Аннотация: The crystal structures of cesium 2-thiobarbiturate C4H3CsN2O2S (I) and rubidium 2-thiobarbiturate C4H3N2O2RbS (II) (C4H4N2O2S is 2-thiobarbituric acid, H2TBA) have been determined. Isostructural crystals are monoclinic; a = 7.9609(3) Å,b = 11.8474(3) Å, c = 7.7317(2) Å, β = 101.285(3)°, V = 715.13(4) Å3, space group C2/m, Z = 4 for I and a = 7.6369(2) Å, b = 11.7690(3) Å, c = 7.5568(2) Å, β = 100.212(1)°, V = 668.44(3) Å3, space group C2/m, Z = 4 for II. Each metal ion in complexes I and II is bonded to four oxygen atoms and two sulfur atoms at the vertices of a six-vertex polyhedron. N-H…O hydrogen bonds link HTBA-ions into chains. The structure is also stabilized by the “head-to-tail” π-π interaction of HTBA-ions.

Аннотация: Phase transition (PT) was found in Cs3Bi2I9 single crystal at T0=223 K. Optical birefringence, dielectric and elastic constants and differential scanning calorimetry have been studied. It was found that birefringence ?nc and twinning picture appeared on (001) - and (100) - plates below T0, as well as softening of elastic stiffness C44 above T0. It allows to classify the PT as proper ferroelastic one with symmetry change 6/mmm - 2/m. В© 1996 OPA (Overseas Publishers Association) Amsterdam B.V. Аннотация: Cs//2CdI//4 crystals were grown from the melt (A) and from water solution (B). Optic, dielectric, X-ray, and calorimetric investigations were carried out. Crystal A shows three phase transitions at 332. 3, 259. 6, and 183. 4 K with the following sequence of phases: commensurate orthorhombic of beta -K//2SO//4 type ( alpha //0 equals 1. 074, b//0 equals 0. 8458, c equals 1. 4852 nm) B ARR LR incommensurate B ARR LR monoclinic ferroelastic (P2//1/n) B ARR LR triclinic ferroelastic (P1 OVER BAR ). The B-crystal belongs to monoclinic symmetry (P2//1/m) and undergoes transformation into the orthorhombic phase of beta -K//2SO//4 type at 420 K.

Аннотация: The structural phase transition (PT) of elpasolite-type crystal Cs//2NaBiCl//6 is investigated by neutron scattering. At first the acoustic phonon dispersion is measured at room temperature for the high-symmetric directions DELTA , SIGMA , and LAMBDA of the Brillouin zone. The transverse rotary mode is studied for phonon wave vectors q parallel as well as perpendicular to DELTA and the dispersion shows a quasi-two-dimensional behavior of the Cl-octahedra rotation. At cooling down to the PT, this branch shows a softening along DELTA , reaching the lowest energies at the zone center. The PT, which is found to be of weakly first order, seems to be driven and triggered by the ferrorotative octahedra mode.

Аннотация: Thermal atomic vibrations in the cubic phase of Cs//2NaNdCl//6 single crystal undergoing the structural phase transition (PT) at 138 K are investigated from the data of X-ray diffraction obtained at 278, 218, and 148 K. A significant anisotropy of thermal vibrations and their deviations from harmonic behavior are found for the Cl-atoms of the structure. These atoms displace from their equilibrium positions below PT due to the tilts of the octahedral groups.

Аннотация: A study was made of the temperature dependences of the integrated intensities of the 006 and 021 x-ray reflections, deviation of the angle gamma from 90 degree , NMR of **7Li, specific heat c//p, thermal expansion, and permittivity. Moreover, the effects of hydrostatic pressure on the phase transition were studied. It was definitely established that a ferroelastic phase transition of the second kind occurs at 202. 07 degree K and this transition does not alter the number of atoms in a unit cell.

Аннотация: New ternary molybdate Cs2NaBi(MoO4)3 is synthesized in the system Na2MoO4–Cs2MoO4–Bi2(MoO4)3. The structure of Cs2NaBi(MoO4)3 of a new type is determined in noncentrosymmetric space group R3c, a=10.6435(2), c=40.9524(7) Å, V=4017.71(13) Å3, Z=12 in anisotropic approximation for all atoms taking into account racemic twinning. The structure is completely ordered, Mo atoms are tetrahedrally coordinated, Bi(1) and Bi(2) atoms are in octahedra, and Na(1) and Na(2) atoms have a distorted trigonal prismatic coordination. The Cs(1) and Cs(2) atoms are in the framework cavities with coordination numbers 12 and 10, respectively. No phase transitions were found in Cs2NaBi(MoO4)3 up to the melting point at 826 K. The compound shows an SHG signal, I2w/I2w(SiO2)=5 estimated by the powder method. The vibrational properties are evaluated by Raman spectroscopy, and 26 narrow lines are measured.

