Аннотация: The effect of the lattice deformation on potential barriers for the motion of a lithium atom in crystalline silicon has been studied through ab initio density functional calculations. A new universal method of calculating the diffusion coefficient of an admixture in amorphous solid media through the activation mechanism has been proposed on the basis of these data. The method is based on the calculation of the statistical distribution of potential barriers for the motion of an admixture atom between minima depending on the position of neighboring atoms. First, the amorphous structure, which is generated by annealing from the crystalline structure with vacancies, has been simulated. Then, the statistical distribution of the potential barriers in the amorphous structure for various local environments of the admixture atoms has been calculated by means of linear regression with the parameters determined for barriers in crystalline silicon subjected to different deformations. The diffusion coefficient of the admixture has been calculated from this distribution by using the Arrhenius formula. This method has been tested by the example of crystalline and amorphous silicon with admixture of lithium atoms. The method demonstrates that the diffusion of lithium in amorphous silicon is much faster than that in crystalline silicon; this relation is confirmed experimentally.

Аннотация: Double molybdate scheelite-type solid-solution phosphors Li1−xAgxLu1−y(MoO4)2:yEu3+ were synthesized by the solid state reaction method, and their crystal structures and luminescence properties were investigated in detail. The composition modulation and structural evolution of this series of samples were studied and the selected AgEu(MoO4)2, AgLu(MoO4)2, LiLu(MoO4)2 and LiEu(MoO4)2 phases were analyzed based on the Rietveld refinement. Depending on the variation of the Li/Ag ratio in Li1−xAgxLu1−y(MoO4)2:yEu3+ phosphors, the difference in the luminescence properties of Li1−xAgxLu1−y(MoO4)2:yEu3+ phosphors was ascribed to two factors, one reason could be assigned to the coupling effect and the nonradiative transition between the energy levels of LixAg1−xLu(MoO4)2 matrices and the activator Eu3+, another could be due to the near ultraviolet energy absorption and transmission efficiency between the charge-transfer (CT) band of O2−–Mo6+ and the 4f → 4f emissive transitions of Eu3+. The ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectra (UV-vis DRS) and Raman spectra analysis were also used to verify the above mechanism.

Аннотация: An nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging approach for studying flocculant-induced asphaltene precipitation processes is introduced in this report. Unlike commonly accepted techniques, which primarily measure aggregation processes on the submicron scale (the level of asphaltene molecules and their aggregates), NMR imaging demonstrates the capability to obtain new useful information about bulk system behavior on the macro scale. To reveal the capabilities of the method, the model toluene-asphaltene system and two samples of natural crude oils with different chemical composition and physical properties (such as asphaltene content and density) were employed for experiments. The process of colloidal suspension formation and two different patterns of its evolution were observed depending on both the asphaltene content and the flocculant concentration. In the first pattern, the flocculant-induced precipitation leads to the slow uniform compacting of the suspension and descent of the sedimentation front, whereas the second pattern is characterized by sediment accumulation and the upwards drift of the front. It was found that the behavior of the precipitated asphaltenes in the model system correlates well with those observed in natural crude oils. The results achieved in this work are in agreement with the data obtained previously via other techniques. Thus, NMR imaging proved to be an efficient method for probing flocculant-induced precipitation in crude oils.

Аннотация: Creation of electrons or excitons by external fields in a system with initially statistically independent unrelaxed vibrational modes leads to an initial condition term. The contribution of this term in the time convolution generalized master-equation approach is studied in the second order of the perturbation theory in path-integral formalism. The developed approach, applied for the analysis of dynamics in the photosynthetic reaction center, exhibits the key role of the initial condition terms at the primary stage of electron transfer.

