Аннотация: Despite the important role of metal xanthates in a number of industrial processes and emerging applications, no attempts have been made to prepare the metal xanthate nanoparticles and to study colloidal solutions of insoluble heavy metal xanthates. Here, we examined the formation of colloidal copper xanthate particles during the reactions of aqueous solutions of cupric sulfate and various potassium xanthates, which occur in flotation and water treatment slurries and can be used to manufacture nanoparticles for materials science (e.g., as precursors for copper sulfide nanoparticles and biomedicine). The products were characterized using UV-vis absorption, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential measurements, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES). Colloidal copper xanthates with compositions of ROCSSCu (R = ethyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, and amyl groups), disordered structures and average diameters of 20–80 nm easily formed and aggregated and were stable for at least several hours, especially if excessive xanthate was used. The hydrodynamic diameters of the nanoparticles were smaller at lower temperatures. Dixanthogens, which were produced in the reactions along with ROCSSCu, seemed to promote nanoparticle aggregation and precipitated with the copper xanthate, affecting their thermal decomposition. The TEM micrographs and S K- and Cu K-edge XANES spectra revealed core/shell particle morphologies, likely with Cu(I) bonded to four S atoms in the core and reduced copper coordination in the shell.

Аннотация: X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra have been measured at the Со K-edge and Gd L3-edge in GdCoO3 and Gd0.4Sr0.6CoO2.85 cobaltites. The effect of Sr substitution on the crystal structure and electronic and magnetic states of Co3+ ions in a Gd0.4Sr0.6CoO2.85 single crystal has been analyzed. The XANES measurements at the Co K-edge have not showed a noticeable shift of the absorption edge with an increase in the concentration of Sr. This indicates that the effective valence of cobalt does not change. An increase in the intensity of absorption at the Gd L3-edge is due to an increase in the degree of hybridization of the Gd(5d) and O(2p) states. The effect of hole doping on the magnetic properties results in the appearance of the ferromagnetic component and in a significant increase in the magnetic moment.

Аннотация: Theoretical XAFS spectra of highly correlated copper oxides have been presented as a product of a single-electron part obtained by the SCF X alpha- SW method, and a multi-electron part obtained by the multi-band multi-electron p-d model. The main line of CuK-spectrum of La2CuO4 was aligned to the Cud(10) (L) under bar configuration and the single satellite line was aligned to the Cud(9). Comparison of the theoretical data with the experimental ones shows that the ground state of the two-holes in the CuO4 doped cell is triplet. The last conclusion has been confirmed by analysis of CuL2,3-spectra of two-hole impurity states of doped CuO4 cell. Another interesting future of CuL2,3-spectra a peak 2.8 eV higher the threshold was aligned to the transitions into quasi-stationary states due to existence of a high barrier in the Cud-state potential.