Аннотация: (T-x) phase diagram has been investigated by polarizing optic and birefringence methods, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray study. A small amount of rubidium in CsLiSO4 as well as cesium in RbLiSO4 reduces the temperature of transition into ferroelastic phase P1121/n which disappear for x?0.15 and x?0.9. The region of phase P21/c11 (c = 2c0) expands and becomes the most stable below ambient temperature for 0.9>x>0.2.

Аннотация: An X-ray study of three phase transitions (PTs) at 86, 78 and 72 K has been carried out for the trigonal modification of the Cs3Sb2I9 crystal (space group P-3m1, a = 8.460 Angstrom, c = 10.398 Angstrom). The T-c1 = 86 K PT preserves the trigonal symmetry and is associated with the doubling of the c-parameter. At T-c2 = 72 K a doubling of a and b is observed. An intermediate incommensurate phase with q(1) = 1/2c*, q(2) = (1/2 - delta)a* + 1/2c* has been detected in the temperature range of 78-72 K. The lock-in PT at 72 K has a first order character. Аннотация: The hydrates [Na2(H2O)3(Htba)2] (1) and [Na2(H2O)4(Htba)2] (2), where H2tba is 2-thiobarbituric acid, were obtained under different thermal conditions from aqueous solutions and were structurally characterized. The molecular and supramolecular structures were compared to the known structure of [Na2(H2O)5(Htba)2] (3). In polymeric 1–3, the Htba− ions are linked to Na+ through O and S forming octahedra. The decrease of the number of coordination water molecules led to an increase of the total number of bridge ligands (μ2-H2O, Htba−) and a change of the Htba− coordination. These factors induced higher distortion of the octahedra. It was assumed that hydrates, with a different number of coordinated water molecules, are more probable when the central metal has weaker bonds with O water molecules and with other ligands. The net topologies of 1–3 were compared. Thermal decomposition and IR spectra were analyzed for 1 and 2.

Аннотация: The structures of catena-[K(μ6-Hba−O,O,O,O′,O′,O″)] (I) and catena-[Cs(μ6-Hba–O,O,O′,O′,O″,O″)] (II), where Н2ba is barbituric acid C4H4N2O3, were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction. Crystallographic data: a = 14.1603 (4) Å, b = 3.68977 (9) Å, c = 10.9508 (3) Å, β = 82.226 (1)°, V = 566.90 (3) Å3, space group P21/n, Z = 4 for I; a = 14.652 (1) Å, b = 11.7275 (7) Å, c = 3.8098 (3) Å, β = 79.140 (6)°, V = 642.90 (8) Å3, space group C2/m, Z = 4 for II. The structural topologies of alkali metal complexes with barbituric acid and some its derivatives were compared. The thermal stability of complexes I and II in an air atmosphere was studied.

Аннотация: The paper describes the studies of the transformation of Cs+- and Sr2+-containing zeolite sorbents synthesized from fly ash cenospheres to crystalline mineral composition, suitable for the long-term disposal. Series of Cs+- and Sr2+-exchanged NaP1-containing sorbents were subjected to the thermochemical transformation in the temperature range 40-1100°C at atmospheric pressure in air and the progress of reaction was monitored by DSC and XRD analysis. It was shown that initial sodium zeolite undergoes two-step transformation at 736-785°C and 892-982°C forming nepheline as the principle product, with the conversion temperatures being dependant on the heating rate. The thermal treatment of Cs+-bearing zeolite sorbent led to formation of a complex multiphase system, the principal components of which were nepheline and pollucite. Increasing cesium content in the samples led to a monotonous shift of crystallization peak to the higher temperature range (1005-1006°C). A more complicated behavior was observed for Sr2+-containing samples, for which the crystallization temperature tends to increase (compared with NaP1) at lower Sr contents, but it starts decreasing parallel to the Sr2+ content at Sr2+ loadings 10 mg/g. The principal crystalline phases in Sr-NaP1 sample conversion were nepheline and Sr2+- containing feldspar, the quantity of which increased parallel to the increase of strontium content in zeolite. Apparent activation energies of thermochemical transformations were calculated and possible approaches to reduce transformation temperature are discussed and experimentally illustrated. © 2009 Materials Research Society.