Аннотация: Neutron diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy have been used to examine the connections between long-and short-range magnetic order in the rare-earth iron ferroborate YFe3(BO3)(4). We establish the presence of short-range magnetic order in the pseudo-one-dimensional Fe-spin chains of the FeO6 octahedra while the ferroborates are in their (long-range) paramagnetic phase. The short-range order exists at temperatures several times the Neel temperature. In addition, we observe thermal hysteresis of the short-range ordered Fe spins. The observed Fe-spin dynamics are suggestive of the presence of solitons within the domains that form in the Fe-spin chains.

Аннотация: We report As-75 nuclear magnetic resonance measurements of the spin-lattice relaxation in the superconducting (SC) state of LaFeAsO0.9F0.1 and As-deficient LaFeAs1-delta O0.9F0.1. The temperature behavior of 1/T-1 below T-c changes drastically from a T-3 dependence for LaFeAsO0.9F0.1 to a T-5 dependence for the As-deficient sample. These results, together with the previously reported unexpected increase in Tc and the slope of the upper critical field near Tc for the As-deficient sample, are discussed in terms of nonuniversal SC gaps in Fe pnictides and the effect of As deficiency as an exotic case where nonmagnetic "smart" impurities even stabilize an s(+/-)-wave superconductor or within a scenario of a disorder-driven change to s(++) superconductivity.

Аннотация: We investigate generating functions for equipped trees composed of double bonds of two sorts on a hypercubic lattice of dimension d with built-in fragments. Rules for constructing these clusters are chosen to ensure the estimate for coefficients of power series in time for the longitudinal and transverse autocorrelation functions of the spin system with axially symmetric interaction. We derive a system of two equations for the tree-generating functions and an equation for the generating functions of chains leading from the root to a fragment in a tree using the Bethe approximation and under the condition that mainly bonds of one sort are taken into account. For the face-centered hypercubic lattice, we find the First terms of the 1/d expansion for the coordinate of the singular point of the generating function in both the anisotropic and the isotropic cases taking fragments in the forms of a triangle from four bonds and a four-fold bound pair into account. The obtained result is written in terms of ratios of lattice sums and is generalized to nuclear spin systems with dipole-dipole interaction. The theoretical value of the singular-point coordinate agrees well with the experimental value calculated from the tail of the absorption spectrum of the nuclear magnetic resonance in a barium fluoride monocrystal.

Аннотация: The frequency dependences of the longitudinal and transverse permittivities of oriented nematic liquid crystals belonging to the alkylcyanobiphenyl group nCB (n = 5-8) are measured in the relaxation region in the meter and decimeter wavelength ranges. It is established that the dispersion of the longitudinal permittivity is well approximated by the sum of two Debye processes with different relaxation times. The frequency dependence of the transverse permittivity is represented by the dispersion relation with a continuous distribution of relaxation times in a specified time range. It is demonstrated that, in the high-frequency range (f 200 MHz), in which the dielectric spectra exhibit a number of weakly pronounced dispersion features, the total dispersion of the permittivity is adequately described by the sum of relaxation and resonance processes. Аннотация: The magnetic resonance measurements show that the mixed two-phase state takes place in the Eu0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystal. The coexistence of the magnetic phases is observed in vicinity of the magnetic phase transition, where the sample exhibits the effect of the CMR. The frequency-field dependencies of the spectra allow to conclude that these phases are paramagnetic and ferromagnetic ones. Moreover, the study of the frequency dependencies shows the sensitivity of the mixed-phase state to the external magnetic field. This suggests that the scenario of the phase separation is realized in this case and the mixed two-phase state is not related to simple chemical inhomogeneity. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Аннотация: Two phases, paramagnetic and ferromagnetic, were shown by the magnetic resonance method to coexist below the temperature T-C in La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystals exhibiting colossal magnetoresistance. The magnetic resonance spectra were studied in the frequency range 10-78 GHz. The specific features in the behavior of the spectral parameters were observed to be the strongest at the temperatures corresponding to the maximum magnetoresistance in the crystals. The concentration ratios of the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases in the samples were found to be sensitive to variations in temperature and external magnetic field. This behavior suggests realization of the electronic phase separation mechanism in the system under study. (C) 2002 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
