Diamond-graphite mixture -- Polyethylene -- Reflectivity -- Transmittance
Аннотация: Flexible film broadband absorber based on diamond-graphite mixture and polyethylene was fabricated by hot pressing. The film thickness of the absorber was 90 μm. We have measured angular reflectivity, diffusional reflectivity and transmittance in the range 85–8000 cm−1 (117–1.25 μm) in order to determine the absorption. It was shown that room temperature pressing of mesh print with 250 μm step significantly reduces reflectivity of the absorber. The absorption was over 0.85 in the range 85–320 cm−1 (117–31.25 μm) and >0.98 in the range 320–8000 cm−1 (31.25–1.25 μm). We believe that the designed and manufactured absorber might become a promising material for optical devices where high broadband absorption and flexibility are required.

phonons -- infrared reflectivity -- negative thermal expansion -- optical properties
Аннотация: Simple cubic 'open' perovskite ScF3 stands out among trifluoride materials in its large, isotropic negative thermal expansion (NTE), but also its proximity of its zero-temperature state to a structural phase transition. Here we report a temperature- and frequency-dependent lattice dynamical study of Brillouin zone center lattice excitations of single crystals of ScF3 using infrared reflectivity measurements. In addition to quantifying the mode strengths and energies in single crystals of this interesting material, we also find strong evidence for multiphonon absorption processes which excite the zone-edge incipient soft modes associated with NTE and the structural quantum phase transition. In this way, we identify an optically-allowed pathway to excite soft modes provides a means to athermally populate modes associated with NTE in ScF3.

Аннотация: We report on a model of an organic solar cell in which a photosensitive layer doped with plasmon nanoparticles acts as not only an absorbing element but also a mirror involved in the formation of the Tamm plasmon polariton. It is shown that such solar cells can be fabricated without metal contacts, thus avoiding undesired losses in the system. Methods for an additional increase in the integral absorption by applying metal or dielectric mirrors to the lower boundary of the photonic crystal are proposed. It has been found that the integral absorption in the active layer can be increased by15%compared to classical optimized planar solar cells.
